Hard to put down
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
I felt compelled to write after reading so many of the bad reviews. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and had a hard time putting it down. Evan 's characterization of Grace and Annie is excellent. The only negative comment I have about the book is in regard to the two "quickie" love scenes. These love scenes are out of place and read as if they were written by a totally different author.

Just like the movie.
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
Harris is such an effective writer that when you create the scenes in your head, they end up looking just like the movie, even if you have not seen it. The only thing that Harris is better at than writing, is thinking. Anyone who is capable of creating a character like Dr. Hannibal Lecter through imagination and manipulation of prose, deserves your full attention ... and you won't regret giving it.

Simply Enlightening.
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
This book is accessible to any serious undergraduate, and has the potential, I think, of improving the intellectual lives of its students.I have just finished my first read and have worked only a few of the problems, but I promise you one thing: this book will take you from Euclid to Kant, from the ordinary to the exotic, and you will enjoy the ride. After turning the last page, you will look up to a universe more grand than before. As my math studies went from the earlier to the slightly more sophisticated, I often felt that something was missing, and I had to work really hard to compensate for those gaps. This book maintains its continuity throughout. It is articulate and coherent. It maintains what I like to call a "logical continuum."I recommend it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I am. (And no, I have no connection with the author. :)

Somewhere, Theodor Geisel is laughing
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
The good doctor is most certainly laughing at the many "interpretations" of this book. After reading Madhaus's review I could only think that he must never have read the Occultic interpretation involving the Ego, Vedic texts, the Chakras, and all that jazz. Or the more practical insistence that the book is an instruction book for sales people in being persistent with reluctant customers. It's a kid's book, OK?
My 3-year-old son likes the book and my father-in-law loves reading it to him. In his interpretation, Sam's "customer" is stubborn and angry almost to the point of violence which seems to keep my son's attention extremely well.
Supposedly, this story is the product of a friendly bet between Geisel and Bennett Cerf that he could not write an entire book using only 50 words. True or not, this anecdote is much more interesting to me than some of the constructions of deep, hidden meanings with which our enlightened friends continue to plague and belabor us.

Practical Usability
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
A practical Web design usability guide, "Don't Make Me Think!" is based on empirical observation not exhaustive statistics. Steve Krug's five years of usability consulting and testing are distilled down to this thin yet gem-filled how-to. Krug observed how people actually use the Web rather than how we *think* they use it, gleaning key usability guidelines. Most folks can't afford a full-blown usability consult, but they can afford to buy a $35 book. This book shows you how to conduct your own usability tests on the cheap.Easy on the eyes, and full of Krug's trademark humor, this book is a classic. Highly recommended. From WebReference.com.

A Fun, Heart-Warming Story !!
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
This book was a pleasure to read. Although it is set in the Middle Ages, the hero faces many universal themes. He deals with a typical teen's embarassment of his parents, he dreams of being famous and powerful, and he also gets scared and lonely. Tymmon's journey is filled with many unforgettable characters and many funny situations. There are some serious issues here as well, such as the need for a person to accept who he is without worrying what others think. I would reccommend this book to any aged person who likes young adult literature. This book is definitely a keeper. Enjoy!

If only it had REALLY happened this way....
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
This is a dead-on satire of a history text, minus the "really dull parts" (treaties, dates, actual facts, etc) but including such gems as "Elizabeth, who was called the Virgin Queen because it was not considered a smart move to call her the Really Ugly Queen..." And so on, and on, and on...there's too much fun here to quote in detail, but I especially like the Founding Fathers' letter from Visa ("if you do not pay...we will regretfully have to return you to British rule"), the South's attempt to recruit help, pre-slavery ("Are you that special kind of guy or gal who's willing to work long hours for no pay...plus we get to keep your children?") and of course the Carter years ("A Relieved Nation Learns It Does Not Actually NEED a President"). This book -- like all Barry's work -- should be mandatory reading for anyone in imminent danger of taking life too seriously.
