Jobs Rated Almanac: The Best and Worst Jobs - 250 in All - Ranked by More Than a Dozen Vital Factors Including Salary, Stress, Benefits and More (Jobs Rated Almanac) - book cover picture

I thought this was a very interesting and informative book. It gave me a lot of information about different jobs.
As for the upset people who rated this book low, i'm sure Les rated firemen higher than nurses in stress level because some nurses work in a low stress environment in some kind of pediatric aera, giving shots to little kids, while firemen have to be ready all the time when they are on call. And as for librarians, well, reccomending a book or showing someone to a copy of Moneyball doesn't really compare in stress to making international relations decisions or having to make a precise cut with a scalpel.

Selling the Invisible : A Field Guide to Modern Marketing - book cover picture

Having spent much of my career in the I.T. services sector, I thoroughly enjoy researching other interests and broadening my understanding of topics that can enrich my life and career. In the area of marketing services, this publication provided ample, tangible information on modern marketing and exceeded my expectations in a number of ways.First, the covers of this book are not too far apart, which is a rare find these days. Often, writers try to impart an excessive amount of irrelevant information in their writings, as though their real ambition is to write the next, great American novel. This book is different. This publication is short, concise and filled with valuable information. If you are in the business of marketing, you need this book. For anyone in the service industry, consider giving yourself an edge over your competition by reading this insightful book, and putting into action the relevant suggestions of the author.

Wow. This is quite a piece of work by King and Straub.

Black House - book cover picture

I never read the Talisman (I will be trying to do so soon - these books are long to get through), but even without that background, Black House is a simply great read. Its a nail biter and page turner and literary reference all in one text -- I'm pretty impressed that 2 authors known just for horror can coordinate to write like this. I love a good murder mystery and its plays that role too (kind of makes you wonder what goes on in places like Wisconsin, to be honest). Also, I bought the eBook version in MS Reader and found it to be very easy reading on my laptop computer. Plus the eBook has a lot of extra content about the story, the Talisman and the authors themselves if you are interested (kind of like a DVD version of a VHS - you get a little more content for your dollars). Can't wait until the TV pilot of this book comes out - you can tell its written almost like a screenplay and ready for video adaptation.

Open House for Butterflies - book cover picture

This was my most treasured book when I was a child, and I still love it today. I very happily hung off my bedpost and cried out, "All aboard for bed!" when I was reading this book. This book is an excellent book for children of all ages, and for adults who would like to smile. I can't express how happy reading this book makes me, even 30 years after I first read it. Lots of happiness and silliness and wonderful sayings to remember. And, "Lovabye is a very good word to know."

Where the Red Fern Grows - book cover picture

One day up high in the mountains a boy named Billy was begging his parents for a pair of coon dogs, but he can't get because he's low on money. He went two years collecting money. When he has the right amount of money he asks his grandfather and asks him to order the dogs. When Billy's grandfather tells where his dogs will be shipped, he finds he will to go to another town to get them, he does. He hunts with his dogs every night. His grandfather tells him about a championship hunt. Billy goes to the hunt and gets in the finals. He wins the championship hunt when he returns home his parents tell him they have saved all the money from the coon skins he got. Billy's parents are very enthusiastic about moving because now the kids will now get an education. I recommend this story because it has action and some sad parts but you'll have to read it yourself to find out really how good it is.

A thoroughly engrossing journey

Book title: The Outsider (Perennial Library)
Rating: 5/5

The Outsider (Perennial Library) - book cover picture

The Outsider is a thrilling novel that reads quickly, and memorably. Like "The Fugitive" our hero finds himself suddenly outside of both society and his own sense of identity. He is forced to recreate himself as he struggles to stay ahead of danger, only to find that his new persona liberates a charisma that thrusts him into the spotlight, threatening to betray him to his pursuers. As in the "The Grapes of Wrath", our hero is forced to confront his concept of who and how he had lived while becoming both politically and ideologically self-aware. This transformative process remains as compelling, current, and relevant today as when Wright penned the novel. This first-rate novel is given short shrift by those who enjoy genuflecting to the myth of an intellectual heritage, to which it owes no homage nor apology, above the thrilling strength of the prose itself. The Fugitive is a zesty hoot of novel full of suspenseful twists and thoughtful choices.

Review From A Forward Thinker

What Clients Love: A Field Guide to Growing Your Business - book cover picture

I don't review anything. I look forward always. But in the case of "What Clients Love" I make an exception. For me, this book would have more aptly been titled, "Past Is Prologue", for more than any other collection of thoughts, I would like this superb work to inform and precede my actions as a business person. Reading this most readable of books happily confirmed much of what I thought to be correct but with data and experience I can only hope to attain. What a gift of insight and thoughtful clarity. This may be the most useful book you ever read as a business person or as a person. Thank you, Sir Harry.

Nothing But The Truth is nothing but the best

Nothing But The Truth (Newbery Honor Book) - book cover picture

In a time when many books are cliched, dull, and done before, Nothing But The Truth stands with the precious few as a teen's book that is not only facinating, but unique and original. When Phillip Malloy is suspended for "creating a disturbance" by repeatedly humming the Star Spangled Banner, what becomes a national controversy is born. What really happened is so distorted by the media and people's own opinions, that you wonder about the things you hear on a day to day basis, from the newspaper to the gossip from your neighbor. The story is told in such a way in the book that I didn't know which side to take, and still I wonder. The ending was surprising, and forces you to see the book in an entirely different light. This book was amazing, and if you haven't read it, I can only say this; you're missing out.

The best early history of September 11th...

Inside 9-11: What Really Happened - book cover picture

This book, by the editors of the German magazine Der Spiegel, offers the best early history of the tragic events that occurred on September 11. In addition to portraying the attacks as they happened, the authors do a good job of detailing the actions of the terrorists/criminals while they were planning in Germany before they embarked on their dastardly mission. While certainly more in-depth books on September 11 will appear in the future as more details are learned and a different perspective is gained, this is the best book on the subject currently available.
