Rich Dad, Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money--That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not! - book cover picture

I am a middle class small business owner who was coasting along until I read this book. I have a corporation and enjoy the benefits of it, but I don't have income producing assets of any significance. After losing money in the stock market, I kept my money in savings because I was scared of risking what was left. This book has given me the courage to move forward again and find ways for money to WORK FOR ME. I also followed your reviewers advice and read Optimal Thinking: How to Be Your Best Self which I found to be the most powerful book I have read on making the most of the mind and every situation. I now have the correct thinking and motivation to handle risk and make the most of everything that comes my way.

Laugh out loud funny

Book title: One for the Money (A Stephanie Plum Novel)

One for the Money (A Stephanie Plum Novel) - book cover picture

Janet Evanovich has hit the gold mine with Stephanie Plum. She is so determined, lucky, plucky, and funny. The series starts off with Stephanie out of a job and desperate for money, so desperate she becomes a bounty hunter for her cousin Vinnie.

All the characters are richly drawn and quirky--in a good way, Morelli, Vinnie, Rex, Mom & Dad, and Ranger. Stephanie's exploits and narrative keep me constantly entertained and amused. Her Grandmother seems drawn from the Maxine from the Hallmark cards! Still her grandmother is positively tame compared to other cohorts. The story line is also suspenseful and well written.

All in all, a very enjoyable read. I have read 3 in this series so far and enjoyed the first one the most simply because Stephanie didn't have it together at all and was even more hilarious.

Highly recommended.

Closer to the truth than you know!

Spooky 8: The Final Mission - book cover picture

As a former Military Officer, I've had the privilege of working with men like King writes about. These men aren't on the covers of magazines. They're not running for office and they're not looking for glory and fame. They're not what you would expect because that's the whole idea. I find it interesting that no matter what is written about our government, especially when it comes to "covert operations", there will always be those with their heads so deep in the sand that the lack of oxygen has caused enough brain damage that the truth about such things will be something they will never be able to handle. Bravo to Mr. King and his courage in writting Spooky 8. Sadly, I know the story is true because I've been there. Spooky 8 just touches the surface of what this great country does behind closed doors.

a thoroughly chilling read.

Hannibal - book cover picture

I learned years ago, not to go into a new 'read' expecting a book to follow the same course as previous ones. Having avoided the disappointment felt by many - of this book not having the same feel as Silence of the Lambs - I read Hannibal in one sitting...it is chilling, fascinating, horrifying, and at times, charming. The dinner scene near the end is a literary masterpiece. And the ending...well, if it leaves us feeling unsatisfied, doesn't the mirror many real life endings. A highly recommended read.

It was an exiting book! At first it seemed a little boring because there wasn't much action. But then when Alyssa and her brother get stuck on that one shrip boat, that made it intresting enough to encourage me to read more. I thought that it was sad when Alyssa found her grandpa laying by the wrecked jeep because he was looking for Alyssa out in the hurricane. It was the BEST book I ever read! I want to buy the book for myself to read whenever I want!

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Book 4) - book cover picture

This book was great I read it in a day I just could not put it down! Harry has a crush,(Well, he does have a problem with it , but I am not about to tell you.) The Triwizards Tournament has come to Hogwartz and gets Harry in a mess. Plus, we get a new Defense against the Dark Arts teacher, a boyfriend for Hermione( Not Harry, Not Ron, a whole new character!),new Voldemort schemes and the Quidittch World Cup! Harry gets a whole new load of information on the past, Sirius Black comes into play, and Malfoy becomes evan more detestable. Add a nosey snittching reportor and you have got this book sensation! I recommened it to everyone,(Don't worry the 734 pages of text go by fast! Amazon.com included 18 pages of table of contents and all that stuff in the 752 pages!)I spent my entire day poring over it. Read the book and you will stare kinda funny at those who think that it is a waste of time!

Helping Yourself With White Witchcraft (Reward Book) - book cover picture

This is one of the better books on witchcraft. It is very well organized and the author knows what he is talking about. The book is positive, because the author believes in what he is saying. It is not a con or false information. The spells and his advice work, if you work at them. With a lot of practice , witchcraft does work. There is no royal road to success and the occult is no exception. You must practice for a long time to see results. This is what Manning says in the book. I give the book a full thumbs up.

A unique view of an exceptional hockey team

Book title: The Game

The Game - book cover picture

The game by Ken Dryden provides a unique view of the Montreal Canadiens during their 1970's reign as the premiere ice hockey team of the NHL and arguably of the world. Dryden's perspective of the team as a whole, the individual players and himself are a fascinating analysis of what made the team "gel" in both good and bad times. In particular, Dryden's critical self-appraisal of his career as it came to a conclusion is a revealing testimonial to his strength of character and his love for the game. A highly cerebral and entertaining reading experience.

An excellent book

Book title: A Different Mirror : A History of Multicultural America

A Different Mirror : A History of Multicultural America - book cover picture

The book may be unsettling because it doesn't put middle class people of European origin like me at the center of the story, and it presents negative as well as positive aspects of our history. That's why it is such a good book: it lets me look out from inside someone else's skin. The final chapter is no more "biased" than traditional histories - it just has a different "bias." Since we cannot escape bias, awareness of other biases may help us avoid thinking of our own biases as though they were universal. Takaki's scholarship is solid and his academic credentials impressive.
