Very thorough Perl reference set.
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
I have used hard-copies of the 'Learning Perl' and 'Programming Perl' before, but this CD set combines both of these excellent references as well as additional references when you want/need to expand your use of Perl. The hyperlinked indexes allow easy access to the information one needs. The 'nutshell' book is useful for reading/browsing when you're offline. I have heartily recommended this set to a number of Unix/Windows programmers at work. I hope O'Reilly continues to release reference sets like this in the future.

A charming and moving tribute to a Greek island
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Audio Cassette
This book begins and ends with wonderful characters. It starts with a humorous and picaresque portrait of life on a sleepy Greek island and the absurd politics of the time (WWII). But then the island is swamped in modern warfare and the second half of the book is quite tragic. Yet the characters remain powerful and backed by a sense of history. I was transported, moved and taught something about life.

BEST DEBUT EVER !
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
I Have bought this book in the Dutch version and am absolutely impressed with this Novel. It doesn't happen that much to me to be blown away but this book is definately a tour de force from a begifted woman who has created one of the strongest human beings in a novel. It is a gripping story with an end to be treasured as one of the best ever from a debutant. As a John Irving fan I would like to really advise it to any Irving Fan. Miss Fitch deserves a lot of praise for a daring style, great character development and most of all a story that will not let loose as soon as you start reading the first words. To me this is the best novel I have read this year, and I believe it will be hard to put it down and find a tale as good as this in the upcoming months. 5 stars ans if possible 10 because this book to me is really an achievement to give any possible prize in literature. **********

The Guide to Inner Freedom at Work
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
This is a must read for people who don't enjoy going to work or who want to get to the next level of performance, for managers who want to become coaches, and for CEO's who truly want to understand more about their most valuable resources--their co-workers!Gallwey's wish for himself and others is to "work free" in today's rapidly changing and stressful work environment. We spend most of our waking lives working, why not learn to enjoy it while being successful? As in his other books on tennis, golf, skiing, and music, this means that we must learn to win the Inner Game--to overcome the inner obstacles of fear, doubt, and protecting our self-image that blocks our true potential--in order to achieve "success without stress" at work.I have read all of his other books and this is more than a welcome addition to the series!

Timeless, Charming, Entertaining
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
I remember this book from my childhood (long ago) and I was pleased to find it again while browsing the Childrens' Library. What I recall most vividly are the illustrations (also by author McCloskey) of the odd but likable characters from Homer's town. Seeing them again after all these years brought back a flood of memories of the time when I was first beginning to discover books. In fact, I don't recall really reading the book then, just looking at the pictures. Reading it today, I find that "Homer Price" retains the charm and spirit of a simpler era, sort of a children's version of Lake Wobegon. Nice to see an old favorite still in print.

If you're a programmer read it all, if not, must read Part 4
Rating: 5/5

I was attracted to this book by its title since I bought another book, Design Patterns. The first parts were good, but still I am not so sure I followed the author (after all I was expecting a book clearly on software patterns). Then came Part IV, wow! it refreshed my memory of grad school days, and the days way back. The author's lessons/advice are so true and I sincerely wish more people read about them!! I regret I had to reach the same things when it was late. Why nobody gave me similar words when I first tumbled on my way into the society? Gabriel is writing with TRUE passion and honesty, which is sadly not so common in this era.

!Intriguing and Surprising- different than all the others!
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
This book by Lurlene McDaniel is definately her best! It is different than all of her others. This book makes you really beleive that you are right beside the characters as everthing happens to them. The dialogue between them makes everthing that much more realistic. There are a lot of "main characters", which keeps you wondering what will happen next and to whom. As you read, you really feel sorry for Dawn Rochelle becauase she has leukimia, and when she makes a friend in the hospital and some more at Cancer Camp, well, you will just have to read it too find out. Even if you didn't like past books by McDaniel, you still might like this one. It is very different than the others!

Where the red fern grows By: Wilson Rawls
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Mass Market Paperback
This exciting and enjoyable book tells the story of a young boy named Billy who has two dogs named Old Dan and Little Ann. Billy is an 11 year old boy who lives in the hills of eastern Oklahoma. Billy wanted to have hound dogs that he saved up 50 dollars. Billy and his dogs go hunting for coons every night. One evening Billy had a bet with the neighbor's that his dogs could track a coon that was giving them trouble and no dog had been able to capture. Though the book is sad that shows the reader how important relationships with both people and animals are. Highly recommended for all ages especially for young adults.

Good Omens

I picked up this book after one of my friends recommended Gaiman to me--I had never heard of this guy before. All I have to say is WOW. For one of the few times in my life, I was finding myself reading during the afternoon (usually, I read at night before bed). I was finding myself WANTING to read this book. And, I was finding myself looking forward to the next time I could pick this book up. This is one of the, if not THE, funniest book I have ever read. Neil and Pratchett keep the book moving with multiple plots that all come crashing together at the end (Kind of like an episode of Seinfeld).I will be picking up more books by this talented man.
