Nightshade - book cover picture

This is the first time that I have read John Saul and I was really captured! Nightshade kept me interested all the way through. I must admit that the "bad guy" was revealed too soon for me. There was still a lot of book left to read and I didn't know how he was going to keep it going, but Saul managed to keep me interested until the end. And to speak of the end, it really turned around and shocked me. It changed my mind of him revealing the killer too early. Great Book, I have bought three more today!

Jhereg - book cover picture

This book is the start of a fantastic series...check it out. The part that I like about it the most was the fact that Vlad is a guy that does things that a character would do (i.e. Sex, taking a pee, going for pints, etc.) He isnt one of these guys that would make an ideal English Gentelmen character that things nothing of the opposite sex throughout 3 novels. The story is great, and the characted development goes along with it.

The Devil in the White City: Murder, Magic, and Madness at the Fair that Changed America - book cover picture

Reading this book makes you feel like you are a part of Chicago in 1891-94. The detailed description of the era as written by Erik Larson (sorry if I miss-spelled the name)is flawless. He seems to have a stranglehold on that particular time in history and makes the reader feel like, they are in that point in time. As a Chicago native born in 1963, this book provided a great, never explored vision of the City. I have and always will love the City of Chicago, but after reading this book, I will now know why.Keep up the good work.Sincerely,
A new fan, but not a fanatic (like Pendergast)

Favorite Works of William Blake: Three Full-Color Books : Songs of Innocence, Songs of Experience, the Marriage of Heaven and Hell - book cover picture

The full page colored illustrations included in this set are essential to your understanding of Blake's poetry. These illustrations were engraved by Blake himself to accompany each of his poems, and they really let you see the deeper meaning in much of his poetry. I would recommend these books to anyone who would like to take a deeper look into Blake's mind. Blake meant for his poetry and art to be viewed together, and many collections of Blake's poems these days do not include this thought provoking art.

Local Girls - book cover picture

I saw this book one afternoon and decided to buy it without reading the description of the book. Very rarely do I do that! In this case I came across a winner. The vignettes of Gretel and the fall of her family were fabulous and very relatable to almost everyone. I think we have all wondered if we will find true love, and have felt that alot of the problems in our lives could be traced to men! I appreciate it when an author who knows when to end a book and leave me wondering just a bit as to what happened (happily ever after?). I have found that sometimes when I am reading an author will write too much and I will loose interest. In closing this is one of the best books I have read in a long long time!

Jane's Thoughts on Number the Stars: Bravo Lois Lowery!( :

Book title: Number the Stars
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Hardcover
Number the Stars - book cover picture

The story is about a girl named Annemarie Johansen and her best friend Ellen Rosen. They are both coping with the challenges of WWII in Copenhagen,Denmark. Ellen is Jewish. Annemarie, her mother, and sister Kirsti are in charge of getting Ellen to safety in Sweden! Will they make it in time?
I like how Lois Lowery made the story exciting by putting Annemarie and Ellen in dangerous situations, for example, being found by Nazi Soldiers. In Order to survive they had to be brave and tell the Nazi's that they were not Jews(which is partly a lie)
The author could of possibly improved the story by making their times together more happy. So much sadness made a very distressing time period for everyone.
For me the message of the book is always come through for your friends especially if you believe it is the right thing to do.

Book title: Sympathy for the Devil
Rating: 5/5

Sympathy for the Devil - book cover picture

The book, Sypathy for the Devil, is about as honest a book as I have ever read. This is not a book about what a "great Killer I am". This simply tells the story of a man that changed in Vietnam because he had to to survive. Anderson is just telling readers how the war really was. I have read this book six times and highly recommend it for those who have been in the service, are in the service, or who will be in the service.

Absolutely the best urban fantasy around!

Book title: Moonheart
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
Moonheart - book cover picture

This is the best of the best, and one of the first in urban fantasy.Moonheart was the first De Lint book I ever read, and turned him immediately into a favorite author of mine. His
characters are diverse and likeable, female characters are
never wimps, and he weaves mythologies of several cultures
together deftly.I've been devouring books since I was a small child, and
my first taste of Moonheart sent me back to the bookstores,
special-ordering everything that could be acquired by De Lint.
If you enjoy fantasy fiction - the kind you can't put down,
Moonheart is a must-have!!

One of the Great Novels of This Century

Book title: Wolf Solent
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
Wolf Solent - book cover picture

The cumulative force of this novel is tremendous. The tragedy of "Wolf Solent" is the central tragedy of all lives: it is the tragedy of experience. Powys succeeds without force or melodrama, without wars or kings or suicides. His characters merely exist in the world, and are driven down by it, stripped of their illusions and "mythologies" (to borrow Wolf's phrase). And the writing is stunning. The book reads at times like a prose-poem, and Powys' descriptions of Dorset make one want to flee for the country. It is a towering achievement, and I cannot believe it took me so long to find it.

A GREAT BOOK I WAS SUPRISED I LOVED

Book title: Interview with the Vampire : Anniversary edition (The vampire chronicles)
Rating: 5/5

Interview with the Vampire : Anniversary edition (The vampire chronicles) - book cover picture

The book Interview with the Vampire is a book many said was not that good but I like books I should not read. The book was great. The charector Louis is very facinating and compasionate. Lestat is played as and evil vampire but if you read on in the Chornicals you will discover why Lestat does what he does. Claudia is so amazing many said she made them feal sad. I thought she was great and I wish what happenes to her did not, but I guess it was part of the plot. The movie is also really good. It does not really change from the book and Kristen Dunst who plays Claudia is so good at potraying Anne Rice's charectors that it makes you think it is truely Cluadia. READ THIS BOOK YOU WILL LOVE IT. ANNE RICE IS AMAZING.
