The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath - book cover picture

I read the journals about six months ago and at that time had never previously heard of Sylvia Plath. However, through the journals (which, may I add are displayed in all of their glory in the unabridged version)shed a little light onto her life and views; battling against the stereotypes of women at that time and being torn between being a poet and a housewife. She didn't see that a housewife could still be a successful author and poet-that came just years after her suicide. All in all, I would say that we get an insight into her mind in this although we will never know the reason as to why she decided to take her own life on that fateful February morning. She has even been canonied as "St. Sylvia" by some ardent fans, but even though I personally am mesmerised by this woman, you must remember when reading the journals that she was human, complete with flaws. If you do this then you will get the best from the book.

The Isaiah Effect : Decoding the Lost Science of Prayer and Prophecy - book cover picture

I got so absorbed in this book I couldn't put it down. For some time, I have been trying to link my spiritual beliefs and prayer with what I have learned as a coach about the Law of Attraction. This book clearly did that for me. It explains how to pray in a way that focuses on clear, purposeful intention and how your thoughts, feelings, and emotions impact the success of your prayers. Reading this book invigorated my prayers and meditation. They say that when the student is ready, the teacher will appear. This book showed up at just the right time for me and gave me lessons I will never forget."The Isiah Effect" takes "Excuse Me Your Life Is Waiting," by Lynn Grabhorn to an all new level of meaning.

The Mirror - book cover picture

I didn't read all the reviews here but I did read a good many and agree with all of the "BEST BOOK I EVER READ" comment. I join in that evaluation. Another thing I had in common with a lot of readers was that my copy disappeared while letting friends read it. A friend found another one at a used book store for me. I am so happy to see it back in print again. I too wish there was a sequal.

How Stella Got Her Groove Back (Penguin Audiobooks) - book cover picture

Any woman, anywhere, at any age can appreciate the feelings and emotions of Stella. She transcends race, age and marriage status barriers even though she is very definately a black-40ish-single woman. The writing style is unique and witty. I felt as though I was reading Stella's mind (which was the point). Don't we all form our thoughts in that fashion?! The humor was wonderful, the relationships so real and the charactors true to life. I can not wait to read it again

Not for everyone, but a modern classic.

Lanark: A Life in 4 Books (Harvest Book) - book cover picture

This book blew my mind. Complex, challenging, but with a whole lot to say about the pain of growing up. It taught me a lot about modern Scotland (lifestyle, attitude), and I figure Gray's fragmented fantasy style must have been a big influence on younger better known Scottish writers (to me anyway) like Iain Banks, A. L. Kennedy and Andrew Crumey who are similar to Gray in some respects. I guess you could call it postmodernism but to me it's simply beautiful writing, told from the heart. This book's not for everyone, but it's a modern classic and an unforgettable journey of the imagination.

The Sisters: The Saga of the Mitford Family - book cover picture

This English aristocratic family was undoubtedly one of the most bizarre kind.
This work has studied and researched it's charges with empathy, passion and objectivity.
The chronology is wisely structured and written with effervescent and engaging script.
One feels both the central characters, the decades and the life philosophies come vividly to life.
It is honest and non judgemental, sympathetic while avoiding sycofance. An engaging insight into a fascicnating family, interesting times and a lost world.

Passion's Promise - book cover picture

I just love Danielle Steele. I'm working on reading every one of her books. Every book of hers that I see I buy! In Passion's Promise, she writes about a women that grew up with a rich and tramatic lifestyle. She writes how hard it was, everyone always thinks it's so glamorous. The ending is such a surprise. The book reads so fast! It's unpredictable. Danielle Steele can write! It is my dream to meet her. Every book that I've read of hers has been excellant. I have nothing bad to say about any of them. She's the most creative and interesting writer. I hate reading, except Danielle Steele books.

Red Thunder, Tropic Lightning: The World of a Combat Division in Vietnam - book cover picture

This book is right on the mark and describes the experience of the 25th Division infantryman with candor and accuracy. I recommend it to anyone with an interest in the Vietnam War. You can't get any more detailed or closer to the combat experience than Eric Bergerud conveys in this work. The voices you hear are those of our 25th Division veterans telling their experiences as they happened to them. This is a great work destined to remain a major resource for future historians who seek to understand the Vietnam War.

Interview with the Vampire : Anniversary edition (The vampire chronicles) - book cover picture

This is one of the worst pieces of trash I've ever read. Boring, dry, dull, slow, corny, awkward, badly-written, ridiculous, and to top it all off, a let-down. Anne Rice is a worthless hack, her novels should be banned. This is not a horror novel, it glorifies vampires and makes them anti-heroes, and not a word of it inspires fear. I find it hard to believe that Anne Rice has ever read a full-length horror novel in her life. "Salem's Lot", "I Am Legend","Varney the Vampire"=HORROR. "Interview With the Vampire"=a sad, muddled attempt to create something original. Avoid it like the black plague. HP Lovecraft should be Re-Animated so he can yell at her

Ever After is not only a good book, but the best.

Ever After - book cover picture

The book Ever After doesn't start out slow. It starts with a bang and carries you off into a world you won't want to leave. It's a thinner novel, but it is jam packed with comedy, fun, and the things real teenage girls go through. I like this book because it doesn't sound like an adult wrote it. It could be anyone of my friends's journals, and it's extremely funny. I read it thinking, " I've been through that, " and " That sounds like me. " I wanted to be the main charachter's best friend, it was so realistically written. I love this book. I have read it many times, and I think I will go read it again
