Fast paced , great characters, suspense, humor with ongoing story lines of multiple characters both in present time and times in the past. It also , once again, brings characters from past stories back into the present story. That is like getting to say hi again to old friends. Once again Suzanne Brockmann has put out a great tale if not one of her best to date. Finally, we can all read about the story of Lt.Sam Starrett and FBI agent Alyssa Locke. It was worth the wait. This story delivers. Enjoy !!

Nineteen Eighty-Four (Penguin Twentieth Century Classics S.) - book cover picture

Ok, I have never been much of a reader. I recently decided to get back into reading. I'm glad I picked this book because I loved it. I have always been very interested in politics and propaganda. There were more than a few times during my read that I noticed similarities to our current political climate. Sometimes the instances of similarity were absolutely uncanny. One of the similarities I found most intriguing was the use of hate as a means of control. I believe this technique is being used today in our society. HATE = PATRIOTISM

Acts of Love - book cover picture

The authors' use of letters was a huge attraction! Just as Luke, one of the central characters, longed to get back each night to Jessica's letters, I, too, looked forward to getting back to this book so I could discover what happened to Jessica. Then, later, I looked forward to Luke's letters to Jessica. It made me realize how the art of letter writing is lost and how powerful it can be. You can put so much detail in a letter about your inner-most thoughts. After reading this book, I have decided to begin writing letters to my husband - to tell him of my thoughts about the day that I would never otherwise share. I seem to tell him what I did during the day but leave out the vivid descriptions and how I felt about the day.Rarely does a book make you want to adapt a new bahavior in your private life.I loved this book!

Working: My Life As a Prostitute - book cover picture

I was looking for a book that I couldn't put down, and this was it! My sister recommended it to me, because she and I like reading books about people with lives vastly different from ours. It was a true winner: interesting, insightful, intelligent, and exciting. Dolores French is a true expert on prostitution, and the things she writes about both shock and delight the reader. I would recommend it to anyone open-minded enough to enjoy it!

Dark Towers (Books 1-4) - book cover picture

This series is the epitome of all that Stephen King has written--as he readily admits. It portrays the sojourn of an unlikely band of companions whose ultimate quest is to repair a pervasive force whose very existence threatens to annihilate and mutate all things. The actualization of this quest is brought about by forging the Gunslinger's (Roland) life story, fashioning a band of gunslingers to aid his battle, and then sending them off into a macabre world where they must war against fate itself. It is a gripping tale that, once read, continues in one's mind to be a paradigm for all other books to follow.

Malignant Sadness: The Anatomy of Depression - book cover picture

This book is for those who want the facts and options as related to major and bi-polar depression. It is not a "touchy-feely, sympathetic wallowing-in" of the subject, which is its appeal for me (in addition to its brevity and readability). It offers facts related to the possible mechanisms of depression and, more importantly, how these mechanisms can be changed. It is brief, but it is supplemented with plenty of citations. A good book if you don't quite have the time for "Noonday Demon" but would like to understand what depression is and, more importantly, the options for dealing with it.

Rogues' Reform (Harlequin Romance) - book cover picture

Very good - three distinct love stories set in Regency Englandfocused on the pursuit of marriage by commanding heroes facingdetermined resistance. Smart, engaging, passionate - overall, a good read. If you like romances with strong characters (think Linda Howard, Jayne Ann Krentz, Julie Garwood), you should enjoy this. However, I would suggest a more recent effort, "Devil's Bride", if you've never read Laurens before. For long-time fans, this novel is a re-release of three previously published titles about the Lester family (Lenore, Jack, Harry): Reasons for Marriage (1994), A Lady of Expectations (1995), and An Unwilling Conquest (1996).

Ishmael: An Adventure of the Mind and Spirit - book cover picture

as a sixth grade teacher for 28 years i have seen apathy raise its ugly head until it is looking me in the eyeballs. last spring i used ishmael with a group of the more motivated students and the results were astounding. they loved the book and wrestled diligently with the concepts taught by ishmael. the rest of the class tuned into every discussion this group had and were also entranced. quinn is careful to give no single answer to the dilemmas we have brought onto ourselves. giving young people the idea that this is their world too, and that their ideas are important in solving our problems empowers them and gives them a head start in life. i can think of no other book as important for young people to read. even if they do not agree with ishmael's (quinn's) take on how we got to this point culturally, they will learn to question and realize that there is more than one way to live.

How to Write a Play (Teach Yourself Educational S.) - book cover picture

David Carter has written a very short, very concise book on the craft of writing a play. It deeply explores all important aspects of playwriting i.e. plot, theme, character, dialogue, structure, the first draft and the re-write all in about 135 pages. The book is written in a very clear organised manner that is easily understood by the most inexperienced writer. There is very little about playwriting not included in this book.

Games of No Chance (Mathematical Sciences Research Institute Publications) - book cover picture

This book is full of beatiful work. Every section is an investigation into some combinatorial game, or some idea in combinatorial game theory. Most of the material is clearly presented and all should be accessible to undergrads, but be warned: this is not simple stuff. But, as we all know, beautiful mathematics isn't always simple. The book also includes a section with 52 unsolved problems, which should be of considerable interest to the curious.
