Fingerprints of the Gods : The Evidence of Earth's Lost Civilization - book cover picture

The Great Sphinx, the pyramids in Giza, the fascinating temples in Tiahuanaco, the Temple of the Sun,... All these monuments of ancient history were always very intriging for mankind. How could they've been built without our modern technology, without our common knowledge and science? In 'Fingerprints of the Gods' Graham Hancock brings all the elements (myths, the way the temples were built, the materials that were used,...) together and discovers that all these buildings could refer to a forgotten and disappeared civilization, he discovers that all these monuments refer to an other epoch, an epoch which ended about 10000 BC. He has built an incredible theory which is well constructed, almost irrefutable and what do the egyptoligists, archeologists and historicians do? Nothing, they just ignore him. Frustrating. This book contains a very renewing 'theory'. A must for everybody who's interested in history or archeology. Magnificently written.

The Forever War - book cover picture

Forever War should be titled A Forever Read, because it is one of the best science fiction novels ever written. Better than Heinlin's Starship Troopers. As good as anything Asimov, Clark, Herbert, Smith, etc., ever wrote. I bought a new copy for my teenage grandson along with Amazon's new Steiger novel, Alien Rapture, which the SFWAA indorsed as the best speculative fiction this year. YES, buy this book.

A fine balance - book cover picture

(Fiction) This tells the story of the interwoven lives of four people in 1970s India. So many tragic events occur, but it all feels real. Mistry is also able to make you feel compassion for almost every character, even those end up hurting and harming others. The book is woven together marvelously well and is compelling. It reminds me strikingly of the possible plight of the poor. This is an important novel in its issues and its poignance. (As a separate point, it displaced Michael Chabon's Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay as my favorite novel.)

a truly great book by a wonderful artist

Forms of Desire - book cover picture

doris kloster's one of the most interesting personas and artist in the erotic photograpy fild, her on going dialog with porn, art and the femal body contininues in this book. it's very hard to explain a photo, but hers are cold, stylish inoveting and proffessional enough to be both highly artistic and very sexualy arousing as well. the book itself showes a large number of very well printed black and white photos, with a beautiful cover, the images runs from very explicit nudes to insinuated sexual mathaphors, it's great both as a sex book and as an art book.

Taking Charge of Your Fertility: The Definitive Guide to Natural Birth Control, Pregnancy Achievement, and Reproductive Health (Revised Edition) - book cover picture

This book is by far the best I have read on low-tech
fertility methods. Not only does it explain in simple terms
the various natural signals of the cycle, but it includes
numerous discussions of what charts that are a little less
than perfect can mean. It is written in a straight-forward,
non-alarmist tone, and outlines all the options, not just
the ones the author likes. This book is a must for any
coupleconsidering getting pregnancy. It can save you
a lot of time simply by arming you with information and
teaching you to be aware of what your body is doing.

God's Choice : The Total World of a Fundamentalist Christian School - book cover picture

This is the best example of qualitative research that I have ever read. In my doctoral program, this book persuaded me that qualitative research is a viable method of scholarly inquiry. Before reading Peshkin, I never really viewed qualitative studies as being useful.Peshkin is even-handed in his treatment of the subjects, and presents his findings in a manner which shows objectivity and wthout predisposed guile.Attention anyone teaching qualitative research methods courses: Rquire this book!

My Ishmael - book cover picture

Daniel Quinn is a genius. Unbelievably thought provoking. The best book is My Ishmael and it is plainly because of the questions asked by the simian, Ishmael. The challenge that this book presents as a little girl Julie is not yet knowing the full task at hand. She seems competant, and is reassured by Ishmael. The values taught and learned from this book are truly amazing and in depth. Everyone should read this book, they do not know what they are missing. The best novel I have read in my life simply because the morals and explanations of life itself.

Duty: A Father, His Son, and the Man Who Won the War - book cover picture

This is a good work. As one disgruntled reviewer pointed out, this is not a history book, but rather a memoir and tribute from a son to his father and to one of the many heros of WWII. Having been raised by a father from that era, it is quite apparent to me that my relationship with my father was my no means isolated, but somewhat the norm. This work struck pretty close to home. Having spent over twenty years in the military myself, I can understand some of their thoughts, but even that cannot bridge the entire gap. Those guys looked at life differently than my generation. The author has approached the subject with great sensitivity and through his conversations with these men, I feel, has been able to understand not only them, but himself. I highly recommend this one to any father and any son. Well done Mr Greene.
