The Giving Tree
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
I like The Giving Tree because it had a lot of friendship. It showed friendship when the tree gave all of the things to the boy. Also because it had a lot of happiness. It showed happiness when the boy played "King of the forest". Last of all, I like it because it had a lot of sharing. It showed sharing when the tree let the boy eat the apples. I think my mom and dad would like it because they like sharing.

Great for the novice dog-owner
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
This book is very easy to use, attractive, and accessible. The authors do a nice job of summing up each breed's positive and negative traits, and are frank about warning off folks who would be a bad match. I was delighted by the categories they assigned breeds to, such as "9-5 dogs", and "High-input, High Output" dogs. That said, I prefer Daniel Tortora's "The Right Dog for You" for people with a bit more dog experience and patience. It contains detailed information about breed temperment, broken down into 16 traits. For people who really want to do their research and find just the right breed, on other resource can compare.

Insightful

Very good reference for designing web services. Takes many low-level considerations into account, relating mostly to XML data formatted documents. What I also liked about this book is being able to read about web services without references to specific programming languages. It gives you a good grasp of concepts that you can take into development with you. This book should appeal to anyone wanting to get a broader perspective of the web services platform. It also has the best descriptions of service oriented integration architectures I've seen. Erl's loose writing style makes some of the more complex subjects easy to get. Thumbs up from me.

A Book to Savor (but is it a "guy's book?")
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
Our reading group read this book, the men liked the Western adventures, the geology, the history and the curmudgeon and his railing at the hippie era. There are veins of ironic humor and persistent poking of holes into the popular myths of how the West was won. (Was it hard work and cowboys or sharp dealing and pirates?) The women found many of the descriptions poetic, vivid and fascinating, but some were disappointed that the relationships were more flat and 1-dimensional than they might have liked. Some felt it was obviously written by a man. Perhaps its a "guys book" but I savored it. Knowing that it is based on the actual letters of a real woman (Mary Halleck Foote) adds greatly to the appreciation for the author's creativity in weaving his story around the points of fact that were established by Ms. Foote's real life. Highly recommended.

This book changed our lives!
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
Parents, don't let people tell you that you're spoiling your child by not letting them "just cry it out". THEY'RE WRONG!!! You don't have to listen to your baby's heartbreaking cries and you don't have to be a sleep-deprived martyr! This book helped us to get the most stubborn baby ever born into a reasonable nighttime routine - WITHOUT TORTURING HIM!!! He's sleeping so great day and night. He naps (3) times a day for at least an hour each time as opposed to a few 20 minute snoozers. And he's learning to go to sleep at night and stay asleep/ fall back to sleep on his own! We were waking up with him as many as 10 times/ night; now we're down to just a couple and that's just in the first few weeks. I highly recommend this book to every parent, it changed my life!

Best books I've read since All Creatures Great & Small.

The Mitford books entertain us with small town life. But more important than that, when Father Tim is driving down the road and begins to count his blessings, I put the book down and started to count mine. And you know what? I have quite a lot to be thankful for. It doesn't matter if my battery went dead this morning - the sun was shining and the crocus and forsythia were blooming all around the statue of St. Francis. What a good morning !

A haunting story that you will never forget...
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
I first read this book when I was 13, and now, almost 20, it is one of the few stories that I still think about. I finally ordered it, and after reading it again, I am still amazed. I admit, reading it for the second time and knowing the ending did take some of the suspense out of it, but not in a bad way. I think the fact that this story has stayed with me for so many years speaks volumes alone. I have never and will never forget Jackie McGee. I am constantly running ideas through my head of what happened after the book ended. This book gets inside your head and stays there. It does things to your mind. This is probably the best young adult book ever written. It is no doubt the best I have ever read.

Learn How to Do It
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
If you are interested in the experience of companies that implemented the BSC, read the Kaplan and Norton books. Now if you want to learn HOW TO actually DO IT then this book is for you. Instead of selling the reader on the BSC concept Paul Niven teaches the BSC step by step - just like the book title says. I particularly liked Chapter 5 - commonly used measures from each of the BSC perspectives. This is a good book to have if you are implementing or planning to implement the BSC.
