Kiss the Girls - book cover picture

Are names are Liz, and Laura. I am 14 years old , and Laura is 13. We have both read Kiss the Girls. We have both come to the conclusion that it is one of the best books ever written. Even though we have never been through any type of situation even close to that which the character in the book experiance, we were still deeply moved by this book. We experienced many different emotions from anger, to sympathy. James Patterson really captures the suspence, and keeps you hooked till the end. There are times at which you want to throw the book across the room, but you can't because you HAVE to keep reading. We highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good book. We congradulate James Patterson on this book, and would like to add that we both are reading more of the novels written by him. Thank you.

Dragon's Lair (Ballantine Reader's Circle) - book cover picture

This excellent mystery series now has a third book, and I feel it is the best of them. In this one, our hero is in Wales and Shropshire, which we Brother Cadfael fans remember fondly. Once again we have a crackling good story, very well told, with sharp characters, even those who have minor parts. There are fictional and actual historical persons involved, and it's so seamlessly done that you can't really tell the difference. I look forward expectantly to the next book to learn of the further adventures of Justin de Quincy!

Harry Is Back! Yea!

Book title: Lost Light

Lost Light - book cover picture

Harry Bosch is no longer carrying a badge, but he is determined to get answers to a mystery he was never able to solve while on the job. This is a tightly woven investigative novel. At 360 pages, there is no fat and no filler. As always, Connelly's characters spring effortlessly to life without a lot of tedious background information. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It held my interest from page one until the end. I was afraid that City Of Bones was going to be the last of the Harry Bosch books. I hope there are still more coming.

read this, forget about the movie

Jurassic Park - book cover picture

It was very interesting to read. For me, it was two night's worth of reading. the characters were well designed and left room for interpretation. I found that had a very good ending. It was enjoying to read exactly why the dinosaurs were the way that they were and how they would react if they were ever brought into this world. It was interesting to read about the raptors and their way of hunting. The detail within the novel shows that Crichton put forth a lot of effort to bring about a good novel. His plot is good. Everything that was good in this novel was destroyed by the movie.

Left Hand of God - book cover picture

This is one of my favorites. Even though it's been written in 1950, it still gets to me.A young pilot, Carmody, crashes in the middle of China. He's rescued by a warlord (aka bandit), and forced to be his second in command. After some time the protagonist manages to escape discuised as a priest. When he arrives at a mission, where he had hoped to end the maskerade, the people address him as a priest from the very beginnning. Since he has started out acting as a cleryman, he cannot very well drop the pretence later on, and is forced to be Gods left hand. The story tells of the internal changes of the ex-bandit, ex-pilot working and living as a priest, rediscovering the believes of his childhood. And then the warlord arrives to reclaim his man ...It's a wonderful composed story, with a high pace, tension, old fassioned adventure, but also introspection, humor, tenderness, and philosophy about the nature of man.

Return to Vietnam

Up Country - book cover picture

This is another whiz-bang yarn by Nelson DeMille. Extremely well researched and vivid in its descriptions. As Vietnam vet who experienced many of the locations he folds into the story, it was often a step-by-step returning to the places where lot of us lost our "virginity", and many lost everything else. He uses the hard language of a guy who has "been there - done-that", and his characters are completely believeable. The story flows smoothly to its exciting and surprising ending.
If you pick it up, you won't want to put it down.

The Long and Hilarious Road

Book title: Honeymoon with My Brother : A Memoir

Honeymoon with My Brother : A Memoir - book cover picture

This is the funniest memoir I have read since Richard Feyman and Ralph Leighton's collaborations ("Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!", "What Do You Care What Other People Think?", "Tuva or Bust!"). I read the account of the brothers' African bus trip out loud to my wife, and I could only get out a few words at a time; I was laughing so hard and was so out of breath that she nearly had to administer CPR!!!

To be sure, this collection of essays is strung together with some fairly serious subplots, but Wisner spins things in such a positive light, that you just have to admire his optimism. I lived vicariously through these guys, and it's all I can do to keep myself from also selling everything and hitting the road.

I can't wait for the next installment!!!

Rich Dad, Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money--That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not! - book cover picture

I have always wondered what causes generations of lemmings to go through the rat race called middle class, while other pepople seem to prosper in the same environment. This book has the answer. Robert lays out simple but powerful concepts that can be used by anyone who is looking for them. Anyone who would claim that this book is diluted is firmly in the grasp of the Paycheck Mentality. Weaving these concepts into a story is pure genius. Without the story, you would dismiss the concepts as obvious. This is a must read if you want to break the generational mediocrity that many of us come from.
