Alice in April - book cover picture

This was a very interesting book. Some boys call some of the girls names. Alice did not get a name from the boys. She wanted one. Finally she did. One time she found out that one of her friends died. It is a very good book. I recommed this book to fourth graders and up because it has some words that are bad in it. Alice is my favorite character because she is a very nice person to her friends. The author of the book is Phyllis Reynolds Naylor.I recommend that you read books by her because the books are very good and I think you will like them alot.

Dark Fire - book cover picture

Another great book by Christine Feehan continuing the Dark series. Darius is a wonderful hero ready to make any sacrifice for Tempest. What wouldn't most of us give for a man who would risk his very health to protect his lover from a choice which he believes that he is not entitled to ask her to make? Although, he is admittedly quite dictatorial. But Tempest is more than his match and is actually the most street-wise of the "Dark" heroines.

Pain Free : A Revolutionary Method For Stopping Chronic Pain - book cover picture

This book has a very simple premise: that optimally calibrated motion, not simply exercise, is the key to pain-free existence.
I've used the exercises in the book for a month now, and my chronic neck, shoulder, and write pain have diminished greatly. Whereas most regimens emphasize strength and relaxation, this book emphasizes that proper motion may require different muscles and different motions than you may be used to. In particular, you may have to retrain your body to use the strong, latent muscles that a sedentary lifestyle neglects.A masterpiece, simply put.

The Lost Boy: A Foster Child's Search for the Love of a Family - book cover picture

After making the decision that my husband and I would like to become Foster Parents, I saw David Pelzer on the Oprah Winfrey Show sharing about his books. I was astounded that any child should have to live like he did, and there he was, a model adult that any child would want to emulate! For those people who are skeptics about the world of Foster Parenting, this is a book that will change your entire outlook towards society's responsibility for the abused children that live among us.

A Place to Call Home - book cover picture

For the same reason that I love any work by Pat Conroy, I have come to love Deborah Smith's novels. As a life-long Southern gal myself, I find myself smiling at the "oh-so-true" descriptions and metaphors that are so unique to our culture. From small-town parades to local "hysterical societies," I always feel that Ms. Smith is writing about the people and places that I grew up around. I can't wait to read her next novel!

The Guru's Guide to Transact-SQL - book cover picture

In a time of rush to market hacks, it's nice to come across a computer book that doesn't offend the aesthetic senses - the literary taste people should have when they read things.I've seen good computer books in my time, but this one is very easily the best one I've ever read. It is concise, loaded with useful info, and engaging. I felt I'd just come upon that "undiscovered country" when I began reading this one. It is one groundbreaking piece of work. The thing I like the most about it is that it takes no shortcuts. The example code had to be a bear to put together. By my count, there's at least 10,000 lines of it. A lesser book would have had simpler, strawman examples. A lesser book would have avoided going into detailed discussions about things like transaction management and cursor use. Not this one, though. It is everything I could have hoped for and more. For the money, this is the best SQL Server book in print, bar none.

A Painted House - book cover picture

If your only favored reading is the usual Grisham grist, don't buy this one--you'll only be disappointed that it's not the good-boy-lawyer-saves-world-one-client-a t-a-time style of story. Fact is, I do like most of Grisham's work, because there's nothing wrong with a good thriller. "A Painted House" is no thriller, but it is beautiful. You have to be interested in reading a story, though, not just be swept off your feet by action. You can see this by reading these reviews. The people who didn't like "A Painted House" are whining because it's not an action-packed adventure novel (though there IS, actually, plenty of action). My question to them: Did you read the dust jacket? Hey, readers, don't be fooled, this is an excellent story; this book is a memorable gem!

The Dante Club : A Novel - book cover picture

I really like to read books from all different time periods and this book makes you feel like you are really in post-civil war Boston. It gives plenty of detail on the characters and you feel like you know them personally. It is also fun and challenging to figure out who the murderer is, because the author does not give any clues in his speech of who it could be. The author is very knowledgeable about Daunte. While you don't learn ALL of the details of Daunte's Inferno, you learn many of them and you get a sense of the true meaning of the poetry.

Shouting at the Sky : Troubled Teens and the Promise of the Wild - book cover picture

I was sent to Aspen Achievement Academy shortly after my 17th birthday. At first, I could not imagine what such a program could do for me. It turned out to be the best experience I've ever had. I learned about myself, gained confidence, and made friends who I plan to keep forever. Gary Ferguson is one of those friends. He encourages and supports me. I don't think it's fair to condemn wilderness programs until you have personally experienced them. It was magic for me.

The Dive From Clausen's Pier : A Novel (Vintage Contemporaries (Paperback)) - book cover picture

What would you do if the person you love suddenly isn't like the one you have always known? Would you love them anyway? Would you leave? Would you risk leaving your safety net? Could you deal?
These are the questions Carrie finds herself meeting when her high school sweetheart is paralyzed after...well, a dive from Clausen's pier.
I liked this book because the situation seemed real to me, and I think the main questions this book addressed were ones we have all thought about (not to be morbid) at some point in time. Whether you agree with her or not, the choices Carrie makes are what make her human. The writing held my attention and the flow to the plot was very smooth. I highly recommend this book.
