What's their problem?

I bought this book a while back and have used it probably a dozen times over the past year -- including lending it to various friends who were clueless about how to do something (recently it was how to choose a mover). I'm just puzzled by some of the reviews here that are pretty nasty. In fact, a couple of these actually misrepresent what's in the book. What's up with that? Anyway...it's a good book and a great gift for anyone from a young person just starting out to a divorced man or woman, just starting over, to anybody who digs reading lists.

A great book for beginner and beyond
Rating: 5/5

I purchased numerous books when I first started learning Perl, this is by far the finest. It requires nothing more than a working knowledge of HTML and leads you through the steps to learning Perl basics in a very logical, easy to follow manner.Ms. Castro has a wonderful writing style and makes sure to provide plenty of explainations and to not make the "leaps" that so many of the other Perl tutorial type books tend to make. I've been using the book for well over a year now and continue to find it to be an invaluable resource. In other words, the usefullness of the book is not lost after a few weeks.I don't recommend too many books, however this one I do whole heartedly and without any reservation what so ever. I'm confident anyone who purchases it will be as happy with it as I have been.

Limbaugh
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
I've listened to Limbaugh's show a couple of times and have come to the conclusion that Limbaugh's show is not very thoughtful or compassionate. He attacks people all day on the radio and displays so little class. This book is also negative, but you get what you give, and it shows that Limbaugh is a human being with flaws, something Limbaugh seems to forget when passing judgement on everyone under the sun. Skim through it and see what a hypocrite Limbaugh is. It is just returning to Limbaugh what he has given to others. And for that, I applaud it.

Memorable characters and Themes
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
The book starts out familiarly -- Ironhall, the epitome of a warrior's finishing school is going full force and the seniors are anxiously awaiting the arrival of the King. Once the king arrives, at least generally, the most senior student is bound to the king, or whomever he may choose, for years. There's a twist, though. One of the seniors refuses to be bound and that's where the real story begins. Partly based on Nordic and very early English sagas...remember reading Beowulf?...this book makes the leap to fantasy in a most satisfying way. Fair warning -- it's not really a sequel to the first installment and there is an alternate reality ending, which I actually preferred to the ending Ambrose faced in the first book. This is a rousing story of friendship, honor, betrayal and duty interwoven with magic, incantations and dragons. An absolute pleasure to read. Can we hope for more "Blades" in the future?

A children's classic
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
Brown Bear, Brown Bear by Bill Martin Jr. and illustrated by Eric Carle is a classic book for young readers. The REPETITIVE (not rhyming) text is what makes the book easy for little ones to memorize. The book introduces the very young to animal names and color words. The simple, REPETITIVE text encourages even the youngest of readers to chime in. An excellent choice and a must have in your child's library.

Engrossing!

If you have any interest in WW2, WW2 fighter pilots, or are just an aviation buff, this book is a must read. Written based on diary entries, letters home, and interviews of LeRoy Gover, the result is a hard to put down account of one man as he goes into the RAF and eventually into the Army Air Corps. While Gover wan't one of the high scorers of the war, he exemplifies the guys who quietly got the job done. A great book about a real hero.

Michael Moore Does It Again
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
Michael Moore has been a voice for the common people since his national debut in 1989 with the film "Roger and Me". In "Stupid White Men" he hits gold again. In his funny, fresh, and familiar style he once again plays the role of the little boy pointing out what everyone knows but dares not say - that the emperor has no clothes. While you may not agree with the points he makes in the book, they will make you think - and laugh.

A whirlwind kind of novel
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
Such a brilliant, fascinating, and whirlwind novel. The frame narration is wonderful, it adds to the mystique and ambiguity that surrounds the whole situation. It's one long huge piece of poetic prose. It disturbs, it frightens, it causes one to look at a darker side in a new light. The book is amazing, I would reccomend this book to everyone - even those annoyed with the characters etc simply cannot argue with the mastery of the book.

Written beautifully, very moving
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
Let me begin with the fact that some people may not enjoy this book for the stark details about the female experience. If you can get past that, this is a wonderful book.I loved the stories interwoven in The Red Tent, especially in the first two parts. The last part is does drag a little, but it is still interesting. The reason I gave this 5 stars is because I truly enjoyed reading a book that took me back to the time when life was really like this. While I am sure their lives were much more difficult without the technology we have today, I found myself yearning for the simplicity of baking, sewing, medicine, and sense of community that was so well-described in Ms. Diamant's book. I recommend it for any woman of any age who wants to dive into a fantastic biblically-based novel.
