A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius (Vintage) - book cover picture

I will never claim to be David Foster Wallace and won't attempt to do justice to his blurb on the back but basicly his point is that eggers has just tremndous guts to spend this entire book in every line from the banal of everyday to the scenes of grief coated in this very pure reverence. this book challenges the reader by not heavy handedly underlining the things beneath the text. Eggers skips the dramatic pauses and expresses a human story genuine above all things. AHWOSG is an emotion always on the fringe of coming forward. Eggers allows you to know what is behind the curtain without letting you see him look the other way. It is an amazing, accessible trip. The kind the sits on your mind not heavy, but like another voice; a borrowed pair of eyes to see from the outside in.

Great Reading

Julie and Romeo: A Novel - book cover picture

I happened to be on a business trip when the man sitting next to me gave me his New York Times and as I was reading it I saw the ad for this book. When I got to my destination I happened by a book store and decided to get the book. What a wonderful treat for me. I started reading the book and could not put it down. I laughed so much. It was wonderful reading about Romero and Julie. The best thing was that they were older, more mature people and they found love. This just goes to show that you are never too old for love. The grandmother was so funny. But by far the funniest scenes were when Romero and Julie were caught naked in the flower shop by Raymond and when Romero and Mort got in a fight. I loved the fact that Tony and Sandy were able to find each other after 15 years.Treat yourself to a wonderful book about finding love when and where you least expect it. This was pure enjoyment.

Step aside DaVinci Code, there is a new novel for the pantheon of great novels. Silva's trilogy reaches a crescendo in this book and it is the best. I may read a better book this year but I doubt it. Gabriel Allon character is great and the subject is very important. There simply is no better writer than Silva. You must read the previous two novels in this trilogy to fully understand the depth of the book. Silva has been improving all the time and this is his zenith. I would recommend any serious reader of the genre get these books and put them up with the other great novels of our time.

Wait Till Helen Comes: A Ghost Story (Avon Camelot Books) - book cover picture

I loved this book. It is the best book I have ever read. I like Heather. I don't know why though. I liked this book so much that I bought it. I would read this book over and over if I could, but I am in the 5 grade and we have something called Acelarated Read(which means you can only read in a sertain level that your teacher gives you). At my school there isn't many good books in my level. Wait Till Helen Comes is one of the best books at my school. I am going to read this book as many times as I can during the summer and also in the 6th grade(if there isn't A.R. there). I suggest reading that book again, as many times as you can. My name is Allison Mayfield and I am 11 years old.

The Kidnapping of Christina Lattimore (Laurel Leaf Books) - book cover picture

"Why me? " is the question that Christina finds herself asking when she wakes up in a cold, dark, and damp basement. She has just signed a ransom note to her grandma against her will. The next day her kidnapper makes her go through the house and put her fingerprints on everything from a glass to a light switch. After her kidnappers get back with the ransom money they divide it to two piles on the table. Suddenly there is a noise at the door. They drop the gun into Christina's lap and put their hands in the air, it's the police and they blame Christina for setting up her own kidnapping! Can she prove her innocence?
I like this book because it is very interesting to see if Christina will prove her innocence. You will just want to read, read, and read some more. In fact I read the whole book in one day. You should read this book, too. It shows how strong one girl is to go to such great lengths to prove her innocence

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Book 3) - book cover picture

I'm a 36 year old woman, young at heart and I admit that I'm a new Harry Potter fan . This was the most enchanting book that I have read in a long time. Upon reading this book, I fell in love with all the characters. It makes me wish that I went to a school like that when I was young. I bought some copies for my nieces and nephews. They really enjoyed them. One of my nephews actually received extra credit in class for bringing his to school. I also suffer from depression and this book provides stress free reading which lets me explore my new found imagination. As a Christian I don't have a problem with it either. After all it's just fantasy. We need more authors like Ms. Rowling to write books such as these so that children and adults alike can lighten up and experience the joy of youthfulness.

Syndrome X: The Complete Nutritional Program to Prevent and Reverse Insulin Resistance - book cover picture

As usual, Jack Challam's scholarship is excellent. Challem (and company) present a well-researched look at one of the most common health conditions of the 20th and 21st centuries, based on the American diet. I'm pleased to see solutions to the dietary problems outlined in the text, solutions that will be easy for the interested listener to follow. For example, correlating mineral deficiencies with metabolic imbalances is good scholarship and good clinical practice. Readers should take the book, and the advice, seriously.

This Is Not Your Mother's Menopause : One Woman's Natural Journey Through Change - book cover picture

I have just finished Ms. Posner's book and couldn't wait to share the experience. Trisha put into words the thoughts and feelings that all of us have when presented with the statement from our doctors that we are in (or approaching or through) menopause. Since so many doctors are uninformed as to any alternatives to HRT, this book opened the door to my own search for options. Even if a woman is satisfied with her regimen for the transition through menopause, I think that this book offers a very entertaining glimpse into one woman's struggle to become informed and regain control of her life.

The Dante Club : A Novel - book cover picture

The Dante Club is a terrific novel and if I hadn't met Matthew Pearl, his father, mother, and brother when Matthew was a young child living in Sunnyside, NY (a town in Queens County of New York City), I would naturally assume that the author was an older individual with much more time on this earth to have gained the muturity to develop such a unique and entertaining novel. The blend in this novel has integrated my enjoyment of biographical historical novels and mysteries to offer a new reading experience for me. When I heard through the grapevine that Matthew had written a novel, I went straight out to buy it. The book is well worth the money spent. The book has been a pleasure to read and I have been recommending it to co-workers who have made note that is has been on the best seller list.

I Love This Book...

Book title: To Kill a Mockingbird

To Kill a Mockingbird - book cover picture

This book has left a mark in my head that I can't seem to get rid of. I read it as part of a class (it was a requirement) and I remember thinking "This better not be about a bird 'cause otherwise I'm gonna get bored reading it."...It wasn't...
Instead I found a story of a little girl struggling with her thoughts, living with her father and little brother in a town were everything seemed big, but people were small minded. The fact that the way she grew up kept her grounded, I couldn't help but wonder how it would be like to be in her shoes for more that a minute. Growing up around boys myself I related to her and the way she thought. I remember thinking how innocent I used to be because I shared some of her thoughts when I was her age and even thought there's a huge difference between how people lived their lives then and how they live their lives now, I can honestly say that innocence will never change...I love this book and every time I read it I'm reminded of that...
