Dark Rivers of the Heart - book cover picture

I never read any of Koontz's novels until I heard about this one and I heartily recommend it! Spencer Grant is a former cop with the LAPD who takes a liking to a waitress he meets in a bar who turns out to be on the run from a secret government agency. He tries to find her along with his dog "Rocky" while being pursued by agents of the same organization. The whole book is non stop action from start to finish. I learned of this novel after wanting to read a book with a similar plot to the movie "Enemy of the State" and BOY did I find it! If you liked "Enemy of the State", you'll LOVE "Dark Rivers of the Heart." I hope this book is made into a movie because I think it deserves to be put on film!

The Wind in the Willows : Complete and Unabridged (Puffin Classics) - book cover picture

The Wind in the Willows
I would recommend this book to others because it's hard to put it down .I read the whole book in a half day. It was fun reading about the adventures that the animals had with their different personalities. My favorite character in the book was Mr. toad because of his crazy adventures. His personality also changed thorughout the book. In the beginning he talked alol abouty himself, was gredy and was very mischeivous. By the end of the book, he was generous, kind, adn thought about others. the best single moment was when r. toad pretended to faint while he was dressed as a washer woman. He chose to do this because he had seen a car in the distance and was hoping to drive it. His plan worked. By telling lies to the men in the car he was able to drive.

So fascinating when I read it ten years ago

Book title: Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park - book cover picture

Jurassic Park is one of the most exciting books I have ever read. It is the book that re invigorated my love of reading. I read it a few years before the movie so I didn't know what to expect. Upon reading it I was fascinated with his opening on bio-genetics and then awestruck with the way the story unfolded. As a kid who loved dinosaurs, it was fantastic to see them in this setting. I thought about how neat it would be if this world really did exist and I imagined myself in there with the characters. I thank Crichton for all his fantastic books!

The Book of Horrible Questions : Everyone Has a Price-What's Yours? - book cover picture

This book is for everyone except the weak-minded who also have weak stomachs. As for the stong-minded with weak stomachs or vice versa, it's hard to say. However, I think it's great. It has all kind of really hard decisions that range from simple dilimas to really tough pretty much lose lose ones. If you like talking about crazy scenarios and choices (as do I and my friends: you know who you are), then you will like this book. For example, would you rather spend a little bit of money on a book that is entertaining and fun, OR would you rather spend the same amount of money on going out to a lunch considering that in the future you will forget what ever you ate days from now and you could have just eaten rice instead, while the book will last on and on and can be shared over and over. Keep thinking...

The most "in-your-face" murder book I've read!

Book title: Messiah
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Mass Market Paperback
Messiah - book cover picture

There's nothing restrained about Messiah, a book awash with blood, mutilation, family conflicts and over the top religious symbolism.Despite often patchy writing and some one-dimensional stereotyped secondary characters, Messiah manages to stay a class above the many other wannabe serial murder thrillers. Many other books also offer a twist at the end that supposedly, "you'll never guess". In Messiah, a couple of times you think you spot it, but you really WON'T guess this one. Many books contrive human failings for their detective heroes to make them more realistic, but you'd never predict the true nature of Red Metcalfe, the complex and tortured main character of Messiah.Read it, murder fans! DON'T flip to the last pages first! And if you enjoy this book, then don't miss Val McDermid's "The Mermaids Singing", it's like this but even better, I promise...

Harry Potter is Simply Delightful

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Book 1) - book cover picture

I feel sorry for those who couldn't enjoy the Harry Potter books becuase they were concerned about "fat people" and "rule breaking." Mabye they forgot that Harry, Neville, and Herimonie were punished for their night time wandering,(their rule breaking) and were looked down apon by their peers for it. I have read both books multiple times and still can't put it down. I commend J.K.Rawling and can't wait for more books. The characters that she invented are marvalous. The Weasley twins are hilarious, Professor Dumbledor is absolutley noble, Hagrid is loud and laughable and Professor McGonagall is serious yet kind. I also would like to congratulate the illistrator for her wonderous portayals of characters and events.

Harry Potter Schoolbooks Box Set: Two Classic Books from the Library of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry - book cover picture

These two school books were written by J.K. Rowling under different pseudonyms. Both give an interesting look at the worlf that Rowling has designed for Harry Potter. The books are relatively short (I was able to read "Quidditch Through the Ages" over my lunch hour), they do give some very interesting information. Hopefully, these books will only whet your appetite for the upcoming Book 5 that should be out sometime this winter - or maybe early next year. However, these two books will be of much interest to Harry Potter fans of all ages. I recommend purchasing them - they are relatively inexpensive, and the proceeds are donated to a good cause.

A must read for every Star Wars fan!

Book title: I, Jedi (Star Wars.)

I, Jedi (Star Wars.) - book cover picture

This book is awesome! It follows the events of Corran Horn's life during his Jedi training at Luke's Jedi Academy, where he is one of the first 12 students there. Half of this book takes place at the same place and time as Kevin J. Anderson's Jedi Academy Series. What makes this book unique from all of the other Star Wars books is that it is written in the first person, from Corran's point of view. Therefore, you learn to know Corran in great detail, and you also learn a lot about what it is actually like to use the Force and lightsabers. In the book, Corran's wife is kidnapped and he must use his inherently Force powers to become a Jedi save her. He makes many companions on the way, including Mara Jade. He also learns a lot about his past and who he is. I,Jedi is a great book and is one of the best I've ever read. *May the Force be with you*

Fabulous work reconstructing a complex story

Killing Pablo: The Hunt for the World's Greatest Outlaw - book cover picture

This book runs 275 pages. When you start, you think: no problem, I'll blitz through this in a day or two. But, ah: this is Mark Bowden. So the story is fascinating; the subject complex; the writing precise and intricate. I found myself reading and re-reading entire sections of the book, just to make sure I really understood the implications of what Bowden was reporting. It's not that it was hard to understand or follow. Rather, it's that the events he reports are so dramatic, tense, and eye-popping, you often want to go back and read the details again. One example: in the paperback book, there's a brilliant passage on p. 194. It took me three to four readings to catch all the intracacies of Bowden's summation of the relationship circa April 1993 between Search Bloc, Los Pepes, Centra Spike, Delta Force and the CIA. Got that? Seminal reading. Can't be recommended highly enough.

Spoken

Book title: Speak
Rating: 5/5

Speak - book cover picture

I could not put this book down! This book is a must, especially for high school girls. A young teenage girl named Melinda goes to a party with her friend. While there, she is raped by a senior boy. Melinda finds a phone at the party and telephones the cops. Before she can tell the dispatcher what has happened to her she freezes up and the cops trace the call. The police end up coming to the party and crashing it, thus turning everyone against her. This book describes how Melinda copes with the rape as well as how she handles being islolated by all of her old friends for calling the police that night. The author did a great job of adding humor to such an important issue that many teenage girls deal with. This book definitely inspires victims of rape of how to "speak" out about it. It also gives readers an idea of what victims of rape are thinking and how they loose their self-esteem.
