The World According to Garp - book cover picture

I regret that I saw the movie first because you lose a lot of the suprises that pop up; But I will never regret -and never forget- reading this book. It beautifully mixes humor with drama and tragedy, and the whole time you can't put it down! I was 12 when I read this, and a year later I STILL can't put it down! And even the afterword by the author is great! I applaud John Irving on his wonderful and compelling novel.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Book 4) - book cover picture

Anyone wil like this new addition to the Harry P. collection. No matter if you are five, fifty, or one hundred! I like it beause it is magical, yet so believable! Harry is facing all of the problems and effects of being an adolescent, and I can relate to some of them. He is also facing the problems and effects of being a teen wizard at Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, such as helping his giant friend raise a dragon. It is a thrilling adventure, but don't feel apprehensive to read it to a five or four year old. Sorry, I am running short on words and time, adios (goodbye in Spanish)!

Women Living Single: 30 Women Share Their Stories of Navigating Through a Married World - book cover picture

I've been struggling with this issue, so it 's a great book for me. If a woman doesn't get married, it's not so much her 'singleness' that causes pain; but the culture's condemnation of her. I felt like I deserved the condescending remarks... ("Get a man, li'l missy, 'fore it gets too late!", or "When you learn how to love, the right one will come along...", etc.), even though they made me miffed. This book clarified the difference between how I feel about my status, and what I'm being told (constantly!) by the media, family, friends.Single is okay! It better be, it's a statistical possibility for all of us....

Through the Medicine Cabinet (Zack Files) - book cover picture

In the book The Zack Files Through the Medicine Cabinet , by. Dan Greenburg , Zack has lost his retainer , he looks for it in the bathroom and in the medicine cabinet then he sees someone exactly the same as him...
You should read this book because it is weird . It is weird because it says that he sees someone exactly the same as him through the medicine cabinet . I recommend this book to everyone because it is a little funny and a little weird and if you are the kind of person that likes weird you read this book.

No Great Mischief - book cover picture

Not since Ernest Hemingway has a writer been able to portray such painful truth with such poetic economy. If you are familiar with MacLeod's short stories (As Birds Bring Forth the Sun, The Lost Salt Gift of Blood), you know what to expect. Those inevitable moments when you must stop, dry your eyes and shout YES! to the universal experience of life seen through the brilliant prism of MacLeod's vision.Make no mistake; this is not genre fiction. This is Nobel fiction!

Good summary of key points

Self-Editing for Fiction Writers - book cover picture

There are a lot of books on writing out there. Many carry the same messages. But this one is different. It talks about those points that areTRULY salient. Using it, side by side with your latest project, is like having a friendly instructor standing by, saying. "Wait, you might want to . . . " or "It would be better if you . . . " Especially good sections are on point of view and character. I highly recommend this book, especially for writers who are serious about taking their writing over the greatest of mountains.

Weasel - book cover picture

I SAW THAT A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT SAID THAT THIS BOOK DOES NOT HAVE HIGHER LEVEL THINKING SKILLS AND I BELIEVE IT DOES. THIS BOOK HAS SEVERAL THEMES YOU COULD GET INTO GOOD VS. EVIL, LIGHT VS. DARK AND THAT MAKING THE RIGHT CHOICE DOES MATTER IN LIFE. THE BOOK HAS PLENTY OF EXAMPLES FOR DEEP DISCUSSION. I READ IT TO FOURTH GRADERS AND EVEN THEY GET IN DEPTH WITH THIS BOOK. PLUS, THERE IS A LOT OF HISTORICAL RESEARCH YOU COULD DO WITH THIS BOOK. FOR EXAMPLE, HOW THE WHITE FOLKS REMOVED THE INDIANS FROM THEIR LAND. GIVE THIS BOOK A CHANCE YOU MIGHT CHANGE YOUR MIND.

Great Novel

Rifles for Watie - book cover picture

I picked this book up in the fifth grade and it was the first whole novel I ever read. It was also the only novel that caused me to stay up all night because I could not put it down. While reading certain parts of the book I was literally shaking in anticipation. Harold Keith has (or had?) an amazing ability to make the characters live. I am now a senior in High School and have read Rifles for Watie many more times. I will always be grateful that I read it, because it gave me a love of reading that I will never lose.

Cyborgs@cyberspace? An Ethnographer Looks to the Future - book cover picture

As social constructivism goes this book is engaging and made me question my cyber life. It helped me write a brief paper. I am happy to say I enjoyed his delineation of the topics of cyberspace ethnography and feel they are valid. I was amazed at his sharing a professional reputation episode of his, that happened on the net. I didn't quite finish it but it gave me some good thoughts on the study of the social impact of computing and good first grasp of cyberstudies proper.

Book title: Timbuktu : A Novel
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
Timbuktu : A Novel - book cover picture

At first Auster fans may wonder what's going on here...after the jazzy dazzle of his earlier works, he here presents a startlingly simple, prosaic tale. Has the master lost it? Not at all. In fact, the intuitive Auster reader will recognise exactly what he's up to. Possibly moreso than ever before he's playing with the roles of author and reader, examining how much of a novel comes from the creator and how much must come from us. This time the onus is really on us, like it is upon the main protagonist, Mr Bones, to make sense of everything, to find our way in the places where our master leaves us. `Timbuktu' is a book which is as interesting as you are. I got loads from it, and in this straightforward tale I'm actually finding more than I have in some of Auster's earlier labyrinths, but quite easily someone else may get nothing from it. Great literature demands that we be active, not passive, in our participation. This is great literature.
