I just finished Ward's book for the second time- even though I already knew the ending, it was incredibly gripping. The characters unfold, come together, drift apart...creating a story that will keep you hooked. Ward's humor comes through in the honest narration of Caroline Winters and the relationships between the sisters are complex and beautiful. It's another emotional ride with Amanda Eyre Ward- one that is very much worth taking.

This is the second Orson Scott Card novel I've read; I read it to find out if I like his work or not. The first novel that I read (The Treasure Box) was so fantastically weird that I immediately went to the library to find more. I started reading it last night about 9:00. Bad call, since I stayed up until 12:30 to finish it. I was impressed with his characterization. The people and piggies in the book were so real to me that they haunted my dreams, only fragments of which I still remember. By the way, I've decided that I like his books, and plan to read more!

Great Biography on The Greatest Coach
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
Bear Bryant was the greatest coach of the golden age of football, when the college game ruled, and this is the first book worhty of his life and legend. For me, the most interesting parts were his early years as a player and assistant coach at Alabama, and then, his early seasons with Maryland and then Kentucky and Texas A&M. No one has ever devoted this kind of attention to how Bryant turned those programs around. There are also some terrific appendixes in which the case for Bryant as the greatest coach ever is argued in detail.
All in all, a well researched, in depth life of the greatest coach and most colorful figure the game has ever seen.

I really liked this book
Rating: 5/5

Good Points-As mentioned above I liked this book particularly the argument between Lobo and Curly and their sharing of experences of the Meme Wars. Bad points-It does seeem to go flat towards the middle and don't even get me started on the ending Overall it was a good book and what I didn't like about it didn't tarnish the overall book quality.
If you liked the the Timewar serise you will like these books.

Superb Prose, Compelling Story

I read the review of this book in a recent issue of "Time" and could not wait to read it! It was money well spent and has a permanent place in my book collection. The tension builds from page one. I also liked the history of other hurricanes from Columbus' day on that is interspersed with the story of the Galveston Hurricane.I only wish Larson had included more photos and especially wanted to see the photo of Issac Cline in its entirety, not just on the cover of the book.A must read!

I never read this book as a child, but I recently read it while doing an assignment for a college course. This book is wonderful for children. There are so many aspects in it that kids can relate to (divorce, bullies, lack of friends). Dear Mr. Henshaw is a really unique book also, because it is composed of letters and diary entries from Leigh, the main character. It was a great twist on the typical fiction books. It's comical, yet serious and is a book almost anybody could relate to and love!

This is the best book I've ever read

Those who know me and know that my taste in books usually runs to historical fiction and 19th century British novels are always shocked when I recommend a Stephen King book as THE book to read. The Stand has it all. Read the original in '83 and inhaled the uncut version in three days. The thought that a superflu could decimate the entire world, save less than 1 percent of the population, is the absolute most frightening aspect of this book. Germ warfare is a very real threat in this day of Saddam Hussein. I do have to agree with the opinion of Hobbes@eclipse in that the fight between good and evil wasn't necessary and would've found it more interesting to concentrate on the survivors rebuilding civilization. But the good-evil battle allowed King to introduce some pretty interesting and slimy characters. I never quite got Randall Flagg's appeal to his followers though. It's definitely a book you won't be able to put down.

I highly recommend this book. I bought it as someone just getting into enjoying the coffee experience. I wanted a book that would help me learn more about brewing coffee, tasting, and what to expect from beans grown in the different areas of the world. It gave me the info. I was looking for. I also really enjoyed the section in which several coffee roasters across the US were interviewed about their roasting philosophies and what to them helped create that elusive perfect cup of coffee.

This book has now been added to my 'favorites' list. The story is about a young girl who is sold by her ailing parents to geisha house. She is soon taken in by a very popular geisha to learn what is to be expected of her. Sayuri soon becomes a very popular geisha within the Gion teahouses. She meets may different men who all have different ideas for her. The final 100 pages are probably the best. Just when you think Sayuri will finally be happy, the opposite happens. I promise you that you will absolutely love this book.
