Caught in the Net : How to Recognize the Signs of Internet Addiction—and a Winning Strategy for Recovery - book cover picture

Kimberly Young gives credibility to an addiction that too many of us are watching friends and relatives deal with. Until now, most information about Internet addiction could only be found on the Internet, which is a painful way to research for those of us who have been so negatively impacted by others' addiction to it. Young writes in an easy-to-read style, and her examples ring true. The only issue I take with the book is that I wonder if an Internet addict can still use it or if he even has to use it. My experience with an addict is that unless he gives it up entirely, he will be forever addicted. Overall, however, I find the book quite useful and have recommended it to several psychotherapists.

Great Book, Great New Characters

God Save the Queen! - book cover picture

I thoroughly enjoyed God Save the Queen. I have read and enjoyed Dorothy Cannell for years and was very leary of her writing books that were not about Ellie and Bentley T Haskell. Dorothy didn't disapoint!! Flora and the other new characters are every bit as charming and fun as the old.

Dorothy stayed true to her writing style and demonstrates her great and unique sense of humor.

This book is fast reading and fun!

I can't wait for the next one to come out.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (Puffin Modern Classics) - book cover picture

This book was a magnificant book! I highly suggest everyone reads it, of all ages. Through out the whole thing it was packed with action. It was not a complicated book to follow, it was very easy to follow. It has tons of GATS or great appeal to senses as my English teacher would say. I would tell the part i liked the most but it would give the whole book away! So get out and get reading Charlie And The Chocolate Factory!

A classic book on American foreign policy

Book title: Deterring Democracy
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
Deterring Democracy - book cover picture

Chomsky is all about an educated skepticism towards the news you read and hear every day. Making sense of it all is not as easy as it seems, as even Bertrand Russell once hinted. The book is a scathing analysis of the logic and hypocrisy of American foreign policy. It has to be read in order to decide what the fuss is all about, and if this is your maiden Chomsky book, you will be either blown away or battling with denial for at least a few minutes before you return to the precious comfort of your original belief system. And something told me I'd see Oliver Kamm's review here. I wonder if he actually reads the books he's reviewed, or if he's just clinging to something that's rendered immediately useless and valueless once he reads them.

An amazing story

One Thousand White Women : The Journals Of May Dodd - book cover picture

Once you've opened this book you can't stop reading it. A different view of an other fascinating culture. May Dodd is a very courageous young woman with a great heart and who isn't blind to people who aren't like her. It's very interessing to see how someone could be intergrated to an indian tribe even being white. The message in the book is quite clear: people condemn others far to easily. Indians are wild but they have a very comprehesive culture based on the same ideas as ours. I think we can learn a lot of from this book.

Timeline - book cover picture

Timeline is an exciting Technothriller in which a team of archeologists go back to the 14th century to rescue their professer, Edward Johnston, while trying to avoid being killed by the British and French during the Hundred-year-war. Crichton skillfully captures the anxiety and fear of the team, and adds a suprise ending. I recommend this book to all who A: Are a fan of Michael Crichton, B: Are interested in knights and archers, etc, and C: Just want a very good book.

A Child Called "It": One Child's Courage to Survive - book cover picture

I did not read Dave's book until after I finished writing my own book, (Orphan, A True Story Of Abandonment, Abuse and Redemption, by Roger Dean Kiser)The horrible abuse that we orphan children suffered at the hands of the State of Florida, while living at the Children's Home Society in Jacksonville, was some of the worst abuse that I had ever known. After reading Dave's book it really hurt me to know that a parent could treat their child in such a manner. I suppose the part that hurt me the most is that we orphans, after being hung, burnt, beaten, slapped, kicked and molested for years, and years finally excepted that type of treatment as just "being normal". The orphanage had convinced us that no one really loved us anyway. So we just got use to that type of treatment. But to have a parent who is supposed to love you and then treat you in the manner that Dave was treated. That must hurt even more. If that is even possible.

Rebecca - book cover picture

I read this book as a British literature project for school. I read it in two days, since it was so hard to put down! This book makes you really connect with the main character, whom the author kept nameless in a stroke of genius. I could feel the anguish and pain of the main character as she tried to fill in Rebecca's place in the manor. I could almost see parts of myself in the main character, she was so realistic. We've all had doubts that we could fill in the shoes of someone without messing it up. Plus, Rebecca was so seemingly perfect in every way. A must-read, very captivating and realistic.

ive read this book more times than ive read any other book on my shelves, and every time i start it i only take breaks to use the bathroom and sometimes to sleep. this was my first encounter with dean koontz but not my last, and i find that im very disappointed with some of his other books. (like Sole Survivor - yuck!) The Vision proves to be his only work that i can stomach, and even then there's a part in the ending that makes me sick. (in a good way. ;)
murder, psychic premonitions, a wild goose chase.... everything seems to add up in this entertaining page-turner.

Selected Poems - book cover picture

It is strange reviewing it. It's like reviewing some sacred book...
The whole World is here. And more... Here is Argentina with its familiar (to Borges) streets; here is a poem about chess, the Moon, tigers. Man. Here is Iceland in all its beauty and past; in a way no one else can ever portray it. Here are beautiful poems about art, God, history, mirrors, death, life, war, Shinto, Love, time, eternity, blindness, mortality, emotion, thoughts... everything and nothing...
Through this precious book we may perceive all of this through Borges' blind, ever watching, tired eyes.
I love to be lost in all those words...
