Here comes the Cavalry!
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
Not, of course the cavalry of old, but the modern hi-tech
US Army Cavalry using tanks, armored vehicles, and state-of-
the-art helicopters and weapons systems. The work is written
in typical Tom Clancy style. You can practically hear him
humming the Star-Spangled Banner while writing the book: a
patriot at heart! He gives the reader a guided tour through
modern weapons systems. He interviews General Franks (not, I
repeat, not a new brand of frankfurters), the one who led
the cavalry charge of armor in the Gulf War. There are some
insights into the life and training of modern-day cavalry
men. A must for military buffs and technology freaks. Almost
makes you wish you were American!

"Provence" and "Tuscany" in the Caribbean
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
Along the "Provence" and "Tuscany" genre of books, this anecdotal book takes the reader through a year of dealing with natural and human challenges as the Blanchards try running a restaurant on the upscale island of Anguilla. Having been a visitor to the island many times, I suppose I was somewhat inclined to be predisposed to enjoy the book, but then again I could also have been more critical. It's a pretty quick read, full of local characters, and makes you realize what kinds of things you're up against when you try and do something like this. You'll want to make plane reservations to see the island for yourself when you've finished reading it. It's light reading, perfect for a cold winter day as it transports you to an island paradise that is so idyllic in the midst of today's hectic urban world.

The best "art of Star Wars" book
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
Ok, I'm right now too short on words, but I have to say something... the Art of Attack of the Clones book is the best one in the series... probably the best designed one and the most comprehensive, containing images and descriptions, AND in the other section the full movie script. This hasn't been done before, adding several points to the book. The other books in the series only had or the descriptions or the script.
Great, diverse artwork. I just hope that Art from Revenge would be as nice as this one.

A great one for younger audiences.
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
All the Emberly books are worthwhile, and this one is definitely skewed toward the younger side of the 4-8 age group. Even younger than four will enjoy this. If they can hold a pencil and draw dots and lines, they can make drawings. In fact, younger kids might enjoy just making the thumbprints and watching you turn them into people and animals.Older kids may grow tired of it quickly but that's okay, becuse the Green, Orange, Red and Purple Emberly books are for them!

Better than the rest of the drivel
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
The Death of Justice is about so much more than O.J. - or the lawyers or the judge or the media. It's an intellectual examination, in a reader-friendly style, that breaks this famous trial down into its component parts so as to examine what went right and what went wrong, what could have been done differently, and what should be done in the future. It's also about tolerance and learning to see things from the other guy's perspective. I found it to be much more important than the other drivel out there, but then again I don't consider an intelligent discussion of both sides of an issue to be boring, or liberal, or conservative. It just is, and we should do more of it.

Executive Chef

It has been said that the true test of a any work, whether it be a piece of art, music or a book is the test of time. This volume has done just that! First written almost 100 years ago these recipes are just as relavent today as they were in Escoffier's time. Please be aware that this book is not for the beginner. The author assumes that the reader has developed the skills and methods that are needed in any kitchen. I have worked professionally as a chef for 25 years and assure you that this work will always be on my bookshelf. When it comes to classic French cuisine this work is indispensible.

I've got to defend this book....
Rating: 5/5

After reading the reviews on this page, I was a little hesitant to buy this book, but I did it anyway. This is the first Arthur C. Clarke book I've ever read. Yes, some of the points do clash with parts of the other books. But, if you read the Author's Note section, you'll see that the author acknowledges this, saying that the stories are meant as stories taking place in the same universe, as opposed to one continuing story. While it is a little frustrating to follow, the best thing to do for this series is to treat each book as a stand - alone, instead of as parts of a series, or to read them backwards as I did, which really is not that confusing. Altogether, I found this book highly enjoyable, and I consider it a good introduction to Mr. Clarke's writing, and not at all what I expected after reading these reviews.

Akiki Does It Again !

As an elementary school teacher, I am always on the "look out" for books that will enthrall my students. Aliki never disappoints. Wild and Wooly Mammoths is an intersting and enjoyable book. My students loved the beautiful illustrations and the easy to read format. The book is packed with fascinating facts and details. My students looked forward to reading time and asked to read other books by Aliki. We bought class sets of Mummies Made in Egypt and also The Medieval Feast. Children simply love these books and the wonderful illustrations. All my students voted Wild and Wooly Mammoths as a class favorite. I recommend this book for all elementary students.

A strong entry in the series
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
I really enjoyed this book. There is not a lot I can say in detail. Savvy readers of the previous books will find themselves unavoidably reaching premature conclusions if I say anything other than this was a very good book. As has been stated in the press, this book is a turning point for the series. It maintains all of the familiar elements while continuing to grow in a constantly maturing fashion. I hope you all enjoy the book as much as I did.
