Has a great depiction of the male body as it should be seen.

Black Book - book cover picture

Mapplethorpe, with his great photographic potenial produced a riviting book that dignifies the male, black body to the next zenith. He was able to capture the very essence of what it is to be a male and to be viewed as "God's" art or creation and not a male "pig." This book demonstrates the power of the camera when the beholder knows what he/she is doing. The images in this book do not apal me, afend me nor do they disgust me. I enjoyed reading and flipping through this book as a ligitimate art reviewer and as a academic scholar.

A Few Laughs, A Few Tears, I Enjoyed It Very Much

Book title: The Wonder Spot
Rating: 5/5

The Wonder Spot - book cover picture

This is a book where the reviews are very, very mixed. On most mixed review books people seem to either love it or hate it. Here there's a third category of "it's OK, not great, but definitely not terrible, it's OK." I fall into the love it category.

I'm male, not a young girl like Sophie. But my daughter just moved to live in New York City. My daughter, like Sophie, has had to live in a world she never knew. (New York certainly fits into that category.) They both have had to begin to understand about aging, even the death of close relatives. The schoolgirl activities, loves, and small time life have been replaced with other, more adult past times.

Perhaps I'm reading too much into putting my own situation into Sophies, but a few laughs, a few tears and I enjoyed the book very much.

A Surprising and Beautiful Read

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (Sisterhood of Traveling Pants) - book cover picture

When I bought this book, I wasn't looking for great literature. As a sixteen-year-old bookaholic, this looked like just the thing to brighten up a dismal school week: fun and fluffy. Well, fun it was, but this was anything but fluff. The stories of each of the girls are moving and well-written. I found myself engrossed in Brashare's simple prose and really caring what happened to each of the characters. The first couple of chapters didn't really reflect the whole book, so if you start it and dont' like it, don't give up. This book moved me profoundly and brought tears to my eyes at several points. All of the emotions before me on the page were ones that I could relate to. If you're a teenage to HAVE to read this. If you're not, I would still recommend because it is an amazing novel that rivals the best of literary fiction.

One of the best in the series!

Book title: Chosen Prey
Rating: 5/5

Chosen Prey - book cover picture

I have read Rules of Prey, Chosen Prey and Mortal Prey. I like this one alot as it has the characters including the villain make mistakes -- more like real life!! Although we know who the murderer is right from the start it is very interesting to read his development, meet his mother and try to figure how his mind works.

Lucas and Weather's relationship is developing and re-gluing which is an emotional sidebar that adds to Davenport's character and development. Also, I like the different types of working relationships he has with his peers, boss, the media, etc. All serve to round out his character even more in this book.

Some surprises and some suspense and some romance -- if you like that kind of read you will enjoy this book.

A wonderful, book yet sad and full of meaning

Book title: Indio (Great Episodes)

Indio (Great Episodes) - book cover picture

Indio was a wonderful book. Ipa and her cousin go through many emotional and cultuarl experiences. Eventhough Ipa-tah-chi has so much taken away she still holds on to the hope her villiage will survive and thet everything will go back to normal. It tells another side of the story when the Spanish conquistadores invaded the American south-west. I love how it does'nt put anything in softer terms. It tells how Xucate (ipa's cousin ) was treated by the head of the miners. He raped her. You learn that the history books do not tell how the natives were treated terribly in the 15th & 16th centurys. Well I recommend this book to 12-16 year-olds. It is truly worthy of five stars.

A STRONG ending!

Letters from the Inside - book cover picture

Despite what some reviews state, the ending was VERY powerful. Much, much stronger than it would have been had Marsden simply answered all of the questions posed at the end. The not knowing is what has the book remain in your mind for a long time afterward. Thank you again, John Marsden, for all of the brilliant books you keep providing us with! I loved the ending. It was one of the best endings I have ever read. It was brave and disturbing and amazing.

Los Pollitos Dicen / The Baby Chicks Sing - book cover picture

My daughter enjoys looking at the pictures in this cute little book. The traditional nursery rhymes that Spanish children usually learn are there. I can't really complain about this book. I don't think you'll have a very good time with this if you aren't proficient in Spanish enough to say the words. (Written Spanish is fairly easy to read. You may not know what you said, but it's pretty easy to pronounce.) I like this book and would recommend it for culture if nothing else.

I Heard the Owl Call My Name - book cover picture

Unbelievably moving and personal...this book is for those people who like to read books with deep meaning, are willing to connect with the Indian characters without bias, and are willing to put all of their concentration into it. If you are forced to read this book, as I see several other reviewers were, you will need to get the obligation out of your head before you can truly see the amazing qualities of this book, and this I believe is true with any book. It is sad for me to see that this wonderful book could be given one star by so many...open your heart and you will love it.

I Am a Bunny (Golden Sturdy Book) - book cover picture

When my 14 year old daughter was little, this was the book she had to have read to her when she went to bed. It was read to her so many times, that by the time she was 3 she had the whole story memorized - and many people thought she could already read! Then, it became the staple for my son. Nine years later, I'm expecting my third child, and have to find a new copy of this book for this baby as it's become a family tradition to read all about Nicholas and his adventures.
