This is an exceptional piece of Sci-Fi!

Even the most ADD prone reader will cut through this book like a knife through butter! I didn't plan on doing a review for this, however, in reading what some others had to say I was compelled to register my opinion. Lets start with what this book is:1. A very fun read (remember those, so few books are more fun to read than a great movie)!2. An interesting commentary on human nature (almost like a futuristic Lord of the Flies).3. A prophetic detail of futuristic warfare. What it's not:1. Hamlet, Hobbit, or even Snow Crash (it is very approachable by all reader skill levels, both in word and meaning).Just my opinion.Enjoy...

Not Just for Kids!
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
I checked out this book from my local library for my four-year-old daughter who wanted a "scary" book, and the first thing that caught my eye was the excellent art work. It's absolutely stunning. Each page is a work of art unto itself, with blacks, whites, and grays that add immeasurably to this gothic little poem about mischievous gargoyle statues that come alive at night to frolic and play jokes on human beings. I can see how the book might be a little too scary for some children, but my daughter seems to find it "just right," as do I. Yes, the gargoyles look a little menacing and the overall tone of the book is a little dark, but it's also fun in the same way that Halloween is fun. Furthermore, I as an adult get a kick out of reading the book, the text of which is not necessary so simple that only young children will appreciate it; both kids and adults will enjoy it, in my opinion. I plan to buy a copy from Amazon for my own library, in fact.

The Lord's Plan for the Thinking Person
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
Coke Newell's sojourn through the Plan of Salvation brings eloquency and intelligence to a subject normally consigned to dogma and hyperbole.Up until now there have been few books which one would happily share with one's friends. I shall continue to order this book for all of my friends who are interested in knowing more about Mormonism.Mr Newell says what many thinking LDS Members have thought for a long time, and we now discover that many of the unspoken explanations for our particles of faith come to life in these pages.A good read for Mormons and Non-Mormons alike.Thank you Coke.

Literature at Its Best
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
I am amazed at some of the negative or lukewarm reviews this book has received. I read this when it was first published and was left breathless. I was in a state of bliss. This is what literature is supposed to be, I thought. This book, the first I had read by Anita Desai, restored my faith in fiction. I have been dissatisfied with the state of fiction for years and was ecstatic that I had found a book that could please me in a way that only great art is capable of doing. It is unfortunate that Desai has not received the popular acclaim that she deserves, despite her critical acclaim. She will undoubtedly be recognized as one of the best writers of the late twentieth century. I simply cannot say enough about this powerful, beautifully written, and subtle novel.

American Prophecies - A real awakening to the end times
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
This book is humbling in it scope. The author begins in the time of our governing fathers - who were not afraid to build the country on Christian principles and embrace the Jews as God's chosen people. It covers entirely how America is leading to its own demise by trying to appease Islamic Fundamentalism while subsidizing it through excessive need for petroleum products. Even liberals who might bash this book as being too Biblical would have to admit that long-term renewable energy sources need to be implemented so as to avoid our economic downfall at the hands of the Middle East.
I am appreciative of Mike Evan's courage in standing up to Yasser Arafat in public, and by exposing the lies of both radical Islamic ideals and liberal indifference to maintaining american values.

Excellent audio rendition of a classic story
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
A Christmas Carol is a Dickens classic whose story has held true throughout the ages. A Christmas Carol should ideally be read. After you have read the book you should buy this audio rendition. Geoffrey Palmer is not only an excellent actor but has a terrific voice for narration. Dicken's has a way with words that makes it easy to the reader/listener to imagine the setting. Palmer builds on this with his rendition of the story, where you can truly experience the old fashioned dickensian christmas era. Unlike other narrators that summarize this classic, Palmer reads straight from the novel so if you have the book you can follow line by line. The story is told across two audio tapes. I noticed that amazon.co.uk has just released this rendition on CD, so hopefully the CD will be available in the US soon.

Good space warfare
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
Mike Moscoe is one of those authors that I just buy the book without bothering to read the inside cover. I wouldn't miss one of his novels. His "First Dawn" series is a must read for any science fiction devotee and this series is very good. The characters are well developed and his universe is consistent, with some interesting ideas about how battles could be fought in space. "The Price of Peace" is the second novel of the series and as good as the first. If you like David Drake or Jerry Pournelle, you'd like this series. Good luck on finding Mike Moscoe novels at the book store, ACE doesn't promote him much.

Speaking Truth to Power
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
Prof. Hill should be a practicing trial lawyer. Speaking the Truth to Power made her case extremely well. If I was a juror, I would have no doubt in my mind that she was did the right thing for her country, her race, and herself. I applaud her courage and conviction to share her story with a insensitive, skepitcal, misinformed senate panel. Speaking the Truth to Power, is a watershed to all those who have ever been the victim of sexual harassment and ended up defending their integrity. Prof. Hill's story is compelling and riveting.

Another Great One
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Audio Cassette
This book was fantastic! I found that Djelibeybi, the Kingdom of the Sun that Teppic finds himself ruling, had many similarities to our own world and ancient civilizations. We also got a great look at what the Assasin's Guild is all about. So far this is my favorite Discworld book. The books aren't in any particular order, and you really don't have to start with the first one. But I don't recommend you start with this one. It may be confusing. But be sure to get around to it.

More intense than Kafka
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
Most people know Franz Kafka, but very few have heard of, and still less have read, his Prague contemporary Gustav Meyrink. This book is his masterwork, a brooding paranoid fantasy based on the Jewish Cabbalist legends of the clay automaton, the Golem. However the Golem in this story is simply a symbolic device which sets the backdrop for a tale of madness, obsession and the decay of a whole city and its inhabitants. The whole ensmble is made more poignant by the sad life of its creator- Meyrink was in life a paranoiac who lived his life in fear and spent much time in asylums. This is one of the books of the twentieth century, its dark imaginings foreshadowing much of what was to come in the 1930's and '40's.
