No Pretty Picture: A Child of War
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
The book begins with five year old Anita living in her home in Poland. Soon for fear of the Nazi's her family must go into hiding. Anita and her brother are sent to Lapanow with their nanny. The nanny convinces everyone that Anita and her brother, who has to be dressed as a girl in disguise, are her two sick daughters. All is going very well until Anita's mother shows up. For fear of being found out they are on the run again. This time the nanny and children hide in a convent. Later the Nazis come and take the children to a concentration camp. They lived there in horrible conditions until they were saved by the American soliders. This is an excellent book over the Jewish struggle during the Holocaust. I would reccomend this book to anyone with an interest in the Holocaust.

After reading this book i would almost bet my life that the ramsey's played a key part in the death of their daughter, jonbenet. Steve Thomas says what needed to be said and does it very well. The DA's office should be totally wiped out and replaced along with all top officials in the police force, I can not believe the lengths these people went to, to protect the very two people that most likely commited this horrible crime. Shame on them.

Use What You Have Decorating :
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
I have looked through many, many decorating books and magazines. I have never found one as helpful as this book. I could immediately begin to see things in my own home that, with little effort, could make a dramatic difference. It has helped to give me an "eye" for decorating rather than a picture to copy. I can go into any room now, and start to see the principals outlined in this book. I hope there will be more from this author.

The reluctant hero!
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
This is an excellent series! Tell the publisher we want them all! Starting from our hero's "impressment" as a rather old Middie, you are easily captivated by the humanity of this aspiring British Naval officer. Not afraid to admit to himself his fear of cannon balls, or his strong desire to "put the leg over," Alan Lewrie is a fun-loving, yet suprisingly competent rogue! This is a fun read that you won't put down! You should also read: Horatio Hornblower, Captain Frank Marryatt, and Patrick O'Brian.

Several members of my family have been after me for two years to read this book. I am an avid reader and had so many great literary works (and a few trashy novels) on my list that it took me this long to get to it (despite near tears, threats and bribes; they were desperate for me to read it.) Well, I picked up and devoured it in its entirety the same day. Yup, it was indeed everything they had promised it would be and more. I think I'll go read it again. Best piece of writing I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing! Thanks to you all for keeping after me about it!!!

Not such dark ages after all...
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
What a terrific book! I bought the book after hearing Robert Lacey lecture on this subject, and the writing in the book is as graceful and comfy as Lacey was in his lecture. This is the best kind of history--plenty of scholarship, a wealth of fascinating details about life in the early Middle Ages, all blended nicely together in a vivid picture of the daily life of the people of the time. Lacey's scholarship sheds new light on a lot of Middle Age stereotypes--for example, the people of 11th century England were about the same size as we are, not short, as we've always been led to believe. My favorite fact in the book was the derivation of the word "sheriff," which comes from "shire reeve"--the manager (reeve) of the shire, a civic division that was developed at the time. The Year 1000 provides an interesting perspective on the Year 2000. Enjoy it!

very good book

Anne's writting in this book is so detailed and great that I couldn't put it down! The storyline is so unique and I love how it ties the Mayfair Witches into the Vampire Chronicles. In fact, I was reading over 100 pages of it daily, so I finished it in a fair amount of time.
Told from the veiw of vampire David Talbot, the entire book seems to be nothing but a series of conversations, but I like the way it is set up to the way Anne set up the Interveiw with the Vampire conversation. Other characters include Merrick (of course) Armand, Lestat, and even Claudia has a breif role.

I can't recall a book getting as much publicity as this novel. This much anticipated book has been discussed in magazines, newspapers, websites, etc. Just as I was leaving for the bookstore, I caught Mr. Harris on the Bryant Gumbel morning program discussing "Not a Day Goes By". It is rare that I read a book in a day. I couldn't put the book down! I enjoyed reading the book so much that I planned to purchase the audio. You will not be disappointed!

wonderful cookbook
Rating: 5/5

This cookbook is worth it just for the very delicious spinach enchiladas with almond red sauce. Then there is goat chees ravioli with ginger cream sauce, many wonderful recipes with polenta (including polenta and gorgonzola "pizza"), and several sophisticated brunch recipes. The whole cookbook, in fact, is full of sophisticated recipes, recipes that are so good that I can accept the fact that slow cooks like me sometimes need more than 30 minutes for some of the recipes.

Once you start to read Gould's books, you just can't stop!!!
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
Once long ago I picked up a ragged looking copy of Jumper from a library sale and decided that I should give that book a chance. I loved it!!! No other auther seems to tell a story like Gould does. Just recently I read HELM and it was great! Just like Gould's other books I did not know what to expect. The fighting scenes were wonderful and seem to paint themselves across my mind. I cannot wait for his next book!
