The Carbohydrate Addict's Diet: The Lifelong Solution to Yo-Yo Dieting - book cover picture

I've never been severely overweight and never more than 7-10 pounds but I have tried every diet out there--Zone, SugarBusters, Fit for Life, Atkins... AND I work out 7 days a week.I was on the Zone for about 6 months and lost a ton of weight at first and then eventually it all piled back on (without changing a thing) and I switched to this diet. After only two weeks I am even two pounds less than my "goal weight" and I did it SO EASILY. I love the "reward meal." I tested as having "light" carbohydrate addiction but it has still worked for me. More energy too! I feel great! Even if I don't lose another pound I will never give up this way of eating.

Three Farmers on Their Way to a Dance - book cover picture

To call this book a great read would merely debase it,Power's prose electrifies and moves & his writing dazzles us with it's brilliance...Compelling literature, the writing is seamless and the effect devestating. In short, powerful, intricate, superbly constructed and immensely intellectually satisfying.According to me it ranks up there with the best of his work(The Goldbug Variations and Galatea 2.2

Lovely book

Ozma of Oz (Wonderful Oz Books) - book cover picture

Firstly, if you are new to the Oz series, read The Marvelous Land of Oz before reading this book. Marvelous Land of Oz is what directly follows the original, infamous Oz book.
Believe me they just keep getting better.
This is a lovely book to read aloud to children of all ages. I highly reccomend all of the Oz books for their amusing, imaginitve characters(in this book, The Wheelings and Billinia are introduced) , their fantastical situations (trees with lunch boxes full of food, talking chickens, a shipwreak, all in this one), sweet plot and storylines. These books still stand the test of time (written over 100 years ago!)for good reason.
This book really sets the tone for the rest of the books to follow and in my opinion the best. A must read for every family.

Keep to the Code

Book title: The Da Vinci Code
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
The Da Vinci Code - book cover picture

The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown is a magical thriller. Brown pulls you through his well written book by shifting plots frequently. He keeps you wondering, who is the next target, what is going on over there, or when will these situations fall together?
Brown's manner of writing, itself, is enough to claim and hold your interest. The short chapters keep you thinking where he could go next in his amazing story. Robert Langdon, a professor and writer, and Sophie Neveu, a cryptographer, must decipher the codes given to them from the scene of a murder in the Louvre, the famous museum and home to the Mona Lisa.
I recommend this book to anyone who has a few spare days and is in the mood for this fast-paced thriller. You will catch yourself searching for answers to the puzzle in books, on the internet, and from random people or close friends. I really enjoyed Brown's brisk-paced storyline and hope you do the same.

A Scary Preview of the future of American Society

Fahrenheit 451 - book cover picture

I first read this book after my mother, a senior english teacher, was getting ready to have her students read Farenheit 451. I immediately fell in love with the book. In the almost 10 years since I fist read the book, I have read it over and over again. While in college, I wrote a paper for a Lit class showing the how Bradbury's science fiction is slowly becoming science fact (i.e. seashells= walkman. Its scary to see how a book written in 1953, as a work of fiction, is becoming reality. If you want to know what I mean, then read "Farenheit 451" and see for yourself. It is a definite eye opener that sends chills thorugh my body everytime I read it.

We Were Soldiers Once... and Young: Ia Drang--The Battle That Changed the War in Vietnam - book cover picture

Easily the best Vietnam War book written. Probably the most personal account of battle from the perspective of the individual soldier. Hal Moore and Joe Galloway avoid the temptation to add to the politics of this war and simply write a stunning, frightening, inspiring story of common men fighting for each other and their own survival. Beyond the striking descriptions of close battle, this book provides an interesting perspective of how the Army adopted the use of helicopters as air cavalry and air mobile operations. I'm a career military officer and avid military history reader and haven't found another book like it - I routinely recommend this book to anyone who wants to feel battle in all its elements. In my top 5 all time best military history books. If you like this book, read "With the Old Breed" about the Marines in WWII Pacific.

Athenaze : An Introduction to Ancient Greek (Book 1) - book cover picture

This book, which teaches ancient or classic Greek in the Attic dialect, is a well rounded and progressive introduction to not only the language but also Greek culture. While some knowledge of a foreign language would help, it isn't necessary for this program. While I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone with a desire to learn ancient Greek, I must warn the timid that this book is not for them because, as with all serious endeavors, this course requires hard work. Nevertheless, it is undoubtedly the best thing going in ancient Greek textbooks.

Dean Koontz: A Writer's Biography - book cover picture

I believe that this biography is certainly one of the best this year, perhaps even more than that. the sheer scope and depth and overall undertaking was done remarkably well with a great sense of style and ease. Ramsland does an excellent work here, turning out something that is both inspiring and informative, wthout being prying and corruptive. A work on Koontz has been long forthcoming, I can't praise this enough.

Yes, Savannah is that strange....

Midnight In the Garden of Good and Evil - book cover picture

This story is a good read about some of the wild and wealthy who lived and died in Savannah in the 1980's. My parents live in Savannah, if you have ever spent anytime in that area you would know that it is a dead on account of the people who live there... Everything from the kooky insect guy (Driggers) to the Voo Doo which goes on "religiously" just over the Savannah river in South Carolina. As usual the book and movie share the same name and thats about it (read: the movie stinks the book doesn't).
