The Shining (Signet) - book cover picture

Definatly my favorties Stephen King book yet. The description is great, and even the parts when nothing is happening, are well written and interesting to read. King managed to write a book with a great plot, and no loose stings hanging when it was done. Everything fit together like a great big jigsaw puzzle straight out of hell. Oh, and for all those King fans, skip over the movie, and see the six hour mini series instead. It stays true to the book. One things for sure, if you don't LOVE this book, you're loopy!!

Robert B. Parker's Best Spenser Novel Yet

Book title: Small Vices
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Mass Market Paperback
Small Vices - book cover picture

I've read all of the Spenser novels and avidly await the next one. This novel, as far as I'm concerned, is the best one yet. It shows how vulnerable Spenser and Susan are, but how they triumph together. With the help of Hawk, of course. This novel makes the reader want Spenser to exact revenge and yet, allows us to understand the course he takes. I'm glad the "alleged" perpetrator of the crime doesn't do a swift turnaround at the end and become a somewhat tarnished good guy. A great read and one I couldn't put down (although I must admit, all of the Spenser novels are like that with me)

The Moon Under Her Feet - book cover picture

I can't even begin to sing this book's praises. As a former Catholic the book battered down my points of view which stem from years of Mass. While it is fiction, its beauty and logic shocked my senses free of traditional explanations and immersed them in such an experience, that I could not help but adore it and read it again and again.I encourage everyone to read this powerful story. It comforts us who live somewhere between those two religious worlds. But regardless of your belief system, this book is a necessity. Brightest Blessings and Bravo to Clysta Kinstler for this eye-opening treasure.

Roses are red and violets are blue...

Book title: Violets Are Blue
Rating: 5/5

Violets Are Blue - book cover picture

Watch out Cross they're out to get you! "Roses are Red" set the stage earlier in 2001 by revealing who the Mastermind is. "Violets are Blue" kept me suspended in raw tension. By introducing vampires to the mix with another grisly murder case and the Mastermind so close, Cross has never been so paranoid. Patterson elluded to the retirement of Dr Cross... I sincerely hope this is not the case as Cross is an extraordinary character as are the secondary characters as well. If you enjoy psychological thrillers and vampires you'll be in heaven with "Violets are Blue". (It would probably be helpful to have read "Roses are Red" before)

Heartland #01 : Coming Home (Heartland) - book cover picture

This book is so awsome! It's very real and moving, and it's not all prissy "Oh, I just ride horses ALL day and I'm just so happy happy happy!!" It's the exact opposite. Now, don't get me wrong. They do ride and love horses, and they aren't depressed or anything, it's just there is seriousness in the book. It's about a girl named Amy who's mom owned a horse santuary to rescue physicly and emotionally scarred horses. Then, when her mother dies, Amy has to cope with her sudden change in life and how to make the best of them. I have the first 4 books and have asked for the 5th and 6th for Christmas. A must read for all.

The Happiest Baby on the Block : The New Way to Calm Crying and Help Your Newborn Baby Sleep Longer - book cover picture

This book is at the top of my list for every parent-to-be I know. It's the instruction manual we wished came along with our newborns. While our friends worked through the first 3 months with their colicky baby, Dr. Karp's loving guidance and the 5 Ss gave us a bit of peace and a chance to experience the joy of the 4th trimester. Now, if only he'd write the "Happiest Parent of a 3 year old" book.

Keroppi: The Best Friends Book (Sanrio) - book cover picture

(I'm 13 years old) When I was in kindergarten, my best friend and I filled out this book. I found it just a couple of weeks ago in my desk and read through it. I laughed histerically at the things we wrote in there!! The book is filled with questions for you and your friend to answer, like questions about your favorite things at the time. I was so happy that I had kept it, and I know it is something that I will treasure forever.

This is one of the most gripping novels I have read in years

Book title: The Vulture Fund

The Vulture Fund - book cover picture

This is one of those rare books that are full of different characters and scenarios yet don't bore you with pages of briefing notes explaining who, what and how different people and events work. The book started off with an action scene and never let up all the way through. While the end was predictable it was achieved in a nail-biting way. In my opinion Stephen Frey is a brilliant author who will eventually top the "best-seller" of thriller lists. I should point out that my pet hate in thrillers is when the author allows the hero/heroine either to die or spend the rest of his miserable life hinding from the all-powerful avenging force. Mr Frey does not do this.

Tales for the Midnight Hour: Stories of Horror - book cover picture

'Tales For The Midnight Hour' is a book of 17 scary stories, aimed at children but can be read by any age. I originally read the book after borrowing it from a library here in England, but a few years later, I had trouble finding it. (It was an American import). None of our shops had it and the library had got rid of it. I ordered an import of it from a book store, and received it a few weeks later (at this time I wasn't aware of Amazon).
The book is still as good, I'm 16 now. The stories are very eerie and well worth a read, especially 'The Furry Collar', 'The Black Velvet Ribbon' and 'The Attic Door'.
Buy the book - you won't be disappointed.
For your information, there were some follow-ups to the book:
More Tales For the Midnight Hour, Even More Tales for the Midnight Hour and Still More tales for the Midnight Hour.

Much Better, and Different, Than the Movie

Book title: Fight Club
Rating: 5/5

Fight Club - book cover picture

While the actual film might've been too much for the masses to take, this book is even more so. I wish I had read the book before the movie, because it was interesting to see how things had changed from paper to celluloid. The screenwriter of the film, Jim Uhls, did a fine job adapting the story, but because much of the material was terribly contorversial, it had to be toned down. This book is terrific is you love scathing satire and terrific and past-paced storytelling. Palahniuk's way of telling the story is mesmerizing. It intrigued me to see how he broke up how the narrator thought and how we reacted to situations. This only helps to set up the great story line and the terrific climax. In short, nothing in this book is a cop-out or meant to be offensive. It is simply a satire of how we live our daily lives. This novel is terrific from start to finish, and much better than the movie, if you can believe that.
