This book saved my sanity!!!

I honestly thought my daughter would never take a nap longer than 30 minutes until I read this book and put it into action. For the first two months of her life, she would cry non-stop from being over-tired, yet she would not nap like a "normal" newborn. 3 weeks after reading this book and putting it into practice she was taking two wonderful naps and started sleeping through the night on a fairly regular basis. Now she's almost 11 months old and the days of a screaming, overtired baby are long past us.
This book is great, in my opinion, for every mother! It gives 3 different strategies-No Cry, Controlled Cry, and Cry it out. I would recommend this to any first time mom, even to read before their bundle of joy gets here.

Bridget Jones, I love you!
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
Be honest. What woman in the late-20s/early-30s age group hasn't weighed themselves obsessively, dreamed of having little Calvin Klein-clad babies with a man you've only dated once, and been overly ambitious about cooking gourmet meals for friends and family? I know I have. I am a 30-something woman rasised on television ideals, which were reinforced by glamour magazines. I deal with the same addictions as Bridget -- cigarettes, alcohol units, Milk Tray, and similar. I have the same fears as Bridget -- how does my butt look in this skirt. I have the same aspirations as Bridget -- exercise more, eat less chocolate. Helen Fielding's presentation of women in this age group was bright, funny, sweet and honest. I loved Bridget Jones. The novel was v.v. good.

A beginner's book for forensic science. Excellent!

My only complaint about the Bone Lady is that it was way too short. I think Ms. Manhein could have given us more information and more cases than she did. I know I certainly could have read a lot more. Again, here is a scientist who luckily doesn't write like a scientist...meaning dry, big words, and boring. This author knows how to explain with humor a topic which really is a difficult topic to deal with. Reading her book made me wish sometimes I hadn't decided to go into neuroscience and science education for the Deaf! Karen L. Sadler, Science education, University of Pittsburgh, klsst23@pitt.edu

A concise, accurate and well written naval fiction.

This is a great book from the perspective of someone who actually served in Combat Information Center on board the ship which was used as the model for the book. I was dissappointed in the drug related issue since drugs were few and far between on the ship at that time. It took the shine off an otherwise stellar read. In all other aspects. particularly the operations and technical info this was first rate with few exceptions.

Kept me going
Rating: 5/5

This is the kind of book you just can't put down. Every page is another piece to a very complex and seemingly impossible puzzle. Few books deliver on their promises, but this one certainly does. The ending is every bit as unexpected, stunning and satisfying as you could ask for. A truly inspired novel from the first word to the very last. I wish The Last Day was only the beginning. Will there be a sequel?

She Walks is wonderful!!

In this novel about journeys, college professor Jeremy Cobb retraces the path of a pioneer woman kidnapped by the Shawnee in 1779, and escaped convict Hiram Sorley whose brain is stuck in the past tries to return to a home and family that are no longer there. I see in all this a metaphor for the vanishing wilderness; just as Hiram tries to reach a vanished place and Jeremy walks a pioneer woman's trail now criss-crossed by highways and villages, we in contemporary America face a wilderness threatened by environmental abuse and urban sprawl. This book is a warning to treasure the wild spaces before we too become dreamers with no where to go.

Five good reasons to read
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
Five good reasons to read this small treasure (which is listed for children but will appeal more to adults with a love of southern literature and folklore): 1)The language of the rural south; 2) What happens when Mr. Fat gets paid with a can of blue paint instead of money; 2) The story about the suicidal mule and the streamliner train (carrying the Lt. Governor and a Newspaper Man); 3) A bona-fide "hambone" (Hamboning was the ancestor of rap) performed by the storyteller, Ma Minnie; (4) When Miss Marie's Mama comes to take her home from the tent show; (5) Mr. Fat's opinion of the King of England. You could buy it for a child's Christmas gift, but if you read it, you'll probably want to keep it yourself. A few 'dams' and one "ass-over-whangdoodle." Not always politically correct, but as authentic as the red clay along the banks of the Flint River.

A fun, fantastic read.

Once I had this book in my hands, I did NOT put it down until I had finished. Reading it from cover to cover. And when I finished? I wanted to read it again. I enjoyed the ride that much, and was close to wanting to highlight my favorite parts. Thankfully, I stopped myself.
I found this book to be worth the wait, and up to par with Crusie's other works. It was everything a fun-filled ride should be: light hearted, witty, honest, and romantic. The character of Min was realistically crafted, and a true woman. Cal viewed her the way any woman wants to be seen, and he himself wasn't without flaws.
When I find myself wanting to be part of the core characters lives for longer than the duration of the book, I view that as a good sign. I didn't want the story of Min and Cal (and their friends) to end. Definitely worth reading.
