The books in Calvin Trillin's Tummy Trilogy instilled in me forever a love of reading books aloud and an insatiable penchant for "American cuisine." I grew up reading them to my mother, a caterer, as she was busy in the kitchen. Aside from being absolutely hilarious, his descriptions of different dishes - from the humble french fry to more exotic regional dishes - would make our mouths water. Those descriptions and stories have never left me, and I've made a point of trying to visit some of the places he described in his books, including what I'd have to call a pilgrimage to the legendary Arthur Bryant's in Kansas City. Books to be savoured over and over again, preferably with an Italian sausage sandwich in hand.

Singularity is about two teenage brothers who decide to stay at their uncle's abandoned house for the summer. But shortly after they arrive, they discover a strange "playhouse" in their backyard and realize how much stranger it is from the inside... After coming into acquaintance with a girl who lives nearby, they learn of old legends surrounding the area: how cattle have mysteriously disappeared only leaving piles of bones in their place...?The three of them search for the truth regarding these mysteries and investigate the strange and eerie house of their deceased uncle. But the more they search, the more the answers seem to point to the same place- The Playhouse. Singularity is a story involving time warps, parallel worlds and intergalactic monsters.?It is definitely a wild ride, and highly recommended to anyone who is the least bit interested in theories of time and space- or just in the mood for a fast paced adventure.

"Being There"is the first novel I read which is in English.I never thought I can have so much interest in it.When I read it,I just didn't want to stop. What could happen to a man who had to leave a house in which he had lived for more than forty years?By chance, Chance met an important family, and by other people's misunderstanding, he became a famous man.I like the metaphor(although it'minunderstanding)which compares the garden to the country's economy. It really reveals many truths of life.I really enjoy it.

Very fast read
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
The thing that really got me after I completed the book (in under 2 days!) was that most of the novel expands 7 hours. With a lot of flashbacks, character points of view and history to keep you going, this book is one of the most fast paced books I have ever read. The story behind the mystery is very enticing. I noticed some of the other reviewers mentioned sitting by a computer while they read the story - I too did this and interrupted my reading quite frequently to look up details. At the very least, keep a thorough art book - Renaissance in particular - handy while you read this novel.Definite top 5 books I have ever read.

A simple, inspiring tale about LIFE...
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
As others mentioned, I also was waiting for something abrupt or dramatic to occur in Daisy's life, but it never did and I believe that was the point. Everyone has ups and downs in their life, but not everyone experiences something extremely dramatic. One of the themes in Daisy Goodwill's story is that we ALL have a story to tell about our lives, even if we didn't become a hero in the world's eyes. This book is definitely one that is not too intense or difficult to understand, so if you'd like to relax with a touching story about life, give The Stone Diaries some consideration!

This is a Great Book!!!

I read this book while my son was using it for a Physical Geography class at a local community college. I have been a flight instructor for 25 years, and this book actually clarified a lot of the weather and geography facts that I have been teaching for years. I wish I had had this text 20 years ago to clarify these terms and theories. I heartily recommend this book to anyone interested in learning physical geography.

Better than any soap opera!
Rating: 5/5

This book has everything. Sex, royalty, power, travel, spys, false friends. It's better than Washington D.C.! Georgiana is one of the most interesting people ever to have lived and the fact that so many of her letters survive make this virtually an autobiography. Were it not for the beautifully insightful comments of her biographer, Amanda Foreman, I am sure we would be lost in a swirl of too much information. There are rarely books this interesting, and the fact that it is non-fiction is astonishing. I am reminded of how I felt after reading Les Liaisons Dangereuses: outrage, fascination, envy, awe!

This is a very good book. It is very sad in it's ways and it can cause faltness. I was very interested in this book that my teachers couldn't get me to stop reading this book in class. Don't get me wrong I hate to read but when I read this book I was very interested about what would happen next. When I found out I was very sad and it was then that I found out that no matter how much a human loves an animal it can still do harm. I gave it a 5 star because it was excilent!

A Review on A Wrinkle in Time
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
I really loved the book A Wrinkle in Time! The main characters are, Meg Murry, Calvin O'Keefe, and Charles Wallace Murry. The main plot of the book, is to find Meg and Charles Wallace's dad, and save him from IT, an evil thing. I thought when they traveled through space, it was really cool. There were many happy parts, along with a few sad parts. I reccomend this book to anyone 8 years old or above. One of my favorite parts was when Meg went inside the transparent column, to save her father. I really liked this book, and I reccomend it to everyone.

Phenomenal Book
Rating: 5/5

Da Cruz does a great job of recreating the essence of boot camp. Not only does he give an unbiased opinion of how boot camp in the Marine Corps is, but he also compares the boot camp of the year with his own experience. Da Cruz also throws in the occasional history lesson in each chapter. It's a great book that will keep you entertained from beginning to end. I highly recommend this book if you want some quality reading.
