warning!: This review contains spoilers.
this is the best book in the warriors series! even better than The Darkest Hour. you have a disadvantage if you haven't read the other books before this one. Bluestar 's illness causes alot of trouble for thunderclan, so fireheart takes a bigger part in this book. Also later, Graystripe returns to the clan. Also, dogs have escaped twolegs, which gives more trouble to the clan. Anyway, YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK! OR ELSE....

Awakening the Buddha Within : Tibetan Wisdom for the Western World - book cover picture

I recommend Lama Surya Das' three books to anyone interested in Buddhism, spirituality, or the search for happiness. His background as a Jewish kid growing up in NY allows him an understanding of the Western world that even the Dalai Lama doesn't have.

His books are written in a plain-talk style instead of a textbook style.

But, most importantly, he explains how you can incorporate Buddhist practices and beliefs into your daily life without abandoning your native religion and/or converting to Buddhism.

Explain a Dan Simmons book? Fat chance but...Ever wonder what it would be like to stand on the battlefields of Troy while the battle was happening? Mr. Simmons puts you there. Ever imagine what the Gods of the ancients did to entertain themselves? Mr. Simmons makes you a "fly on the wall." Ever wonder what it would be like to make love to Helen? The "face that launched a thousand ships?" Well guess what?

Mr. Simmons has penned a fantastic flight of imagination that is simply astounding. There is so much going on in a Dan Simmons book i.e., philosophy, history, sociology, fantasy, adventure, and always entertaining sometimes hilarious dialog between characters makes the task of reviewing rather daunting and even professional reviewers can't give a Dan Simmons story justice.

Just enjoy "Illium" and be sad in the knowledge that you have to wait a while for the second volume. Damn, I hate the waiting. Hurry up Dan!

We Have a Baby - book cover picture

This book was a favorite for my granddaughter before and after her sister was born. She was 16-18 months old at the time and didn't want to have any other story read to her. She loved the photos and would imitate "loving" the baby and would kiss the baby's picture in the book when it was time to kiss the baby. We knew all the words after reading it so often. Her comment, upon finishing the story, was "read it again". The book was so worn that her mother had to recently replace it so both sisters can read it before another sibling arrives this winter. Colors and illustrations are very appealing.

Women of the Silk is a memorable treat for the reader.

Women of the Silk - book cover picture

Gail Tsukiyama's beautifully written book is the poignant story of life in rural China in the 1920's. The characters are so finely crafted that the reader feels every emotion -- the joy, the heartbreak, the drudgery, and the intense friendship of women drawn together by the bond of the silk factory. Gail Tsukiyama is a true artist, using her pen to draw detailed pictures which will stay in the mind of the reader long after the final page has been reluctantly turned.

A novel by Gail Tsukiyama is a rare treat which would best be savored slowly, if only the storyline was not so compelling!

The Very Persistent Gappers of Frip - book cover picture

Nicely illustrated by fifty-two haunting and hilarious illustrations by Lane Smith, The Very Persistent Gappers Of Frip is a multi-layered morality tale for adults told in George Saunders distinctive, quirky, soulful style. A great adult fable, this remarkable and memorable tale is set in a village called Frip where goat's milk is the sole economy and the population is three families (the Romos, the Ronsens, and a little girl named Capable along with her widowed father). The Very Persistent Gappers Of Frip is one of those off-beat and original stories that will be read and re-read by generations of appreciative readers.

Common sense and dignity

Book title: The Concept of Mind

The Concept of Mind - book cover picture

The Concept of Mind is a great book for several reasons. The main reason to me is that Ryle clarifies the concept of being human, while he uses language in a natural way. In stead of constructing concepts based on (for example scientific) assumptions, he shows what we already see as obvious, just by pointing out what we mean with our ordinary language. He is far from reductionistic; mark the subtle irony: 'Man need not be degraded to a machine by being denied to be a ghost in a machine. He might, after all, be a sort of animal, namely, a higher mammal. There has yet to be ventured the hazardous leap to the hypothesis that perhaps he is a man.'

I read this book in 8th grade and it gave me an entirely new and more profound outlook on life. The way this story of a boy going through different adoption centers and foster homes was told had me hooked from begining to end. This book engulfed me and showed me how lucky I really am. Read this book , it doesn't matter if you are adopted or not.Trust me it will make you cry and feel as if you were Jennings Michael Burch.

State Of Fear - book cover picture

I am a HUGE Crichton fan and own every one of his books. So of course, when this one came out I jumped on it and immediately began to read it. This one stood out from his others though. Centered around the environmentalist movement, Crichton presents through his characters a view that runs contrary to all that we are taught to think in school and home. I found myself examining my own beliefs and why I had them, only to find that it was because that is all I have ever been told. Five stars to a book that can make me think that seriously and entertain the whole time. Seriously, this is an awesome book.
