Better than Road to Serfdom

The Fatal Conceit : The Errors of Socialism (The Collected Works of F. A. Hayek) - book cover picture

This was a brilliant book. The language was much shorter and more precise than in Road to Serfdom.

I know that it was one of Hayek's traits to not use mathematics, but it would have been nice if he demonstrated some of his ideas with at least a little math. Or gave us the references if we wanted to look them up right at the bottom of the page.

Particularly neat was his off-setting things that were not critical to the argument in small type.

As it stands, the book is almost 100% empirical evidence of why socialism doesn't work. And kudos to the author for calling Socialism and Communism what they are, which is religion.

Reach for the Summit : Definite Dozen System for Succeeding at Whatever You Do. - book cover picture

Pat Summit has written a very truthful and honest book about what it takes to be successful. I really hate self-improvement books, however I found this to be a great book. I would suggest it to both athletes, and managers in the public/private sector. I don't know too much about basketball, Coach Summit, or the University of Tennessee, but that didn't really matter. Coach Summit writes very simply, and uses many examples. At many points I found myself laughing at her stories.

Redwall (Redwall, Book 1) - book cover picture

The moment I finished reading this book I yearned for more. I love the way Brian Jacques made an absolutely fictional book so real that you start to think it could actually happen! After I finished this book, and all the rest, I started to compare friends and family to the characters in the book! I would reccomend this book to everyone who can read English! The most interesting thing about Redwall is how every "species" has their own accent. This book is one that I will continue to read over & over again!

At First I Wasn't Too Sure About This One But...

Stealing Heaven - book cover picture

This turned out to be one of this author's best books. After reading the first few pages however, I had put it down due to tedium, but I decided to give it another try. I'm SO glad I did. Marcus is second only to Addis (BY POSSESSION) as far as sexy, sensitive, handsome heros go. And the plot was good; telling much about Marcus's feelings for Nesta in the way that he handled her 'treasonous' actions. Just a great story with great characters. David (BY ARRANGEMENT) was a delight, as was Addis, however brief his appearance.

How to Think Like a CEO : The 22 Vital Traits You Need to Be the Person at the Top - book cover picture

'...Think Like a CEO is another book that lends common sense, easy to understand information about leadership skills in the business world. Benton's examples are full of insight. Unlike many business books that use long, scientific style examples of handling business encounters, D.A. provides pointed demonstrations. The examples are a blend of relatable straight talk and humor. I checked this one out from the library and because I hated to take it back. I incurred late fees in the amount, in which I could have used to purchase the book! Get the book.

The Dancing Universe : From Creation Myths to the Big Bang - book cover picture

This book is the most fascinating exposition of basic physics for people that don't know anything about the subject. The book is full of amazing histories of the life of the most interesting scientists of the whole history and the development of physics. You end up knowing everything about this science without having to comprehend one single mathematical equation. But the good thing is that the book is very interesting. Very much interesting. In fact, I know two persons that have read this book and nowadays are planning to be physicists, just because they got astonished by Gleiser's book and started reading everything they could about physics and cosmology.

The Best Introduction to BPD

Book title: I Hate You, Don't Leave Me : Understanding the Borderline Personality
Rating: 5/5

I Hate You, Don't Leave Me : Understanding the Borderline Personality - book cover picture

Although older, this book remains the best comprehensive introduction to the Borderline Personality Disorder on the market,in my view. Written for all readers, anyone wishing to gain an understanding of this condition would do well to start with this book before moving on to the others. The price is right, and it is a good book to send to persons you would wish to educate about the condition. This book is not necessarily directed primarily at sufferers, and so does not have quite the sensitive air about it that the other good and currently popular book "Lost in the Mirror" has. If you make it through these two books, and can take 400 pages of fairly scholarly reading, the Cauwels book "Imbroglio" is an accessable overview of current thinking on the parts of all the achademic 'Big Guns' in this field. A little dense, but a valuable bookmark as to where thinking is on this subject at this time. Well worth reading also.

The Fifth of March: A Story of the Boston Massacre - book cover picture

This very interesting book about the Adams' house girl Rachel Marsh. It combines intrigue, historical facts, a teenager's point of view and feelings about a very controversal time in America's history and finally a forbidden romance between Rachel and a British soldier. Ann Rinaldi has really out done herself with this book. It has sparked so much interset in me that I am hoping to get as many of her books as I can and read them all!

The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven - book cover picture

A collection of short stories written by a local American Indian, Sherman Alexie that will bring you to a different world. Even though the stories are fiction, they are based on things he's seen and experienced. Some of the stories in this collection are a little boring, or too deep for some to catch. But most of them are worth reading more than once. For example: "A Drug Called Tradition", "Because My Father Always Said He Was they Only Indian Who Saw Jimi Hendrix Play `The Star Spangled Banner' at Woodstock", "All I Wanted to Do Was Dance", "The Trial of Thomas Builds-the-Fire", and many others.

A book to remember!

A Walk to Remember - book cover picture

I had previously read Message in a Bottle, (and seen the movie too) and The Notebook, and absolutely enjoyed both, so I was fairly comfortable in believing that I'd like this one too. I had bought it for a friend at Christmas, and she finally gave it to me to read. I started it on a wednesday morning, and was finished by thursday evening. It takes you on an emotional roller coaster, as do all of Sparks books. But in the end, you feel uplifted, not drained. You believe in goodness, and love. You genuinely like the characters, even the crusty old preacher/dad Hegbert in the end. The story that unfolds between Jamie and Landon, is believable and heart warming, and you'll wish the book were longer to enjoy it even more.
