Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Book 1) - book cover picture

my mother and i originally bought Harry Potter for my ten year old sister. as a freshman in college with a job, i don't have alot of time to read, but i couldn't stop reading this book. i was completely hooked! i don't normally like fantasies, but this appealed to me. i think a lot of kids will relate to harry's existence with his muggle family and his experience at Hogwarts. this book definitely encourages the use of imagination. the suspense builds to a surprising ending. this was one of the best books i've read lately, and i can't wait for my mom to buy the next one!

A Vow Of Compassion - book cover picture

Sister Joan really doesn't mean to become involved with all those murders that keep happening around her. She can't help having a suspicious mind, an observant eye, and a vocation that leads her to help all those who are suffering. This is another excellent entry into the Sister Joan series of mysteries set in England. The characters are well developed and enjoyable. I recommend this series to everyone. Again I also recommend that you start with the first in the series so you can enjoy the growth of the characters and the details that make this series very enjoyable.

Seven Sisters is another triumph for Earlene Fowler. I have read every book in the series and have enjoyed every one of them. She writes so well that it seems as if the reader were in the story listening to the characters' conversations. Everyone can relate to the family strife that goes on in the book. As usual Grandma Dove and Emory made me smile. I was also glad to see more of D-Daddy and other characters. I look forward to the next book.

The Eye of the World (The Wheel of Time, Book 1) - book cover picture

I thought this book was a great adventure. The pacing was quick. The descriptions were vivid. And I liked how many things seemed familiar and strange at the same time. I enjoyed it when Robert Jordon hinted at the meaning of things in the beginning, like Aes Sedai, only to reveal more later. I think the characters are nicely developed: some change over the course of this book; others are more fully disclosed.I liked that this book wasn't simply good vs. evil. I felt the struggle was more complex. The forces of good and evil seem to have more in common with each other than the forces in between. The book also has a huge background story with it's own mythology. The setting is detailed, and the societies are distinct.I liked this book better than the Fellowship of the Rings.

A Storm of Swords (A Song of Ice and Fire, Book 3) - book cover picture

I started reading some of the reviews already in place, and had to add some notes. I am not even halfway through! Martin is the first sci-fi writer I have read (yes, even Tolkien) who does not give you the "brave, determined, nobodies" who go out to battle the "all powerful, all evil, never born-never died" bad guy. No character in the story is faultless. None are completely demonic. Sometimes they win, sometimes they get their heads cut off. In fact, this series is more "realistic" that most of the spy-vs.-spy, Ludlum, type fiction. It's a great book, so far. It is a long read. But, I find that I read some here, walk away, and come back a few days later- actually anticipating reading what happens next.Well, there you go. If you are new to George Martin, get A Game of Thrones and catch up with us.

Built to Last : Successful Habits of Visionary Companies (HarperBusiness Essentials) - book cover picture

This book aids those who seek to improve their organizations (or start new ones) through a unique research approach - unique in two ways. The authors studied 18 outstanding companies through their entire history and also studied their respective primary competitors (e.g. Westinghouse and General Electric). Then Porras and Collins distill their insights into a few memorably expressed principles. I have found their advice invaluable.

I'm an avid reader; not only of Crichton, but of other authors as well. I've read more than a thousand books todate, but never have I enjoyed an estatic thriller such as Sphere. It is the best and surely my All-Time-Favourite. I LOVED IT!!! I've read the book 11 times, not because I don't understand it, but because of the chills it provides everytime that I enter the fourth section: The Power. I've recommended this book to all of my friends, even the ones who hate reading. The ones who have, cannot stop commending the doings of the book. Awesome, the best Crichton, the best Sci-Fi and my BEST book EVER!!!

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Book 4) - book cover picture

I liked J.K. Rowling's fourth book better then the others that she has written. I felt that it kept me more entertained and I read the book at a much faster pace. There was always excitement in this book and you did not know what would happen next. In this book Harry gets chosen as one of Hogwarts school champions even though he is underage. The tournament still takes place and you get to experience the troubles Harry has to go through ust because someone put his name in the Goblet of Fire.

Transaction, loving, and work relationships - not equal

Becoming Attached: First Relationships and How They Shape Our Capacity to Love - book cover picture

Attachment theory that fails to distinguish the fact that each relationship carries with it the potential to be good or bad from the perspective of the participants will always fail. Rarely are the number of interactions or expectations of those interactions classified into the full context of human relations that define futures as well as pasts, but recognition of the importance of the quality of attachments is becoming more common. As myths are dispelled, we may yet enter the simplistic world of the child or the animal to whom such theories are very simple, and who operate upon the wealth of information they comprehend that so many adults make difficult.
