Probably the best in the series!

Stone of Tears (Sword of Truth, Book 2) - book cover picture

I'll admit, I havn't read the entire series (just finished Blood of the Fold), but Stone of Tears is the best of the first three. I'll have to agree that it was extremely slow at the beginning, but the battles with the Imperial Order make up for that. Goodkind delivers a extremely well written story, that packs a punch. During the first few hundred pages, Goodkind is winding up, but the last twenty or so, the delivery is so great, that I got in trouble by my parents for not listening to them when they called. A very good foothold for a very promising series!

RFK: A Candid Biography of Robert F. Kennedy - book cover picture

This is a provocative book that gets behind the public facade of one of our most beloved fallen heros. Those who want their heros to be fault free and with none of the common human frailties that plague the rest of us should look elsewhere. The book contains an excellent index, copious source notes, and a wealth of revealing anecdotes and rememberences that enriched my perspective of a man I have long admired.

Great book, format is Hardback--not paperback.

The Complete Works (Arden Shakespeare) - book cover picture

This is the Shakespeare I've been waiting for and I'm quite glad I have it. The word I find best to describe it is "clean", both because of the presentation and the editorial treatment. However, the buyer should know that ISBN# 0174436157 is the hardback of Arden and not the paperback. The ISBN# is correct; it's the format that is misidentified (at least as of this date: 2-5-1999). Some other sites have similarly identified it as paperback, but AMAZON's cousin site in the UK correctly identifies it as a hardback. It's still a great book at a great price, but if a paperback is a must-have requirement, then wait for Arden to issue (or re-issue) it.

Delightful and charming

Tuscan Childhood, A - book cover picture

I found this autobiographical account of childhood refreshing and uplifting, but then I AM prejudiced - I had a close Italian friend, who was married to an Austrian, but who unfortunately has returned to Italy now. A more charming and faithful couple I have never come across. The numerous black-and-white photographs illustrated the text well, as did a number of drawings of countryside, architecture and people. However, I would have liked there to have been a glossary of Italian expressions and an index of people and place names. I found it necessary to scan through the text a number of times in search of previous references to the same character.

Mary's First Christmas - book cover picture

This book is quite wonderful. My kids loved it! The illustrations are very nice and the story of the first Christmas is well told. Entertaining for both parents and kids. The glimpse into the life of Jesus as a small boy is very well done, especially considering that we know nothing of his childhood from the Scriptures, except for his birth and the story of when he was thought lost but was in the temple. The story brings Mary and Jesus and even Josheph alive for the reader.

Truly Stephen King's master work.

Book title: It

It - book cover picture

I am an avid fan of Stephen King and I have to say, this is my favorite book of any author. As a child myself, it addresses some of my darker fears in a thouroughly entertaining way. I can really relate to the characters. "IT" is one of the scariest books I've ever read. It grabs you and won't let go. I have read the book at least five times and still want to reread it. My copy is so battered and worn you can barely make out the title. It is a great book for the beach. I wouldn't reccomend reading "IT" while relaxing in the tub. NEVER SEE THE MOVIE. The movie is very disappointing. It puts way too much emphasis on the clown aspect of IT and the final scene is badly made. But anyway, to truly understand the power of this book you must read it. It seems larger than life and looms over you for years to come

Sustained Suspense

Book title: Demolition Angel

Demolition Angel - book cover picture

Carol Starky is an interesting character. She is strong/weak, tough/vulnerable, and a little crude. I didn't like her very much at first, but as the story evolved, I found myself liking her more and more. Three years earlier she was on the bomb squad when a bomb unexpectedly exploded and killed her partner/secret lover and nearly killed her. She survived with some terrible scars and is still trying to deal with it and not doing very well. Her job is all she thinks she has left and she's barely holding it together. Then another man on the bomb squad is killed by a bomb. This leads Starky on a perilous trail to discover who is responsible. Along the way, she meets Special Agent Jack Pell of the ATF and her personal life is turned upside down. This is a wonderfully plotted mystery with many interesting characters. The suspense is sustained to a tension filled ending. An excellent read.

Programming with Visual Basic 6.0 Enhanced Edition - book cover picture

I finally feel like a programmer after working with this book.
So often I read programming books and become lost in the theory part. It's nearly impossible to get lost in Diane Zak's book. She will 'hold your hand' and step you through everything while explaining what's going on. In each chapter you will program the example with the author. Following the lessons are loads of great sample problems and questions. My instructor said this is the best text book she has ever used -for any class. I agree 100%. I'm hoping other books by Diane Zak will live up to this one.

The Best Baby-Naming Book There Is

Beyond Jennifer & Jason, Madison & Montana : What To Name Your Baby Now - book cover picture

Unlike most of the people who buy Beyond Jennifer & Jason, Madison & Montana and its companion books, I have never used this book to name an actual baby but use it instead to name characters in the stories I write. I have always found it far more helpful in choosing character names than most other baby name books.I have always had a fascination with names, and this book gives better detail about how names actually function in our world. The only thing I dislike about this book is the authors' sense of which names are too dated to use, but this may just be a generational response on my part (I tend to think of names like Dorothy, Phyllis, Walter, and Raymond as so far out they're in again, whereas they just think of them as dated ). But overall, this book is an excellent choice for anyone who needs to name anyone else.

The Mageborn Traitor - book cover picture

First of all, for those of you who have not yet read this, PLEASE refrain from reading to far in the comments. Only because some readers printed in some major spoilers. Now, granted, this book was at times heavy handed with geneology and names that sounded a little to similer for my taste, that was my only complaint. I found this to be a sequel that lives up to the series, and to Rawn's usual talent. Half the time I was rolling on the floor laughing, and the rest of the time I was in tears. She writes this book so you can really feel the characters, Cai's frustration, Sarra and Collan's love, and the twins confusion at growing up. Beautiful
