From The Ghost of Camp Wispering Pines Kiesha inserted the gold-scrolled key into the lock and pushed open the door to the attic. The upstairs room was warm and quiet. The only sound Kiesha heard was the whir of the window fan as it stirred the hot summer air. She could smell the scent of of cedar mixed with somethind sweet. Lavender, Kiesha guessed. Rose reached up and pulled the tasseled cord that hung from the ceiling lamp in the middle of the room. As the attic filled with light, the girls huried over to the old steamer trunk. After they had all chosen thier outfits Kiesha called out,"I think we are ready." then she and her friends hurried to the mirror that stood in the room. as they stared at thier reflections the walls of the attic seemeed melt away.

great conclusion
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
Good conclusion to a great series! Robin Hobbs does a phenomenal job in depicting her characters in this series, especially the villian Kennit who I almost feel sorry for at the end. Also, the tie-in character (I won't spoil it and say who) to the Farseer trilogy knocked me for a loop when I finally figured it out. (Didn't figure it out till about the middle of this book.) I look forward to the next trilogy!

This Book Is NOT a Novel--It is a True Survival Story
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
I was quite surprised to see some of the reviewers describing this book as a "novel." It is NOT a novel--it is a true-life survival story. It was required reading in my South American Geography class, at the University of Northern Colorado, about 1975.This book tells the story of a sports team flying from Argentina to Chile, whose plane went down in a snowstorm. It is the story of the survivors, and how they turned to cannablism of the dead frozen bodies for several months. A couple of them managed eventually, after several months, to get out and get help for the remaining survivors. They were quite scarred psychologically, and ended up being absolved by the Pope. After going through that experience, they don't keep in touch with one another. One of the most gripping survival experiences I have ever read, and I highly recommend it to everyone.

Only Lewis could write so simply of the complexity of man!
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
Upon reading, I was first confused, then elated that someone understood exactly what I was exploring in my own mind. I wanted to know which was the "right" side, and I couldn't decide. I wanted a black and white answer, and life simply doesn't have that many of them. I totally identified with the main character exploring logic vs blind faith in my Christian life. Each time I think of it I am more and more focused on living by the grace of God rather than the logical laws of His. I urge all to read it as if they were one of the characters, depending on the character I choose there is always a new lesson.

this book is quite simply the Best Ever. i can hardly type for fear of drowning in hyperbole when i try to express its magnificence. it will make you giggle, cry, nod vigorously, roll your eyes in agreement, let out deep one-note HAs from within places of your soul no one has until now articulated, and shake your head in wonder. where has lipsyte been all my freakin' life? all this and i'm still not done with it: i'm officially rationing out the last 20 pages because i can't deal with the depression i'm sure to face when i'm no longer reading this fabulous novel for the first time. i can't overstate it, people. three cheers for teabag!

Intelligent analysis of ethnic polarization in America
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
This highly readable book analyzes the drift in American culture. Originally America was a "melting pot" where each immigrant ethnic wave valued subverting their cultural values to become emersed in the language, politics and culture of the US. The current environment tends to value ethnic differences. The survival of America, which has sustained frequent waves of immigrants, is challenged by the polarization into ethnic enclaves. Many other countries not unified have suffered chaotic internal conflicts such as the Balkans, Spain, Zaire, etc. He analyzes the effects of language, history, and cultural values on the stability of America.
Although the author's posture is not exactly politically correct, it forces the reader to examine the impact of valuing ethnic differences rather than the commonality of being "American."

Magnificent book!

Diane Sawyer, A reviewer,
This is the most magnificent books I have read. Filled with sadness and turmoil, so full of truth....so determined. I came from a life of abuse (child). Though I have read mostly memoirs like NIGHTMARES ECHO, I KNOW WHY THE CAGED BIRD SINGS and BEAUTY FOR ASHES to try and help aide in the healing process. I have found that this book COLOR PURPLE has also helped me in so many ways to understand the feelings that go on inside someone that comes from abuse. This is truly a page turner. So Magnificent.

A Grisham Change
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Audio CD
John Grisham has been criticized repeatedly for writing the same story line over and over. This novel, THE STREET LAWYER, is a clear attempt at a break-away from his typical "formula." Brock becomes the epitome of what many of us would like to do--he leaves a high-powered firm because he feels that something is missing in his life. He wants to do something better. And he does. This was an important step for Grisham. It shows that he still has many layers to his writing that we have yet to discover. And while he may never win a Pulitzer Prize--Grisham himself will tell you that he is an entertainment writer--he certainly deserves respect for delivering the story lines his readers desire.
