The Duke And I (Avon Romantic Treasure) - book cover picture

This book is Julia Quinn at her best. Not only can she write a story that has both humor and wit but she can create a touching scene in just a few words. Pulling on your heartstrings in one paragraph and then making you cry with laughter in another! The friendship between Simon and Daphne was wonderful to read and the attraction from the word go was exciting to watch explode. I also think I know who the mysterious Author is but I don't want to spoil it for anyone! I can't wait to read Anthony's story ... it is sure to be a fabulous read!If you enjoyed this book keep your eyes peeled for Julia Quinn's earlier books Splendid, Dancing At Midnight (which are soon to be re-released) and Minx! Each book is funnier than the next! Julia Quinn is priceless and perfection all rolled into one!

The Best Techy Intro to ISDN & SS7

ISDN and SS7: Architectures for Digital Signaling Networks - book cover picture

This is the best introductory technical book on ISDN and SS7 I've seen. I first came across it when I was writing software that handled ISDN connections, and found the ISDN spec (aka Q.931) pretty impenetrable. This book gave me enough background to deal with it. Recently I've been working on SS7 software, and once again found Black's book provides a solid grounding, getting you ready to read the specs for the gorey details. It's small enough to read the whole thing, and yet it goes into enough detail to really explain what's up.

This book was a truely good book. No joke. I had to read it for school and I figured it'd be like every other "good book", like to kill a mockingbird. this book is simply good. Its the best book i've ever read. I could identify with this book more than anything else in my entire life. I'm a 15 year old kid and I loved it. I give it my best reccomendations but be ready to think about the stuff he says its truely deep.

Solo : Women Singer-Songwriters in Their Own Words - book cover picture

I have read and re-read Solo and am so pleased that Marc and Emma have finally done justice to the best of the curent music world. All the women in the book are writers as well as performers and, what the photographs and interviews in Solo portray, is that these women are real people too. I am sick of reading tainted rock-goddess interviews with flashy, floozy photographs to match. The solo text is well written, intelligable and accessible. The photographs are wonderfully human as well as artistic. There is alot of valuable information about women, society and the pressures of life in this book and I hope alot of young people read it. I also hope Marc and Emma continue their partnership and produce many more books of this quality. Well done.

Soldat : Reflections of a German Soldier, 1936-1949 - book cover picture

Major Knappe records in riveting details the hardships encountered by the Wehrmacht (being careful to point out that most were not Nazi party members) in WWII. Most American readers would not believe the difficulties the Germans endured particularly on the Eastern Front, and the tragic toll the war took on all of Germany. Knappe concludes his story with his recount of his years in Soviet confinement AFTER the war, a fate shared by countless German soldiers, and one which the majority of whom never survived. This is one book any serious student of history should read - it covers a lot that the American historians will never tell you.

Belgarath the Sorcerer - book cover picture

I have been reading David Eddings for years, I can't count the times I would fall alseep and dreamabout his books. Well let me say this about Belgarath the Sorcerer, It really offered me an insight into the past of one of my favorite "people". Not only did Mr. Eddings give us insight into Belgaraths, Polgagaras, and Poledras past but also gave us an insight into their world. I hope that someday I can write that well, well enough to let people feel the emotions of my charecters, as well as join in the excitment of their world!!!! Thank you Mr. Edding

The Physics of Immortality : Modern Cosmology, God and the Resurrection of the Dead - book cover picture

I'll preface my review by saying that I rarely take this kind of edgy pre-theory read too seriously. I prefer to read such work purely to stir my mind, not change my thoughts on subjects that have no true bearing on my daily life. That said, this book presents an interesting far-reaching theory that attempts to unite universal religious beliefs with physics. I felt certain early assumptions were skimmed over too quickly without full proper proof, but again any book on the subject matter is ultimately using theory not law. The theory is interesting and the writing kept me engrossed even if I have not rushed out to declared I believe in it.

Fine Literature is Alive and Well on The Beach

Book title: The Beach
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Paperback
The Beach - book cover picture

Skipping the synopsis, I'll just tell you why I liked the book so much. It seems that in the book world today we are caught up with Tom Clancy's terrorists and Anne Rice's vampires, and we have forgotten what real literature is. Literary devices like symbolism and dramatic irony may have been lost in place of guns and blood, but these are found in plenty in Garland's masterpeice The Beach. This book can be read by the casual reader who likes tropical settings and an exciting storyline(both of which Garland utilizes expertly), or the hardcore lit buff who wants to read it and re-read it looking for subtleties and messages. I have personally read it three times so far and I'm pleasantly suprised with a new meaning each time. Garland will not vanish from the world of books, he will be very famous one day.

Book title: Where the Red Fern Grows

Where the Red Fern Grows - book cover picture

I read this book in the beginning of the forth grade and I have read it at least once every year since. I had just lost my dog two weeks before we started the book. I wouldn't say I wasn't coping with the loss very well because I wasn't coping with it at all. I am one of those people that was taught that it is okay to cry but I just don't. So I hadn't really let any of my feelings out about the loss of Grateful, that was my dogs name, Grateful Marley. I read the book and by the end I was a totally different person. It has helped me on so many different levels that I can honestly say this was the best book I have ever read. Maybe it is just because it also holds sentimental value but I think that this book can give you guidence in your life, even if you aren't looking for any.
