Joint Application Development - book cover picture

The only bad thing about this book is that you can't locate it when you search for books on facilitation. This is one of the most basic and down-to-earth books ever written about group facilitation. Anyone involved in facilitation . . . especially if they're just starting out . . . should get this book. There's something for everyone. Even if you're not facilitating JAD sessions, there's so much to draw from.

It was a pleasure to read this book - twice!

Book title: The Gold Coast

The Gold Coast - book cover picture

This is the first book I've read twice; first in 1993 and again this year. It is a masterfully-woven tale of hot-shot lawyer, very sexy wife, Mafia don neighbor, IRS pest all set amongst the riches of d'elite Long Islanders. The story is first-rate, always engrossing, and its characters are extremely well-developed. Above all, it is a story that will take you far away from your surroundings, no matter where you are reading it, because it is that good. DeMille has really put out a masterpiece here. Above all the attributes I've already listed, this book is FOYC(fall of your chair)funny. Oh, the wit and humor will have you hoping for more as you read on, and guess what? it's there! You will be continuously amused and pulled right into this tale of the rich folk. Oh what a great book. Read it now.

Better than Easy?

Book title: Always Outnumbered, Always Outgunned
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
Always Outnumbered, Always Outgunned - book cover picture

1. What is the text about? A series of interrelated stories about an ex-con living in Los Angeles; redemption and change
2. What is good about it? The stories are crispy written and evocative. Mosley writes with strong themes but doesn't bash you with them.
3. What is not so good about it? Nothing. But it's not a traditional narrative and those seeking that type of work may be disappointed (but not likely).
4. Who might like it? Fans of Mosley's other work (the Easy Rawlins series); fans of sociological fiction, African American themed fiction.
5. Personal bias: None really, except I like Mosley's work a lot. This is more "literary" than the Easy Rawlins stuff.

Wireless Crash Course, Second Edition - book cover picture

Wireless Crash Course is the book for those interested in learning about wireless communications without having to carry a wireless dictionary with you as you read. The author has taken what could be a very technically laden book, and broken it down to very comprehendible components. It is laid out logically to step the non-wireless engineer through all facets of wireless communications. A great book for engineers interested in learning about the wireless industry.

Riddley's voice will haunt your dreams, awake or asleep.

Riddley Walker - book cover picture

I've given this book to everyone who cares for literature that can take off the top of your head. You have to read sixty pages, then start over once the voice is in your ears. I read it aloud to my wife. Hard truth, hard magic, and hard mystery. A deep and breathless run through the dark with a strange but trustworthy friend. For an equally powerful, yet inverse experience of Hoban in the light, read Pilgerman.

Renewed my interest in reading

The Age of Spiritual Machines - book cover picture

I was a fiction reader in high school and junior high, but when I turned about 18 I stopped reading for some reason. When I was 20 I bought the Our Lady Peace CD by the same name as this book and got interested in why a band would name their album after a book.I read this book twice in a row. A few parts are kind of heavy reading, but read it again and soak up the ideas because it is worth the study. Get online and look at the websites he promotes, download the digital artist screensaver. Play with the basics of what are coming.I know that this book scares quite a few people and I don't know whether or not some of the world changing things will really happen in the next century, but I do believe it is eventual. The only thing scary to me is that the future doesn't scare me.Thank you Ray Kurzweil for renewing my interest in reading.

An outstanding writer

Eragon (Inheritance, Book 1) - book cover picture

Eragon, what can i say. It is one of the best books I have ever read. It has action, romance, mystery, and always kept me guessing. Unfortantly I am one of those people who sits in the movie theaters and shouts out the story line before it happens and it is suprising, not to mention embarssing, when I am wrong. Eragon was one of those books I should tape my mouth shut for. This book combines the both a well thought out story line that is interesting and a world fully created and decribed by Christopher. Reading Eragon is like being straped into the seat of a F-15 and hitting the after burners. THe only thing i wish was that i didnt have to wait for next book , but it will be worth it.

Hostage to the Devil: The Possession and Exorcism of Five Contemporary Americans - book cover picture

I don't quite understand what Malachi Martin is trying to achieve, but this book seems to have an eerie feeling surrounding it. From beginning to end, it breaks down the defences of the mind, and ends all logical reason.I have had a profound change since reading this book, mentally and socially. The book has a frightening grasp, and almost demands to be read after finishing the first few pages. Feelings of guilt and terror accompany any reading. I truely feel that this book does more harm than good for the reader. Nonetheless, i cannot give it anything below 5 stars. Malachi Martin acheives something more from this than any ordinary book.

Book title: The Sparrow

The Sparrow - book cover picture

With the time setting of this novel drawing near it is satisfying to know the story remains convincing. Ms Russell's extensive research is awe inspiring but I found my acknowledgement of this ran secondary to the plot as I became drawn into the life stories, action and aftermath. This book is a main meal. It is quite long and involved presenting a fascinating plot of wonderful originality. To find the central characters stodgy or unbelievably "good" is to miss the central theme - which is the human drive to explore to the limits of our known world in order to better our collective existence. Thus the main characters are a Jesuit, government scientists and the bondwoman. Who else is going to bother? Not the capitalist. Perhaps that is why this novel will appeal to idealists, left wing thinkers and the altruistic among us. But for a thought provoking novel with a science fiction core I could not recommend a better read.
