Bimbos of the Death Sun - book cover picture

I was immersed in the fannish lifestyle while in high school, and know people still in it. This is SO accurate of many of the people you see there, and like the author's comments say, I DID recognize people in the book that could have been from real life. Loved it loved it loved it! I like a large range of mysteries, but ones that can make me laugh at the same time are my favorites. I plan on reading the sequel.

I love the brilliant illustrations

Ribbit, Ribbit (Puffy Board Books) - book cover picture

The frogs are well-illustrated and brilliantly colored. The backwards counting practice is great for learning numbers (instead of the typical everything gets added to kind of counting practice).
It's a neat idea and introduces words kids don't get a lot of (speckled, for instance, and delicious). I also like how the frogs are actually all there in the end with just their little bubble eyes poking up out of the pool.
Great idea, masterfully done. Pretty to look at and fun to hold. My children seem to have to squish the cover a bit before we get on with the reading.

a very thought provoking commentary

Book title: Adam Clarke's Commentary

Adam Clarke's Commentary - book cover picture

Adam Clarke's commentary is very unique. He believed in total sanctification and makes a very cogent argument for it. He is very scholarly , but very accessible. He takes the greek words and shows what they meant in greek works, like the Iliad, etc. He was not afraid to change the meaning of a verse when he thought that verse was inconsistent with the corpus of orthodoxy and to me, at least, it gives a much different interpretation than what i was taught..but he always backs up his interpretations with lucid commentary..would highly recommend..a definite call to holiness.

Excellent Book...

When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads, Revised Edition : Proven Guidelines for a Healthy Multiple Pregnancy - book cover picture

This is an excellent book that I highly recommend to anyone having multiples. It has excellent information presented in a very reassuring way - not in the "everything will go wrong" tone that some multiple books take. The advice is sound and practical and the information is great. I found the footprints particularly helpful - whenever I did not think that I could survive one more day, I would look at those footprints and think about how much bigger they would be in just a few more days. In the end, my girls were born perfectly healthy at 37 weeks weighing 5lb14oz and 6lb5oz.

Watermelon -- Funny, Charming, and a Good Read

Book title: Watermelon
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Mass Market Paperback
Watermelon - book cover picture

While I liked "Lucy Sullivan..." better, I found Watermelon just as enjoyable. The first-person dialogue is hilarious, and Marion Keyes has a wicked sense of humor. There were some really priceless scenes in this book that make you want to go back and read them again. Great colorful characters with all the little quirks that make good writing. A delightful read. I'd recommend this if you enjoy reading first-person books with a light plot and humor. I also recommend "Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married" by the same author if you liked this one. Both are superb books.

Let it Snow!

Book title: Snow Falling on Cedars

Snow Falling on Cedars - book cover picture

Guterson's SNOW FALLING ON CEDARS led me back to so many wonderful pieces of literature. From the troubadour poetry of William IX, Duke of Aquitaine, to the pain and heartbreak of so many of F. Scott Fitzgerald's characters, the culmination of which was, of course, Jay Gatsby, and now, finally to Ishmael Chambers -- all of them pursuers of unrequited love. And yet, THIS book goes far beyond a love story as it delves into the history of what some may refer to as WW II, others the period in which Japanese were placed in internment camps, and which I say is part of our (America's) often ignored, or even buried past. Guterson's descriptions are powerfully sensitive in their brutally realistic delivery. This is a book, though painful and uncomfortable at times, is ultimately thought-provoking and liberating!

Companions of the Night - book cover picture

The Companions of the Night By: Vivian Vande Velde 212p producer is magic Carpet books.
I loved this book it had romance blood and lots of mystery. The book is about two people. When the main girl is persuaded to go to the 24 hour laundry mat; to get her little brother's teddy bear. When she gets there she is caught is what is thought to be a gang fight. But she soon finds out that they think that he is a vampire. And they think they have to kill him. She laughs at that thought. She is thought to also be a vampire so they take her hostage to find out. If she gets in the sun then she will burn; and if the sun doesn't burn her then she's not. But she doesn't won't to wait to find out. She and the guy run for it when they aren't looking.
This is about the quest that they have looking for cover.

Her best yet

Book title: Bad to the Bone (Casey Jones Mysteries)

Bad to the Bone (Casey Jones Mysteries) - book cover picture

This is, I think, Katy Munger's best book. The plot, for a start, is an absolute corker: when she's used by a client, blonde bitca Tawny Bledsoe, to frame an innocent man for murder, Casey Jones swears revenge. The only problem is, things from the past -- her no-good ex-husband, her sometime lover Bill Butler, and her own trailer-trash upbringing -- keep getting in the way. The writing is superb. There's all the fast-moving action, local colour, wit and sass we've come to expect from Munger, but there's also a greater psychological depth to the novel as Casey tries to come to grips with her own past. If you're a fan of female PIs -- hell, if you're a mystery fan at all -- you are going to love this book. Just don't try reading it in bed -- you'll be up all night because it's quite a pageturner.

From a former foster youth

White Oleander : A Novel (Oprah's Book Club) - book cover picture

I'm a former foster youth (19 years old) and I am absolutely floored with how accurately Janet Fitch depicts the foster care experience. I've lived through 19 homes and tears came to my eyes as Janet touched experiences that struck home to me. All the homes (save Claire's) are realistic, believe me! Even with the caring Claire's home, we are given meat. We are shown the beauty of an ideal foster parent, the kind we veteran foster youth dream of.This book is exactly what American's should be reading. Too few people fathom, let alone understand, what a crisis the foster system is in today. This book not only opens the door, but it does it engagingly. Its a page turner. If you want to learn about the foster care system, and you don't like getting bored, read this book.
