I decided to try this book after reading the "Stone Barrington" series (New York Dead, Dirt, Dead in the Water, and Swimming to Catalina) and thought it was great. I can't wait to move on to the next in this series....I'm sure there is much more to come! It was fun to experience his earlier work after the more recent, which is excellent also. Stuart Woods has a great way of keeping the plot alive by keeping you guessing.

Freak The Mighty (Scholastic Signature) - book cover picture

Freak the Mighty was a great book for kids of all ages to read. The two boys in it include Max and Kevin, who both have different disabilities, and they end up becoming best friends because they each have something the other one needs. Max, who is huge, needs to be smart and Kevin, who is a genius and physically unable to walk on his own, wants to be able to walk around normally. They join together and become Freak the Mighty. They have many interesting adventures together and even saved each others life. This book teaches lots of lessons like even if it feels like the world is against you, there is still a friend out there you can count on. This is an excellent book and I recommend everyone to read it.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Book 2) - book cover picture

Harry Potter is "Everyman's Man". There was not a chapter of this book that did not have a lesson to be learned by children and adults alike. I can't wait to see the movie version's of these delightful and enchanting books. It is good to see that people like J.K. Rowlings still have vivid imaginations that are put on paper. I can't wait to read about the next four years at Hogwart's.

All About Mara

Mara, Daughter of the Nile (Puffin Story Books) - book cover picture

This is my favorite book of all time! My sixth-grade homeroom teacher read this to my class years ago, and I've loved it ever since. Ancient Egypt is alive and tangible in these pages, the characters real and human. I love the author's skill in bringing to light numerous different personalities: Mara, the clever but impetuous slave girl; Inanni, the timid but warmhearted princess; and Sheftu, your classic suave nobleman who is both street smart AND politically aware. I love the history, the references to customs and gods and geography and Egyptian clothing. And the plot is well-written, too, with plenty of intrigue and drama, and also a few touching moments. I could go on and on, but I'll save everyone the time by saying it's a great read for kids and adults alike. I wish it had a sequel!

The Prince

The Prince: A Revised Translation Backgrounds Interpretations Marginalia (Norton Critical Editions) - book cover picture

What makes the prince a classics is that if one substitutes competing businesses for rival empires and subordinate employees for faithful troops and soldiers it still remains relevant and pertinent to some extent. Take note however that machiavelli was no successful stateman himself; although that is why he can perhaps offer valuable lessons from an interesting perspective. Do not, however, overanalyze this book Machiavelli was no philosopher either, so there may be a few inconsistencies and unexpanded-on thoughts.
A word about this edition- I would rather recommend the Everyman's hardcover edition. It's a measly few more bucks, but you get a much better looking edition plus two extra works of Machiavelli- "Description of the Methods Adopted by Duke Valentino" and "The Life of Castruccio Castracani of Lucca".
Machiavelli may not have been successful as a statesman but he is plenty successful as a political analyst with a few flaws here and there, of course...

Seductive Poison - book cover picture

I wish she hadn't had to go through all that, but I'm also glad that she decided to write about what happened. My school had the writer of Seductive Posion come talk to us and she was really interesteing to listen to. I had read some of the book ahead of time btu I didn't need to to understand the message. I think this book helps kids see how easy it is to go down the wrong path and how important it is to ask questions and not look out side of ourselves for answers.

Loved It to death!!

Horse Whisperer - book cover picture

I loved this book and I was astonished when I saw all of it's bad reviews in here! I am an equstrian myself and I am 14 years old. I can't see how all you people wouldn't like it? And not liking it because of the ending? It's called life..I think it was good of him to put that in at the end because it made you sit still for a moment with the book down in your lap as you gaze into space. I saw the movie the first day it was out and I though it was VERY good but I didn't like the ending of it..It's to..i don't know not put together well..You never see or hear her re-load Pilgram..But some of you need to acctully read the book not put it down because of the BORING part of the trucker. Thats all I have to say but GOOD BOOK!!

A good young-adult love story

Book title: Companions of the Night
Rating: 5/5

Companions of the Night - book cover picture

I read this book several years ago and still have it on my bookshelf. It's a nice short young adult story about a vampire and a teenage girl. This girl gets mixed up in a bad situation and is forced to live it out due to circumstances. She is at the laundry-mat the first time she meets Ethan, the vampire. He is being hunted down by a gang (of whom he previously killed a member of), and she inadvertantly helps him get away. Her family is now taken hostage by this gang, and you get the gist of what is going on. It's well written, very interesting, nice and complete. I think the ending is what everyone who likes this genre expects, but for this story, it was fitting. There wasn't a dull moment, though sometimes I think it's a little too carried away. I enjoyed it though, and would recommend it to anyone interested in light, vampire-related love stories.

A Brief History of Time - book cover picture

Though there exist many classical textbooks about cosmology and quantum mechanics in popular science, this one can be surely distinguished for its clarity and completeness about the subject. The author has been able to lead the reader from simple and usual concepts to advanced and up-to-date unified theories. Easy to understand, but it leaves to the reader the view of the large front modern physics is facing

Seriously! We all have to die someday and can learn something from this book Tuesdays with Morrie. OMG I had so many emotions in this book. It is a true story and a good one. It teaches and teaches and teaches some more. We all need a lesson where we are not biased and are not head strong like when we are argumentative or shallow and this book makes us all sit down and think about our lives and how we should do the best to enjoy it and laugh and be funny while being real to our core. A book for all of the human race.
