I thought this was an excellent book about where I presently live Tucson, Arizona. Sarah's life in the form of a journal kept me turning pages. It was like reading Belva Plain's Evergreen all over again, I wanted to continue on with the characters, to read more, and not come to the last page. I really enjoyed the writer's style using the journal format. It gave me a good perspective of life from Sarah's eyes and the adventures she endured. We do plan to utilize this book for our local book club. There are questions for review at the end of the book. I found that helpful.

Excellent scientific treatment of a very difficult subject.
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
For the first time, an interested reader is able to find a clear treatment of a very sensitive issue in one comprehensive volume. The report presents the facts with a minimum of editorial or political "spin" and represents a critical step forward in our understanding of the Cold War's effects on innocent civilians as well as our atomic veterans, who were used as military guinea pigs. Readable, understandable, and objective, this work is highly recommended for all who want to take a critical look at the ethics of science and our medical establishment, and informed consent. The Nazis were tried for their crimes at Nurenberg; American victims of indiscriminant radiation testing have yet to find justice.

After 29 years in the Hospitality Food Service Industry I have finally found one book that encompasses most of what one needs to know as a Chef, Professional or Amateur. Concise, precise and easy to comprhend this book is a God-send. I have been living and working in Asia/Thailand for the last seven years and for the last year I have had this book as my constant companion in conveying to the local chefs who work for me the ins and outs of Western Cuisines. Despite the fact that English is their second language they all reach for this book first for reference and ideas. I think it may even "disappear" one day. It's practicality and no nonsense approach is a universal one and can not be denied. I wish I had written it.

Great Book for Undergraduate Sociology Students
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
As a graduate student teacher, I can remember how difficult reading and analyzing statistics in sociological articles can be. These authors have developped an interesting workbook that not only educates students about major social issues, but also shows them how to play with the numbers in tables and interpret them as well. If you wish to teach critical thinking skills in your class that can enable students to be able to analyze the data they are presented with in life, instead of having students memorize statistics on inequality, I would strongly suggest this book.

A COLLECTION EVERY CHILD SHOULD HAVE
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
When I was in the third grade, I read my first Laura Ingalls Widler book,"Little Town on the Prairie" in two sittings (I didn't read them in order:). I told my mother as soon as I finished the last chapter. She was so proud that the next day she bought me the entire Little House series. I am 20 years old and still have that collection on my bookshelf. I plan to give those books to my daughter when she is old enough to read them. This is a collection every child should have, or every family should have as an heirloom.

You won't want to come up for air!
Rating: 5/5

This is an AMAZING book! This is one of those books that keeps you reading till four in the morning, one of those books that draws you in so deep that NOTHING but reading it matters. DO NOT start reading this book until and unless you've got the time to dive in--because once you enter these strange, dark waters, you won't be coming up for air. You won't want to.
Susan R. Matthews has managed to create a most impossible hero, one who is, by circumstances, forced to engage in the most dreadful deeds (this book is not for those with weak stomachs), one who learns that he, like so many of us, has a gift for doing dreadful deeds. And yet, with every terrible step, this protagonist has the intelligence, strength and grace to remain a true HERO. This is an incredibly well written book, an exploration of the blackest, darkest and, simultaniously, paradoxically, brightest realms of human psychology. READ THIS BOOK!

I wondered, what does it mean for a vegetarian restaurant to publish a dessert cookbook? I mean, most desserts don't have meat in them, so ... Well, the answer is: it's wonderful! The same creativity that is a feature of the other Moosewood Restaurant cookbooks is clearly on display in the Book of Desserts. If you've seen their other books, particularly "Sundays at Moosewood", you know that the group pulls influences from cultures all over the world. This book is no different, in that the desserts exhibit that similar multi-cultural style, with spices (some of which are pretty surprising!) and flavors from all over. All the while, the Moosewoodies (I hope it's okay to call them that!) stay true to their own style, and keep the recipes true to their home cultures as well. I highly recommend it -- especially for party planning (making desserts for parties).

One of my simple favorites!
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
It's short but does a lot!
Each spread features a simple comparision of 2 different dinosaurs. It's a simple book of opposites that feature vibrant water color illustrations that are wonderfully painted to illustrate the comparision concepts.
"Dinosaur clean, dinosaur slimmy." "Dinosaur fit, dinosaur fat." "Dinosaur short or very very long." spiky / lumpy etc.etc. It rhymes comfortably throughout. I've taken my examples out of order. But that's the idea of comparing opposites.
The fierce dinosaur is smaller than the meek one which is huge! That's an interesting juxtaposition, much like in real life!
I love it for the simple comparison of opposites with fun visuals!

Among the finest books in the English language, all the more remarkable because it somehow reads quite naturally like German.
I found this book amazing--every one of the short chapters was like a little present waiting to be unwrapped.
(I am astounded at the number of reviewers who state, incorrectly, that this book won the Booker Prize--although it probably should have. It won the National Book Critics Circle Award, the first international book to do so.)

A Prayer for Owen Meany continues to be one of my favorite books. I tend to like Irving anyway, but this book is particularly special. I love the story of Owen and his faith. I love the way the story comes together in the end. In fact the only complaint that I have about this book at all is the continual return of the narrator to the present. I didn't want anyone to interrupt the story about Owen. I have passed this book along to my sister, my mom, and other friends, and everyone has loved it. A definite must-read.
