The Audubon Guide to Seashells is one of the best known and most reliable field references. Whether beachcombing, snorkeling over a reef, or searching a tidepool, this guide will come in handy for all those locations. Many seashells are listed in this guide, coming out at more than 600 in all. The shells are a feast for the eyes, coming in all shapes, colors, and patterns. The best and most admirable family covered are the Limpets. From dull green to stunning black and white striped, this is the most detailed and beautiful family listed in the book. Cone snails are also covered very well. The main question here is: Why does the book have negative ratings? Flipping to the back for details may be tiresome for lazy readers. There is nothing unprofessional about the book in any way. It VERY professional and a good recommendation.

Another Great installment in the series

If you are like me, you buy these books the moment they hit the shelves, stay up as long as you possibly can to finish them(cause you just can't put them down) and then have to wait another six months for the next one. This book was no disappointment, and sucked me in like all the rest. In fact, I think its one of my favorites, as it included a bit more "real life" for Eve and Roarke (ie, marital problems) and the story was a bit different than the others, invovling a goverment agency and spies. Yes, they are now coming out in hardback, that is my only complaint. But I buy all my other favorite series in hardback, so why not this one. Run out and get it if you are a fan. If not, run out and by all 19, you won't be sorry. Now only another 6 months for the next one . . . :)

I read the entire book and found it exciting to read. I could not help but root for this boy the entire way. I came from a similar back ground, white trash and living in some poor ghetto of South Carolina, and I too had a dream of someday going to the U.S. Naval Academy. I saw myself in him because of the sense of absolute hopelessness he had. He was trapped in an dysfunctional family and a nonsupportive environment and was doomed to go nowhere not because he was bad but because he had no opportunities. I never did get accepted to the Naval Academy but I did graduate from the U.S. Air Force Academy - it sure was a rough way getting their. All those late nights studying, all those hours reading SAT study guides, an extra year in college and then to have gotten turned down by the Naval Academy twice but to get accepted by the U.S. Air Force Academy instead. I was disappointed in the book because the ending really left me hanging. I really hope that there is a sequel.

A good book that renewed my faith in humans to do good!

This book is pure Grisham, especially the last few books, including The Street Lawyer. In this book, a character's life is redeemed through meeting someone utterly selfless. Although I enjoy Grisham's hard-hitting thrillers, I found The Testament even more of a thrill to read. Today, with all the violence in the world, it is refreshing for a writer to focus on the ability to change one's life without destroying others. Though I hoped the greedy kids would have received nothing, I was appeased by knowing they would not have the money long. I highly recommend this book. It is an easy read, and it will leave you thinking of who you are and which character you most resemble. That alone is worth the cost of the book.

Author Hampton Sides, succinctly relates one of World War II's greatest stories in what is one of the finest histories written about that great and terrible war. "Ghost Soldiers" is a lightening fast read filled with heartbreak and tragedy along with courage, character and of course breakneck speed action. Interviewing many of the survivors, Sides paints a vivid picture of a historical fact that unfortunately many have forgotten about. The POW experience proved a most horrible experience to all who suffered, especially in the Pacific Theatre. My generation owes a great debt to the brave men (and women!- "Ghost Soldiers" portrayes the often forgotten role women paid in the struggle for freedom)who paid such a terrible price. Sides animates this unfortunate chapter in human history with brilliant clarity and dramatic description. A most worthy addition to the canon of World War II historical documentation. A must read.

I first read this book when I was 12 years old (23 years ago) and it amazed me on how an author who is a x generation Indian like myself feels when he returns to the land of his forefathers.
I vividly remember the first chapters regarding VS Naipaul's attempt to recuperate a bottle of liquor (Metaxas) amidst one of the worst things that India inherited from the British: -i.e their bureaucracy.
His description of Kashmir, wow ...transports you there and reminds us of a place bereft of the strife which we know of today especially thanks to those fundamentalists.
Brilliant Book...the first author who got me interested in reading serious stuff

Conroy's Winning Season
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
Overcoming an abusive father and an abrasive basketball coach, Pat Conroy describes his life in basketball through his senior season in college. Despite being both physically and mentally beaten by the cadet system at the Citadel and a father worse than any Conroy has previously described in his novels, Pat discovers his inner voice during what he titles his "Losing Season." More importantly, he begins listening to that inner voice and following it rather than the coach who screams "don't shoot" and the father who continually berates him. This is a story that goes beyond sports to more important issues.Well written, reads like a novel. Deserves to be read.

A disturbing book on the lives of Jews in German Nazidom.
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
Klemperer has written one a deeply disturbing book. He recounts days in the life of a Jew under Hitler. For Klemperer it was the daily, slight insults that were the most demeaning. That is, the assurances of everyday existence were denied to him. For e.g. when he was denied passage on a pleasure cruise on a barge. Klemperer was saved on account of the fact that he was married to a German wife. If anything, Klemperer's autobiograhical account is another bleak note in the sad song of humanity.

Many researchers encounter nonequilibrium phenomena in their studies of order in seemingly chaotic systems. One promising approach to understanding nonequilibrium phenomena is by using lattice gas models which consider complex systems as collections of simple elements each related by simple rules. This book, by leading researchers in the field, presents an up to date and accessible account of this fascinating subject and includes many references. It will be of interest to statistical physicists and to researchers in areas including mathematics, chemistry, mathematical biology and geology interested in complex systems.

The summary on the back of the book will tell you that this
is a novel about the relationships between brothers. If you
read the author's dedication, however, you will come to understand that
this book is Steinbeck's life's work and, as such, deals with the subject
that he held most dear. It is a book about man's concience; a
great book -- one of the greatest I have read, and its epic storyline
is filled with wonderful characters and constant action.
The story transcends three generations, the breadth of the country
and several families and explores its characters and their actions
as only Steinbeck can. Read it.
