A book about teenage sex and love.

Book title: Forever . . .

Forever . . . - book cover picture

This book was a great read. It's a good book especially if you are a virgin like the character in the story. I had to read this book over the summer for HS. It was unsually for me at first, bacuase Judy made the mmain character a girl especially in a story like this. Usausly it's told from the male's point of view. This book was hard to put down it was like watching a soap on tv, even if you're notattarted to the series one episode could keep you glued. Any way even though this book was a love story between a gorl and and her boyfriend Michael. It did tackle safe sex, STD's etc. It also showed how timid and reluctant the main character was at first, but after her second try she had her sex drive going on. It was a good book overall but the ending to me was questionably unrealistic I'm not sure that could happen after such a long relationship in a short period of time.

The Adept 1 (Adept) - book cover picture

I read "The Adept" because it was written by Katherine Kurtz. I have read some of her works before and liked them alot. Well, to put it frankly, she has done it again. "The Adept" is an occult mystery with attitude. The characters are intelligent and you can't help but like them. The mystery is well written and woven in with the other threads of the story so well, that you want to keep turning that next page. The magic and fantasy aspects are so well crafted that they just could be plausible. Everything in his book works. Nothing is tacked on just to fill pages. "The Adept" might keep you up at night, just like any good mystery should

A magnificent achievement

Book title: The Ascent of Science
Rating: 5/5

The Ascent of Science - book cover picture

This book is the best overview of science (and its history) that I have ever encountered. It makes a good reference because it is so comprehensive: from Newton's Laws of Motion through Quantum Theory, via a wonderful description of biology, genetics, and evolution. But there is more. The book is perspicuous: it is clearly written and easy to understand, and that is an enormous achievement in itself, undoubtedly the product of many happy years in the classroom with his students.More than that: the book is thought-provoking and very gently humorous, leading me to suspect that Brian Silver would have made a wonderful companion to have for dinner, or a wonderful man to have had as a teacher. It seems quite unfair and sad that he apparently passed away while the book was in press. He had every right to be proud of it.This goes on my bookshelf next to Bertrand Russell's "History of Western Philosophy."Highest recommendation!

One of the best books I have read

Book title: These Is My Words: The Diary of Sarah Agnes Prine, 1881-1901 : A Novel

These Is My Words: The Diary of Sarah Agnes Prine, 1881-1901 : A Novel - book cover picture

This book has kept my attention from page one & is one I have not been able to put down. I discovered this book when I came across the sequel: Sarah's Quilt in a bookstore. Being a quilter I love any books that have to do with quilts & quilting. And from there I discovered that Sarah's story really began here in These Is My Words. This book is very similar to the Diary of Mattie Spenser by Sandra Dallas;
I am usually a mystery book reader.. I don't get into romance novels at all. But this book is adventure, history, and a little romance & I love it. I am trying to picture who would make a good Capt.Jack Elliott if they made this into a movie..
I would not be surprised if they did turn this into a movie. It would be an excellent adventure.
Buy this book it is excellent. It is well worth every penny of your purchase price.

Brave and Beautiful

In the Yucatan: A Novel - book cover picture

This is a brave and beautiful book. Hard and sometimes harsh, it uses the language and imagery of an ancient people to tell a modern and eternal story of courage in the face of corruption. Shorris makes excruciating the details of two men's battle against impossible odds, and by doing so, ennobles them. No one who cares about politics or social justice in Mexico -- or the USA -- should miss this powerful book.

Vector calculus presented from an applied approach

Div, Grad, Curl, and All That: An Informal Text on Vector Calculus - book cover picture

If you've taken (or are in the process of taking) vector calculus (whether an intro in multivariable calculus or as a class itself) this book is indispensible for support. It's best feature is the fact that physics and engineering students can benefit from it's applied viewpoint, specifically on electric charge, potential. etc. The title of the book is established quite well in that this book is a relatively light read and that the reader will be able to comprehend vector calculus with an understanding of why scientists use vector calc in the first place. Overall, an excellent read with the answers to selected exercises placed in the back allow the reader to monitor learning.

The Brute

The Bear: Libretto - book cover picture

Some use the above title...The Bear...but I prefer the title in my English textbook...The Brute. For Smirnov is a brute, albeit a loveable one.He comes to collect money that is due him from Mrs. Popov, but she refuses to pay him. He becomes enraged, goes into a tirade about the infidelity of women, breaks a chair, and then falls madly in love with this Mrs. Popov. This play is a farce in the true meaning of the theatrical of the finest plays in the store of literature.

The Meme Machine - book cover picture

Anyone who 'liked' the Selfish Gene will be similarly struck by this contribution to Darwinism. The second replicator is here, it fleshes out the biggest objections to genetic determinism in humans (and yet poses the biggest threat to the human 'ego' that I have ever read). Get this book, face it, this book is going to be a classic - beautifully written and (I think) faultlessly argued, definitely the scariest thing about 1999 - hang on to your hat.
