Undaunted Courage - book cover picture

Stephen Ambrose writes about one of the greatest expeditions in American history. The story of Meriwether Lewis is exceptionally well documented. Ambrose brings the story to life from his youthful days as an aid to Thomas Jefferson through every detail of the Lewis and Clark expedition and his years following as Jefferson's appointed Governor of the Louisiana Territory followed by his tragic suicide. This book is a testimony of courage and leadership, of human possibility even in spite of human weakness. A fabulous read.

Inappropriate Men (Red Dress Ink) - book cover picture

In real like woman aren't a perfect size 0, with perfectly unattached (and desirable) gorgeous men falling at their feet, they don't have a clothing budget that rivals the national debt of some countries and they do quite often break the rules.Sid is the perfect real woman, so she's a size 24 - who cares? so her marriage fails - who's hasn't? so she gets involved with a married man - obviously this *does* happen... I loved the quick pace of the book and the backstory reflections, the poetry perfectly captured Sid's moods - I found it to be a very enjoyable read...great job, can't wait for the next one !

Milk in My Coffee - book cover picture

I just finished reading this book, and I must give Mr. Dickey his props. A co-worker of mine suggested that I read this book and I bought it right away. This book kept me glued to it at all times I hated to move my head. He did a great job when it came to suspense and the twists, oh the twists. I recommend this book to those who have had milk in their coffee or not. I'm going to pick up CHEATERS as soon as I leave work today.

Inspirational Modern Messages in an Important Historic Story

Mistress Bradstreet : The Untold Life of America's First Poet - book cover picture

I LOVED this book and couldn't put it down - It traces the life and work of Anne Bradstreet, America's first poet, whose story carries a very modern message. "Mistress Bradstreet" is vital reading TODAY for several reasons: 1) it inspires any present-day American who is bent on holding on to their passion, voice, faith and family in times of great upheaval and change, and 2) It fills in missing chapters of history of those women leaders, creative thinkers, and pioneers who continue to shape the world. 3) Finally, Gordon's writing is gorgeous, combining the best of storytelling, biography and history.

An all time favorite

Book title: Severe Mercy, A
Rating: 5/5

Severe Mercy, A - book cover picture

I read A Severe Mercy along with the Problem of Pain by CS Lewis in 1998. All I can say is, you should read them together. I loved the philosophical arguments (from CS) describing how a loving God could allow heartache, intense heartache, and pain to be experienced by those He loves. Then, I would switch back to Sheldon's life and see him share how he learned those very lessons with his wife. Little did I know, when I decided to read these 2 books together, that Sheldon and CS were actually friends! It's a great combo. I recommend this book to anyone who has been through a heartwrenching time...and for those like me, who can only imagine what it would be like to lose someone so dearly loved.

A wonderful combination of fantasy and reality

Book title: Was
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
Was - book cover picture

I bought this book when it was first released because I was intrigued by its premise, but put it away and forgot about it. I recently read "Wicked" by Gregory Maguire (a 'biography' of the Wicked Witch of the West)and it reminded me to get out "Was". What a superior concept! Every bit of the beauty and fantasy of The Wizard of Oz is ripped apart and destroyed, then replaced with cold, hard reality. Mr. Ryman's 'reality' shows incredible imagination and talent, and, in the end, still retains the importance of the fantasy. This book is a pure delight!

Hot Six (A Stephanie Plum Novel) - book cover picture

Evanovich continues to impress! Her use of a cliffhanger at the end of High Five was a great technique and I could hardly wait to read this one to see which of her two hot paramours she actually picked (sorry, I cannot let the cat out of the bag). She is also one of the few authors whose books make me laugh out loud. My favorite characters are Grandma Mazur and Lula - just knowing they are coming up on the next page plasters a grin on my face. Of course, both Joe Morelli and Ranger provide lots of sizzle. Excellent book!

One of my all time favorite books!

Book title: The Eight

The Eight - book cover picture

I was first given this book by my sister to read on my way to Spain. I finished it during the flight -- I couldn't STOP reading it. It is very well written and fascinating. I love the fact that it ties in so many facets of life. Both my sister and I have bought the book several times -- why? because we both enjoyed it so much, we keep sharing it with friends and family, who then share it with other friends and family - so we need to buy it again in order to be able to have it at home. I, myself, have read it about 6 or 8 times and each time I read it, I find something new. I wish Ms. Neville's subsequent books had been as good as this one. I'm giving it to my neice to take with her on her trip to Europe -- She will be in Paris among other places, so I really think she will enjoy it.

Definately the must-read of 1999, so far.

A Clash of Kings - book cover picture

If you liked A Game of Thrones, this will blow you away. The Kirkus Review said there were too many characters, etc., but I thought the plotting was made all the better for the multitude of characters; it wasn't hard for me to follow at all. Martin does a much better job of ending this one than he did the first, he leaves so many things up for grabs I nearly shouted and threw the book down when I got finish (Is the Kingslayer dead????). I would 100% recommend this series to any serious fan of books.

Out of the twenty-three or more Koontz books I have read so far, I have to say this is still the best book of his. I read it when I was down in Orange County for the first time in my life and to know that he was writing of the same county I was in, made it even more horrific. The way he details his characters and setting makes the book that more easy to forget about the real world around you and put yourself into Koontzworld!!!! I recommend this book to anyone that loves Horror and Science-fiction books.
