Mary Jo Putney never disappoints. Her latest combines romance, mystery, New Age concepts, and a rousing story of a troupe of travelling actors who meet up with a desperate nobleman who's running away from a sentence of death. Truly uplifting, with a strong spiritual tone. A tour de force from the pen of one of America's most popular, bestselling writers of historical romance.

Junk is one of the best books I've ever read.. well, actually it's THE best book I've ever read. I started off disliking Melvin Burgess's style of writing, but now I see it as it is, nothing but genious. The way each chapter is written from another character's point of view is amazing, and the characters are painted fantastically. I found myself laughing out loud, or standing up and screaming at the inanimate book when things went wrong! I completely fell in love with Tar, and I felt as if Gemma was sitting next to me and reading these words to me... plus I have a new found love of dandelions!! If you don't have time to read this book, get time, because it may do to you what it did to me.. it gave me an entirely different outlook on life.. I wouldn't say it put me off drugs at all, but it certainly was honest, rather than just telling me "All drugs are bad. Never do drugs." If you have any interest in anything at all, then read this book!! JUNK ROX!!

Cornwell is at the top of his game with this one. I have been ok with the lastest Conrwell books; but I felt that Gallows Theif and The Grail Quest serise have been missing something. Here Cornwell has found whatever whatever it was that had been missing a good story with strong and complexcated charecters.
It is interesting to see as the book goes on who conflictred Uthred is over everything should he fit the English who are the people of his birth or should he fight the Danes who treated him like one of their own? Also there is a large amount of dry wit here that has been missing in most of Bernard Cornwell's books since the last of the Warlord serise.
Overall this book is a promising trend in the writting of this author and I hope that this book is part of a larger serise.

Great Book, Great Series

I thought this book was fantastic. The whole series is great, it deals with a lot of things we can relate to, like relationships and everything else people go through when they're in high school. And these are the only young adult books I've ever read that dealt with religion so openly. This book is probably my favorite in the series. I love all of the surprise it throws in, especially with Peter and Jenna!

A touching esoteric story...

Alice Sebold has a gift with language. Her writing is fluid and enchanting. This is no ordinary prosaic story, and as such should be read with a little suspension of disbelief. Once you have fully entered the story, you will not want it to end. Besides, it offers those of us who have lost someone a new perspective on grief--the grief that those who die feel at not having been able to live they life that they had dreamed of. I have recommended this book to several picky readers and have not heard a complaint yet.

Having lived in Massachusetts for most of my life, and specifically in Gloucester for thirteen years, I was enthralled by the authentic ATMOSPHERE of the place captured in this book. I was there during the year of this particular storm and I know these people, contrastingly shy and rowdy.I read the comments by reviewers and some say it's boring. Hardly. However, they may be referring to the inscrutable quality of the picture Junger paints both of the players and the place. Cape Ann, Massachusetts has a mysterious "veil" over it at times, not unlike the shades of sleet grey, bracken and bottle green that envelope it during its terrible, killing seasons: the fall hurricane months, the nor'east winters, the early, false springs. Actually, for those of us who can afford to stay in our snug homes and watch the spectacles, it can be gorgeous, but for men who must risk their lives to earn their livings, it's treacherous. A masterpiece by Junger.

Very Amusing

I chose to read this book for a Children's Lit. class in college. It was one of the most amusing alphabet books I found. The pictures are absolutely great. The book contains tons of volcabulary words (ie. ferocious, jabbering, and quizzical) for those who already know their ABCs. It could be used in the classroom by having kids make up their own monsters using letters assigned to them. Then they could all be compiled to make an alphabet book written and illustrated by the whole class.Overall, I loved this book. Kids will have a lot of fun with this one!

Pullman creates a wonderful storyline, easy to get involved in, and connects his whole idea to the very ideas that fuel Paradise Lost. There are so many fantastic literary connections: the character fighting god is so human and easy to identify with, the angels are so unquestioningly loyal, their logic is circular, the battle is to take place in the north, and the dust is such a temptation. I can't wait to see what conclusion Pullman draws on the fight between good and evil- like Paradise Lost, his main characters aren't exactly on God's side.

After reading Kate and Jim McMullan's delightful, I STINK, my children and I can't pass a garbage truck without smiling. This totally original book takes us into a whole new world of trash. Readers will relish every word uttered by the tough-talking garbage truck while falling in love with his adorable face. My children begged me to read and re-read the alphabet soup pages--a look at what every garbage truck slurps up in an average day. This is the perfect gift for children of all ages. My family anxiously awaits the next book by this very talented husband and wife (illustrator/author) team.
