Missing Links - book cover picture

I'm not much of a fiction reader. I only read this because I enjoyed Mr. Reilly's recent works -- Who's Your Caddy? Missing Links is an entertaining novel about six golfing buddies, all with distinct personalities. The character development done by Mr. Reilly is nothing short of spectacular. There are enough twists and turns in the book to keep the reader turning the pages. At the same time, there aren't so many characters that you're wondering who is who. It's a shame the book had to end, rather abruptly I might add. You don't have to like golf to enjoy this book. Highly Recommended for Everybody!!!!

To the Nines (A Stephanie Plum Novel) - book cover picture

If you are not yet addicted to Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series--you will be with this book. I started reading the series with High Five and Seven Up. Since then I've read them all and you should too! The series can be savored without worrying about reading in order, but I've enjoyed the tiny threads woven through each book even more by going back and reading from the beginning. Stephanie, a bounty hunter by default, is zany and witty. Her cast of characters includes a grandmother who loves to go to viewings of the recently deceased, an on-again-off-again boyfriend who is a cop, a sexy bad-a** bounty hunter(sometimes partner)named Ranger and his cast of merry men. (The mutual attraction between Stephanie and Ranger creates some interesting heat.) Through this series you'll meet her family, friends, and co-workers--and entertaining fugitives--all in technicolor vibrance. Don't miss this one!

The Legend of Luke (Redwall, Book 12) - book cover picture

After reading Martin the Warrior, I wanted to know more about Martin's father, Luke. When I found out about this book, I couldn't wait to read it. And it didn't let me down- I enjoyed every word!
I especially liked learning what happened to Luke after he left Martin and his home to seek vengeance on a stoat named Vilu Daskar.
I was a little dissapointed at the end that Jaques did not have the two warriors (Luke and Martin) meet again, but I still enjoyed it, and the ending turned out happy after all.I can tell you, if you're a Redwall fan, then you should really read this book. I read this book in practically a day! I couldn't put it down until it was finished. Next, I'm going to read it to my brother and sister. Anyway, everyone should read this book!

Absolutely loved it

Cold Mountain - book cover picture

If you enjoy deeply felt intelligent literature, you will likely love this one. If your idea of good reading is of the "page turner" variety, you might give it a pass. Charles Frazier's hauntingly beautiful novel is a retelling of a life-changing time in American history and the lives of the residents of Cold Mountain. I have not read anything else that has moved me in such a profound way in recent memory. It is very deserving of all of the accolades that have been expressed and undeserving of the petty criticisms that have been registered here. To those, I would suggest that they try some Grisham or King perhaps and leave the good stuff to the grown-ups.

Rich Dad, Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money--That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not! - book cover picture

I just got done reading Rich Dad, Poor Dad -- and I was very excited to read the new perspectives that Kiyosaki brings to the table. I've read just about every success book out there, and I'm not really looking for someone to tell me exactly what to do (Like how Tony Robbins tells you to eat only fruit until 1pm every day! haha)... So I was refreshed by the concepts he offers. Especially the concept of seperating your assets from your liabilities, and recognizing liabilities that you may think are assets. I look forward to reading more of his info, and maybe seeing him in a seminar in the future. As with all success books, however, the author is not god -- and yes it is probably true that there is no "Rich Dad", and that Kiyosaki made his millions from selling these books and nothing else. That's ok with me, but I just wanted to point that out to others who might read and then take everything he gives you at face value, instead of thinking about it more deeply.

Superb real-life mystery

Book title: The Rose of Tibet

The Rose of Tibet - book cover picture

This is the most fascinating book I have read in years. What makes it so good is that it's based on real events and about a country closed to the western world and about which the west knew very little at the time. The book was written in 1960, nine years after Houston returned from Tibet. What happened to him in that remote country was so strange as to be unbelievable, yet I was left with the feeling that those events really did occur. It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and I couldn't relax till I'd finished the book. One is left wondering about so many things, not least what really happened to Houston in the end, one can really only guess from the clues given in the story.

Resolution through Dialogue

A Public Peace Process: Sustained Dialogue to Transform Racial and Ethnic Conflicts - book cover picture

Harold Saunders, now Director of International Programs at the Kettering Foundation, distills more than 35 years of experience working with conflicts between "bodies politic" across the globe and in the United States. The essence of his work is that groups of citizens can use a structured dialogue to move protracted conflicts, such as those in the Middle East and between the races in this country, toward resolution. He developed his approach through work on the Dartmouth Conference, between Americans and Soviets, and has put it into practice, with salutory results, in Tajikistan; Mobile, Alabama; and elsewhere. The book describes his approach. He draws copiously on his experience and that of others to show how and why his approach can work. This is an essential work for anyone concerned with resolving conflict at home or abroad.

Wild Swans : Three Daughters of China - book cover picture

I have to admit, my knowledge of history of any Asian country is/was almost non existent. Now at least I have an idea of the post war lord days of China and I'm sure that my jaw hung open while reading most of this book-from the very beginning when the author describes the foot binding through all of the beatings, tortures and "government" way of life. I can't imagine that anyone living in China during this time period was unaffected by all that went on. This book was well written, easy to follow (despite all of the foreign names and places!) and told a most incredible story. I am still in denial that an entire country was treated as they were. Incredible!!!!

Presenting to Win: The Art of Telling Your Story - book cover picture

The lessons in this excellent book should be studied and applied by everyone who has to give presentations. In terms of audience connection and persuasive technique, Abe Lincoln must have known everything here (except, perhaps, the details of PowerPoint). And that's good, because you don't need anything new or fancy to give a great presentation, you just need a message and clear instructions on how to deliver it - so, here they are. The book is cleanly written with pop-out boxes, sample graphics and corporate examples. Anyone who ignores its powerful basic rules will fail at presenting. Failure means boring the audience and leaving them unconvinced and unwilling to hear more. This is your cure for those blues. The book's flaw is the author's tedious self-promotion, but he's a former TV guy, so what the heck do you expect? The bottom line, we attest, is that what he says, you need to know.

Skellig - book cover picture

This book was so good I bought one for a friend. I thought this book was good because it is exciting and I never new what was going to happen next and couldn't put it down. I thought Skellig as a character was quite scary at first but when I got to know him, he was nice. I found it a bit difficult to understand to start with but then it got really exciting. It was a sad ending and I was disappointed that such an excellent book had come to an end.
