Chrysanthemum - book cover picture

Chrysanthemum is a wonderful book. I like this book because it's
funny, and because it's by one of my favorite authors. I think it is great for people who need a heart-warming story, and for people
who think their name is not perfect.
Chrysanthemum is a little girl who thinks her name is perfect. When she goes to school, however, Victoria says her name isn't perfect. Read this story and find out what's next!

The Grapes of Wrath - book cover picture

There are authors who cojure wonderful plots, but lack the writing skills to tell it well, and there are authors who can grab you with their writing and need pay very little attention to plot. Steinbeck has created a vivid portrait combining both breath-taking and rough lyricism and a wonderful plot to create a master-piece of American fiction. With this book, Steinbeck has single handedly described what life was for "Okies" and has left no detail left out. For a seventeen year-old to be saying this about THE GRAPES OF WRATH, you know it must be good.

Healing Back Pain : The Mind-Body Connection - book cover picture

I guess I shouldn't be suprised at how negative people are about a prescription that costs next to nothing. We have all been well trained to believe that you get what you pay for. As for me I have suffered from severe back pain since I was 17 years old, and it has become more frequent and debilitating over the years. I'm going to give Dr. Sarno's approach my best effort. Drugs, exercises, gravity beds, and an endless stream of advice from other sufferers has never done much, except to make me feel ever more disillusioned and hopeless. It has become blatently clear to me that the medical community knows next to nothing. One has only to observe the frequency with which they retract findings and treatments. The medical and pharmaceutical community would like all of us to continue filling their pockets, and they cannot endorse anyone who so rightly exposes their motives.

A Crown of Swords (The Wheel of Time, Book 7) - book cover picture

I have enjoyed every book in the Wheel of Time series, including this one, more than any other book i've read in years. It is imaginative, descriptive, exciting and just plain wonderful. One thing that frustrates me is reading about so many characters. I believe that it is good to have many characters and to go into a lot of detail but the main character is Rand and therefore there should be more time spend on him. Other than that i can not think of a single thing to complain about. My complements to Robert Jordan on a brilliant novel

Nineteen Eighty-Four (Penguin Twentieth Century Classics S.) - book cover picture

This is a book which will haunt you all your life. It's a powerful tale of just how far tyrany can go. The impact of the book derives from the believability of the story and it's characters. I believe this work will survive as one of the great classics of our century. I do however warn any reader to be sure they are prepared to literally "walk through the valley of the shadow of death". Orwell paints a future so totally evil that it takes one some time to recover

Songs in Ordinary Time (Oprah's Book Club (Paperback)) - book cover picture

I've read many books I couldn't put down, books that I wished would go on and on. This is the first book I HAD to put down, because my emotional connection to the characters was so complete, I was afraid to find out what happened to them! Marie's life is so pathetic and her choices so self-distructive, it's like watching a car wreck--it's hideous and you turn away, then find yourself looking again. If you need a silver lining and a happy ending to enjoy a book, this one may not be for you, but it's almost impossible to keep from being pulled in, once you start reading.

Journey's End (Heinemann Plays) - book cover picture

As far as I know, this is the only play R C Sherriff ever wrote, and that is one of the greatest tragedies of the twentieth century. There have been various theatrical productions - including the Jason Connery/Nicky Henson production at the Whitehall theatre which captured absolutely the poignant, black humour of the piece. This drama, set in the trenches has everything - comedy, tragedy, history, despair and hope. I studied this piece at school and it has made a lasting impression on me. Captain Stanhope and Uncle will have a place in my heart for ever...

Eldest (Inheritance, Book 2) - book cover picture

I just wanted to say a couple of things...
I read Eragon and I absolutley loved it!!! You guys have to remember that this is a fantasy, thats the keyword here. You can't expect everything to be so realistic when its a fantasy book. I cant wait to read Eldest and I'm sure it will be just as good. You have to admit, for a sixteen year old kid, he's a pretty darn good author. And for those of you that have these really long, drawn out responses on your opinion of other peoples reviews, make sure that you're not making it a kids review, that just makes it laughable with all the big words.

How the Irish Saved Civilization : The Untold Story of Ireland's Heroic Role from the Fall of Rome to the Rise of Medieval Europe - book cover picture

Let me preface with this; I've read the hardcover edtion as well as listened to the abridged audiobook. The abridged version is mostly intact - I estimate that it contains about 75 to 80 percent of the original content; however, the selling point for the abridged version is Liam Neeson's reading.Mr. Neeson's reading is outstanding; his voice engages the listener. When he reads the text, it flows beautifully. He pauses at logical points in the text, his style is restrained (which allows the the text to speak for itself) and he doesn't act the text - he "tells" it, as a story teller would.I do not normally purchase audio books, but a took a chance on this. I haven't regretted my decision at all.

Vampire Diaries #1: The Awakening (Vampire Diaries) - book cover picture

This review actually covers all the books in the Vampire Diaries series. I read them when they first came out ten years ago and loved them so much that I wrote to LJ Smith, who had the time back then to write back to me personally and tell me what my letter meant to her. This is one of the few stories around today that cover so many different aspects: love, adventure, horror, and even humor too. In my opinion it's a modern day fairy tale complete with villans, heroines, rescues and escapes. Take the time to read it and you probably won't be able to forget it. Unlike so many book today the characters are completely developed, and often surprise you when they serve more than their stereotypical purpose. In short, buy this book!!!
