Now, all art books should be judged by the standard this publication sets. All colored reproductions. To reproduce paintings in black and white is just criminal, and the people responsible for this book understands that. I simply can't wait for the rest of the volumes. I can't think of another artist more deserving of this royal treatment(Well, if they can do this for J.W. Waterhouse, I'd die happy).

Essential reading for serious neuroscientists

Book title: The Synaptic Organization of the Brain
Rating: 5/5

The Synaptic Organization of the Brain - book cover picture

This book is arguably the most fundamental and important book in the entire field of neuroscience. It's not easy reading; an unbelievable amount of information is packed into its 500-odd pages. It's also definitely NOT suitable for newcomers to the field; for them I recommend "Principles of Neural Science", Shepherd's "Neurobiology" and Johnston and Wu's "Foundations of Cellular Neurophysiology". But once you know something about the brain, you'll want to read this book very carefully to really understand the current state-of-the-art of our understanding of neural circuits. Most major brain systems are covered, and the authors are all recognized experts in their fields. People who build computer simulations of the brain (like me) will find this book to be a gold mine of useful information, and the references are a great starting point for further investigations. This is the fourth edition of this text, and it just keeps getting better and better.

Wizard's First Rule (Sword of Truth, Book 1) - book cover picture

I love this book it has awsome adventures along with a little bit of heroic romance. Goodkind is one of the best authors I have ever read and has a gift of making you think you know the characters personanly. When you think every thing has come to a terrible end a sudden turn of events changes it into another wounderous adventure. I have also read the Tolkien books and loved them and thought no books where better...until I read this one. I have already recomended this book to all my friends and would do the same to every body else this is deffinetly a 5 star book. I have just started reading the next one and i love it already.

Raj; The Making And Unmaking Of British India - book cover picture

I cannot understand why a couple of my fellow Indian reviewers disliked this book. It is certainly written from a British perspective but is generally fair and certainly not slow to point out the shortcomings of the Raj. Perhaps there are some people who cannot bear to accept the many benefits that India has gained from her contact with the British. After years of post-colonial propaganda when Indian children were encouraged to demonise their former rulers I think there is a new spirit of objectivity in our country and books like James's can be read in a mature fashion. He is particularly strong on the pre-mutiny period and underlines the 'accidental' nature of the conquest. This is the best possible introduction to the subject.

A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius (Vintage) - book cover picture

a heartbreaking work of staggering genius. it is difficult to describe what captivated me about this book because there was very little that didn't. it didn't hurt that it was set in my childhood home, Berkeley, and that it's cultural references are those of my twenties. that aside, his writing is both honest, direct and humorous and he has few of the overwrought displays of genius that are found in most great contemporary literature (a la Salman Rushdie, John Irving, et al.). this book has forever claimed a place on my bookshelf and is among the first books i recommend to friends and family looking for something to read. i am purchasing all his subsequent works today on the strength of this book and look forward to reading his works for many years to come.

Once Around - book cover picture

I must say this is the best book I have read in a long time. I think we all feel insecure at one time or another in our lives about love. Molly found the love of her life and almost lost it for fear of rejection. What she found was the most beautiful man I have ever read about. A love story that is a must to read. Ms. Bretton shows us passion, insecurities and that one must take risks in their lives to find that one true love.

The Art of 3-D Computer Animation and Effects, Third Edition - book cover picture

I have had the privilege of watching Issac speak and teach on his subject and I highly recommend this classic book. It is a soup to nuts, up-to-the-minute overview of 3D and Effects by one of the industry's most knowledgeable pros. He has updated the chapter on digital production with multiple production pipelines and has some really excellent advice about preparing demo reels. Issac is a fine teacher as well as a compelling writer. Highly recommended.Ed Hooks

Well, I reviewed Kalman's *Chicken Soup, Boots* (which is wonderful: *****) and they won't post it. Don't know why, so I'll try this--her other must-have book--and I'll try to keep it short and uncomplicated. Kalman is at her best when she hits upon a concept which frees her mercurial, protean imagination from the shackles of having to tell *a* story. Here, with *a* setting and freedom to roam amongst a huge cast of characters, Kalman plays to all her strengths, and it's a wonder to behold. No child's bookcase should be without it.

The Eye of the Needle - book cover picture

Die Nadel, Germany's top spy, is enjoying a peaceful stay in England. He's looking for a little sun, a little fun...oh, and he also wants to grab hold of the Allies' plans for the D-Day invasion. Can't forget that part!

Die Nadel, or Henry Faber (his cover name), is discovered and must flee. He shipwrecks on a small English island, Storm Island. There he meets Lucy and her husband David, a cripple. Little by little, they discover the secret of their mysterious guest.

The book held me in such suspense that I dripped spittle all over it and ruined it. That's what a wide-open mouth can do! Have fun with it. I did!
