This is a great book, easy to read and tells it like it is from playing sports to changing your life from playing the games. I have always thought of life just being one big game, some know how to play and others just haven't found the play book. Kilmeade takes you on a tour of people that have entered the game of sports and found that sports was the foundation of there success. A must read- Larry Hobson- Author- The Day Of The Rose

Summer Sisters - book cover picture

Judy Blume is just so easy to read, and Summer Sisters is no exception! This book moves so quickly, and is filled with such realistic dialogue, I believe most people will have a hard time putting it down! The book is about two friends, one beautiful, wild, and outgoing; the other, reserved, conservative, and plain in comparison, who become best friends one summer, and whose lives, forever after, become intertwined. It is a great "coming of age" story - filled with emotions and SEX, SEX, SEX! Thoroughly entertaining, yet haunting; I found myself becoming totally immersed in these people's lives! The one problem? I was so disappointed when I finished the book! (And yes - I also believe the book would make a sensational movie; utilizing both a younger and more mature set of actresses, to play the parts of Vix and Caitlin)!

An Unusual Mystery...

The Eagle Catcher (Arapaho Indian Mysteries) - book cover picture

An unlikely couple of sleuths team up in this mystery to uncover murder and theft. Father John O'Malley, a Jesuit priest at the Wind River Indian Reservation, gets "his nose into other people's business" and so begins a caper that already has three sequels. His alter-ego help comes from Vicky, the Arapaho Lawyer, surnamed Woman Alone. Their disparent skills become all that is needed in finding out the murderer and the one responsible for the great land theft against the Arapaho Nation. But what makes this unusual novel so likeable is its rich respect for two faiths and cultures: the Native-Americans and the Jesuit priests. Coel provides a synthesis of faith in the midst of an entertaining mystery and that is talent. And it makes the reading of the tale a multi-level experience of pleasure.

Radical Honesty : How To Transform Your Life By Telling The Truth - book cover picture

Forget "self-help" - try Radical Honesty! Having read it, I finally understand why none of the (hundreds of!) "self-help" books I've read ever made any lasting difference - they work on and try to improve the self, but the self is the whole problem! I am utterly, utterly convinced that 'radical honesty' is the key to living a life of *real* joy, and to being your true 'Being'. Since reading it, and putting Brad Blanton's ideas into practice, I have felt more alive than anytime I can remember since childhood. I wish the whole world would read it!

The Lady Who Liked Clean Restrooms: The Chronicle of One of the Strangest Stories Ever to Be Rumoured About Around New York - book cover picture

My book group read this and though it was certainly the shortest book we have read, it led to the longest discussion we've ever had. The protagonist is a women whose husband leaves her for a younger woman. Because of this and some bad decisions on her part she loses her house, country club membership, friends, kids...status in her community and ends up living in a small room in New York, working at a store for minimum wage. She is miserable. Through a very unusual series of events, she regains her wealth only to realize that it's not the money that made her happy, it was her former life and she can not have that back. The ending leaves you thinking for a long, long time. This book is written as the woman thinks and Donleavy's writing style is hard to get used to at first. It is almost as if you are inside her head. This is a book to pass along to friends so that you can talk about it for hours.

His Dark Materials Trilogy (The Golden Compass; The Subtle Knife; The Amber Spyglass) - book cover picture

My brother first got this book for christmas in 97, he was never into books and it took him a year to get round to reading it. He said it was really good so I decided to have a read, and qute simply this is the best book I have ever read. Having finished all three I can say this trilogy is an amazing read and far better than similar books such as Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter.
The book adresses so many different aspects that younger children may find it a bit overwelming, but for the more mature youth there is intregue, mystery, fighting, you name it, its here.
These books are a must read and no mistake!!

The Hot Zone : A Terrifying True Story - book cover picture

The Hot Zone sparked my interest in following the issue of potential germ outbreaks here and abroad. It is a stunning, terrifying account of an outbreak of disease described so vividly I couldn't stop reading. This was the first book I ever read where I simply could not put it down. Preston has a remarkable talent for taking complicated scientific issues and explaining them in language that is not only easy to understand, but engaging.

Great book! If you like suspense, twists and turns, theoriesand a premise that makes you think without being too overly stuffy orscientific, and page-turing (long into the night!) sci-fi/adventures-read this book! I started this on my lunch hour and didn't realize until it was too late that I was 45 min. over my lunchtime. I read this book 2 years ago and it sticks with me to this day as one of my top 15-maybe top 10-books.

Harry Cat's Pet Puppy - book cover picture

As a teacher, I have used Selden's " Cricket in Times Square" for years as a read aloud to my students. It was only recently that I began searching for more books by Mr. Selden. Harry Cat's Pet Puppy is delightful. I know my students are going to fall in love with Huppy the poor puppy that Harry found cast on a dark and dirty New York street. Needless to say Harry takes him home to the drainpipe that he shares with Tucker the mouse. Harry and Tucker find that having a growing dog can make life in Times Square Subway station a bit difficult. This book uses tender humor to show that pets can bring wonderful joy and loads of responsibility to our lives. As always, Selden threads all the grand and sometimes terrible emotions of friendship throughout the book. Read and enjoy!
