The Zone: A Dietary Road Map to Lose Weight Permanently : Reset Your Genetic Code : Prevent Disease : Achieve Maximum Physical Performance - book cover picture

Hi I.H. (and to other women who get hungry every three hours),It's okay to eat every three hours (actually it's better to eat smaller, more frequent meals anyway). I eat 12 blocks daily, so I eat 6 mini meals consisting of two blocks per meal. I eat them every two to three hours. This increases your metabolism. Because you're constantly eating, you become one of those people others "hate"-- people will constantly ask you, "How do you stay so thin? You're always eating!"What I like about The Zone versus other diet books is you do not have to eliminate certain foods from your diet. You are allowed to eat them in moderation.I will follow this plan for life!Zonefan :)

Cujo (Signet) - book cover picture

Despite reading like a pre-made screenplay, this is an effective and very involving pulp novel that doesn't pull any punches or end with any cop outs. It's quite realistically scary, too, in that King makes simple every day things, like breakfast cereal and a child's toy closet, seem menacing. Probably his best characters for sheer immediate indentification, since they're well drawn and fragile enough to be totally believable. A heartbreaking and very blunt ride thru the suburbs, where, alas, not even the family dog (or the family car for that matter) is safe. Note the clever references to King's other work, the Dead Zone, that sort of tap into the kid's childhood nightmares.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Book 3) - book cover picture

The dreaded Sirius Black has escaped from Azkaban Prison, and it is presumed that his involvement in the death of Harry's parents will lead him to seek out the young wizard. Therefore, Hogwarts is secured and Harry is watched closely. Of course, Sirius Black does come, but not for the reasons that everyone expects...This is the best of the first three Potter books. It is darker and more complex than the previous books, with plenty of mystery and a number of surprising revelations along the way. Azkaban and the Dementors that guard it are truly hideous creations, giving this book much more of a horror angle than the first two. The focus of the book remains the tight friendship among Harry, Hermione, and Ron.

A Fiend Unveiled - book cover picture

I was at a book store in a mall and Mr. Oliver had a book signing event. I love mystery and thought to give the book a try. Especially to support new writers. Mr. Oliver was extremely pleasant and we managed to speak for a couple of minutes. I must say that I don't regret taking the time to have been the first person in line. I got home that evening and opened up to the first page, to my amazement, I couldn't put it down. I was addicted to it. It's a MUST READ! I've read it twice, my husband and friends have all asked to borrow it because all I do is brag about the book. Trust me, it takes a lot for me to be so enthused about a good mystery book. Mr. Oliver, please keep them coming because I'll keep buying them. Thanks for taking the time to bring forth such wonderful work or art!

The Purpose-Driven Life: What on Earth Am I Here For? - book cover picture

Although my favorite spiritual self-help book is 'With Joseph in the University of Adversity: the Mizraim Principles', by J. Parks, this one certainly ranks among the two or three best ever written. Warren is excellent in every area of applying theology to our everyday life, and his organization is the key to making it all work! The theology is scholarly, yet easy to digest, and will not leave the reader unsatisfied. Warren is doctrinaly sound and personal in his approach. If you're looking for systematic theology for an everyday devotional, this one is the very best. If you want sound principles for everyday life that you or a graduate can use, go with Parks (if you can find a copy). Both of these are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

The Late Talker : What to Do If Your Child Isn't Talking Yet - book cover picture

I was so tired of hearing my son was just a late talker. I wasn't worried, but I had questions and wanted to know what I could do to help my child. Why is he not talking yet? Does he need therapy? As a father I absolutely loved this book. It's cram packed with information on how to work with my son to help him. The chapters are broken down by topic ie: therapy, things to do at home to help, etc.Simply put this is a must read for any parent of a child who has a speech problem. Best book and only book I've found so far that gives specifics on how and why your child may have a speech delay from an easy to understand parent/professional point of view.

A real book

Ordinary People - book cover picture

I think Ordinary People is one of the best books that I have read. I am not big on book reading and I found my self excited to read this book. I feel that the book was very life like and real, the problems that were faced and the ways of fixing them were ones that families face. I loved it when the characters thought to themselves, because it was very much like how people actually think, what emotions some actually feel. I am in high school also and I could relate to Conrad, there was a good job done making him an actual student. The way that he involved himself with his parents, although sometimes mean, is much like the way the teenagers do today. I think that this book was very well written and thought provoking, I would recommend it to those who enjoy reading and even those who don't, like myself.

Cold Caller (Norton Paperback) - book cover picture

Although not my usual kind of read, I picked up Starr's book by chance and couldn't put it down until the consistently strange and compelling end. Starr led me innocently into the story and into the life and head of Bill who most likely represents those aspiring, yet frustrated group of mid-30's educated creative types who are forced to yield to the competitive corporate inanities and heirarchies. Many of those young men and women must harbor similar fantasies and the book, like a good film, allows them a vicarious safe go at it. I liked the style and the creative turns the novel took. Looking foward to another good read by Jason Starr.

A Beautifully Written Tragedy

Book title: Into Thin Air

Into Thin Air - book cover picture

This is a book I will long remember. I really hated for it to end. It is non-fiction at its best. It was so interesting in its detailing of both the rigors and the extreme dangers of high altitute rock climbing. How will I ever forget the incredible sadness the author described of losing his friends to the elements, their hopelessness in being stranded in the dark, at over 26,000 feet, exhausted and delirious, with frostbitten hands groping for ropes in gale force winds and snow, with very little oxygen. And his private torment and feeling of betrayal in leaving some of his dying teammates behind on the mountain, to maximize the chance for himself and others to survive that terrible storm. It was a tragic occurance that happened only three years ago on the roof of the world, and was a fate that I could only have barely imagined--but with the author's vivid account it comes to life. It is a great adventure and truly a great book.

What a Book!!!

Book title: The Confessor

The Confessor - book cover picture

This is my fourth Silva novel, and each one seems to get better than the last. In actuality, I have read the Gabriel Allon series out of sequence, but that has not affected my enjoyment of them.

The Confessor is exciting and well written. Gabriel Allon, an art restorer/Mossad agent is asked to investigate the death of his friend/the son of the former agency chief and finds himself pitted against a powerful secret society of the Catholic Church that is trying to cover up the Church's role in the Holocaust. Although the story is fiction, the premise has basis in fact. The result is a fast moving novel, believable action and a plausible premise that provides the reader with some food for thought.

I have thoroughly enjoyed all four of my Silva novels , but this is the best so far (see my reviews for the others). If you like this one, and I think you will, A Death in Vienna is also excellent.
