Very clever, and entertaining

The Oracle Glass : A Novel - book cover picture

First I will tell of the two faults I have with the book. 1) the first chapter feels out of place, and it is hard to get into the right mood after it. 2) the charecters don't feel as if they have been described enough when they were introduced. With the exception of the two or three main characters. However I fell in love with the book when I bought it (on a whim for 3$ at a bargin book store). I have read it twice and am working on it for the third time. It is amazing! Everyone should read it!

Puzzles of Finance : Six Practical Problems and Their Remarkable Solutions (Wiley Investment) - book cover picture

What the critic Samuel Johnson required of literature in the 18th century Mark Kritzman provides here. This book has fundamentally changed the way I look at my portfolio and at the business pages of the paper. (One example: in a single lucid paragraph which is only an illustrative side note to his discussion, Kritzman focuses the entire debate over the privatization of Social Security). His book has also fundamentally changed the way I view investment advice. Kritzman's writing is clear and entertaining and the book is (1) great fun to read and to follow into the solutions of the puzzles and (2) a fund of odd facts you never knew but are glad you know now (see the connection between Einstein and options). It's accessible to the educated layman (I'm an antitrust lawyer), and you don't need calculus. It gets my personal top award -- a second reading.

Ann Coulter has a well researched book out???

Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right - book cover picture

I enjoyed Al's satire of the conservative establishment immensely. As a former Conservative Republican and current Moderate Democrat, I found Ann Coulter's shrill partisanly biased and highly inaccurate books a real turnoff. I like Al Franken's sense of humor and would like to recommend Joe Conason's latest offering for those open minded enough to see what the "other side" has to say after years of rightwing domination of the bookshelves.

RAMONA AND HER FATHER Is The Best Book I Ever Read

Ramona and Her Father (rpkg) (Avon Camelot Books (Paperback)) - book cover picture

I enjoyed the book Ramona And Her Father because it is a good book. It is very interesting. I also liked Ramona because she is just like my brother, always getting into trouble and being silly. The best part of the book was when Ramona tried to be helpful at the dinner table by trying to cheer him up because he got laid off at work.At the dinner table Ramona said something funny ,Ramona's father said,"once is funny twice is not funny and third deserves a spanking."The ending was good...

The Bourne Identity - book cover picture

If you love books that you can't figure out the ending, and don't want to put down, this one is for you. Any time you close the book you will wonder if Jason Bourne will go on without you, so you will pick the book back up and read another chapter. This book is virtually unknown except in the circle of fans who read Robert Ludlum. Once you finish, the next two books in the series, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum are good, but not as great as this one. Do not miss the chance to read The Bourne Identity. I know you will enjoy it. Don't take my word for it, read it, and prove me wrong!!

Another Great Stone Barrington Novel

Worst Fears Realized - book cover picture

I really enjoyed this Stone Barrington novel by Stuart Woods because it really hits close to home for Stone. People around him start getting murdered, and he never knows who is going to be next. The plot works excellently and moves at a very quick pace. I thought that the book also had a good ending even though I was able to guess what was going to happen. The only thing I didn't like was the new character, Dolce, but that is just my own personal taste. This is definitely a great book (and series) to read if you like something light to pass by the time.

The Gold Coast - book cover picture

DeMille is a master at keeping you riveted to a book while thewhole world continues functioning without you. While I've only readthree or four of his books, he has yet to disappoint me. I wasparticularly drawn to this book because of the locale -- the gold coast of Long Island where old money rules and the descendants of this old money, who have inherited these estates, can't even afford to live in them. You can just imagine what happens when the don of the largest Mafia family in New York moves in next door to one of Lattingtown's long time residents. This is my favorite DeMille so far. END

A football coach's life story, about much more than football

Book title: Another Season : A Coach's Story of Raising an Exceptional Son

Another Season : A Coach's Story of Raising an Exceptional Son - book cover picture

Gene Stallings had great success coaching football, and this autobiography covers the highlights, explains the problems, and has enough 'inside' information to satisfy a reader wanting that part of the story. But the real focus is on his son John who has Down syndrome and on the other members of the family and their friends and how they interact with John and what he comes to mean for them. Even the parts about football teams and their seasons bring in John. Gene Stallings is modest about his accomplishments and tells candidly about his failures. This book held my attention throughout.

An unforgettable book

Book title: The Fifth Child
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
The Fifth Child - book cover picture

This has to be one of the most memorable books I have ever read. I read it years ago, maybe even before I had children, and then picked it up not long ago at the library, not sure if I had read it before or not.

This book can really be read on many levels, but what comes at me most of all is that we truly cannot plan our future, we can plan for it, some of it anyway, but that is about it. There will always be surprises and tragedies that we could never see coming, even if, God forbid, we tried to.

After my most recent reading I discovered that there is a sequel "Ben: In The World" (or something similar). The sequel makes it clear that Ben is supposed to be an evolutionary throw-back and follows him through his young adult years. There is a lot of sadness in both of these books, one scene that still haunts me is of the institution where Ben's mother goes to bring him home, over the objections of the rest of the family, when he is a small boy.
