Could It Be...Perimenopause? - book cover picture

I really wasn't sure about this book just based on the cover. Boy was glad I changed my mind and purchased it! Like another reviewer I've read several books on the subject of perimenopause. None can compare to COULD IT BE...PERIMENOPAUSE? Dr. Goldstein has provided such a great service to those of us who are wondering what the heck is going on with our bodies and minds during this sometimes trying time. One of the sections that I was so glad to read is about dealing with symptons in a natural way. He asks, "Do you really want it natural or safe?" Dr. Goldstein brings up great points in answering this question. I realized what I wanted was safe and if at all possible natural. If anyone is contemplating surgery, get a copy of this book and read the section about this subject. It is very important and a REAL eye opener. I wish I had this book before I had surgery. This book really educates you and prepares you to ask more questions when visiting your OB/GYN.

Finally, techniques for texture

Rustic European Breads from Your Bread Machine - book cover picture

I love this book. I own two other bread making books, and this is my favorite. The other books give little antecdotes followed by a recipe, but they don't explain anything. This book has a lot of useful information on obtaining the perfect texture (creamy yet airy) and a chewy crust. My bread also rises better than it used to. And thanks to this book, my starters are finally working. I agree with the reviewer who said that the techniques discussed in the beginning of the book are not reiterated in the recipes, but they are straight forward enough to keep in mind.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was probably the best book I have ever read. I am 14 and I read alot. I try to stick to bestsellers (like the ones on the NY times list) and this book being stedily on that list cought my eye. It was so wonderful I read it in 2 days. I read it to all the kids I babysit for, ages from 1-12 and boy do they all love it! My mom even read it and loved it. This book breaks down barriers as a "childrens book" for all ages!

Heart Wrenching Novel

Book title: Turtle Moon
Rating: 5/5
Binding: Mass Market Paperback
Turtle Moon - book cover picture

If I had to name my three favorite authors, Alice Hoffman would be right up there with Diane Chamberlain and Chalotte Vale Allen. In Turtle Moon, Alice Hoffman has done a masterful job of showing how a young boy, perceived as "the meanest boy in Verity" is anything but! This mean boy rescues a baby from a murderous father and goes on the run with him. An unforgettable novel about the healing power of love and the folly of making assumptions based on appearances and innuendo.

Book title: Your Vitality Quotient

Your Vitality Quotient - book cover picture

I bought a hardback version of this book, an edition published in 1989. I was disappointed at the look and, at first, the layout, but closer, patient inspection revealed something special. This book is almost a perfect balance between scientific rigorousness and new age blather, but there is clearly an honest attempt to please two sets of people. I haven't tried the system (I've had the book for a couple of years!) but the science is very convincing, and quite unsensationalistic. The book basically claims to take 8-10 years off your age (including the way you look! ), and frankly this skeptic believes it. Read the book and you'll believe it too. It ISN'T rubbish, it is a proven means of regaining youth. The authors' bona fides, by the way, are as impressive as you'll get, and they have never to my knowledge spoken to Roseanne.

The best of Robert Heinlein

Book title: The Fantasies of Robert A. Heinlein

The Fantasies of Robert A. Heinlein - book cover picture

I am a big fan of Robert Heinlein, although I find all his Hugo award winning novels especially "Stranger in a Strange Land" and the "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" pretty hard to digest. However "The Fantasies of Robert Heinlein" collects 8 intriguing stories from one of the true masters of SF."All you Zombies", where a man in a bar reveals that he is his every relation (father, mother et al) through a series of time paradoxes and "And he built a crooked house" where an architect constructs a house in the shape of a tesseract (a four dimensional hypercube) in which he and the new occupants of the house find themselves trapped are simply masterpieces. Check out "They --" as well.A must read for any Heinlein and serious SF fan.

A. J. Ayer's criterion vs. Karl Popper's criterion

Language, Truth and Logic - book cover picture

To the previous reviewer:"Nor can we accept the suggestion that a sentence should be something which is definitely confutable by experience . . . This has been proposed by Karl Popper in his Logik der Forschung." ("Language, Truth and Logic", p. 38)A. J. Ayer criterion is based upon the assumption that no scientific theory is either confirmed or refuted "for eternity". In fact, it is both a verifiability/falsifiability criterion since by verifying a sentence one is falsifying its converse. Karl Popper's falsifiability criterion is based upon the assumption that certain scientific theories can be refuted "for eternity" (absolutely) albeit no theory can be confirmed "for eternity".

Nutrition for Foodservice and Culinary Professionals - book cover picture

I was assigned this text in my nutrition class in culinary school. The book was a joy to read because it was fun and easy to read. I really liked the section on vitamins and food sources of each vitamin. However, if you really want to know the type of questions asked in nutrition class in culinary school get the following. "Nutrtion Study Guide for Food Service and Culinary Professionals: Key Review Questions and Answers by Melissa Heilman. The isbn of this book is 1933023058. This book is right on with the type of questions that I accounted on my tests. With the help of these two books getting an "A" was quite easy.

Battle Cry of Freedom: The Civil War Era (Oxford History of the United States) - book cover picture

I am not a civil war freak. This was the first book on the subject I read. Great book though. The book is well over 800 pages and I was reading the book on the bus, as soon as I got home, when I woke up... For weeks I was too into what was happening in the book to keep up with the 'real world'. Not my usual experience for sure. If you have any interest in American history you should like this. If you don't have any interest the Civil War, read this and you will I'd almost bet it. This book is that good and more...
