These books just keep getting better and better. The third book in this wonderful series by J. K. Rowling, shows the best character development to date. The story has so many flips and turns you never know what is coming next. My biggest complaints about the prequels to this book was that they were too predictable and I was always able to figure who the bad guy was ahead of time. Not in this book - it keeps you guessing about things to the very end.

Locked Rooms (Mary Russell Novels (Hardcover)) - book cover picture

Such a fun read, I couldn't wait to pick it up each day. I loved the humor, the inside jokes, the use of Dashiel Hammett as a character, the development of a whole new set of "Irregulars," the eye-opening-sit-on-the-edge-of-your-seat revealing of Mary's past, and the use of San Francisco as almost a character in itself. As a former Bay Area girl, I loved the depth of the picture King "painted" of post-earthquake/post-fire San Francisco: the devastation, the heroism, the depravity, the "tent" neighborhoods, the corruption, the racism, and the reconstruction of everything in fewer than 10 years...

Really, this book was simply a delightful, well-detailed story of well-drawn and developed characters. I surely hope Russell and Holmes stay put awhile in SF, so we might meet the new "Irregulars" again....

Once I had this book in my hands, I did NOT put it down until I had finished. Reading it from cover to cover. And when I finished? I wanted to read it again. I enjoyed the ride that much, and was close to wanting to highlight my favorite parts. Thankfully, I stopped myself.

I found this book to be worth the wait, and up to par with Crusie's other works. It was everything a fun-filled ride should be: light hearted, witty, honest, and romantic. The character of Min was realistically crafted, and a true woman. Cal viewed her the way any woman wants to be seen, and he himself wasn't without flaws.

When I find myself wanting to be part of the core characters lives for longer than the duration of the book, I view that as a good sign. I didn't want the story of Min and Cal (and their friends) to end. Definitely worth reading.

Review of a guy who was forced to read this book

Book title: The Giver (Newbery Medal Book)

The Giver (Newbery Medal Book) - book cover picture

I have just finished reading 'THE GIVER'. And I think, in general, that books with open ends are the best. When I read the first three chapters I wasn't very eager to read this book until its end. But I had to (because it was part of our English lessons). I would have missed reading a fascinating book if I didn't read it. From chapter 7 on, I think, I began to like this book because the community had a so different way of life. There is 'Sameness' allover the community, but one little Eleven has the opportunity to change it, to change his robot-life into a real life worth living. A life full of colors, feelings and nature. With his will he'll achieve his aim. He'll achieve a different life for him and the 'newchild' Gabriel, using the memories he got from The Giver. But HOW he achieves his aim is let by the reader's fantasy. PS: I apologize for my mistakes. I'm just a 16-year-old student from Germany... ;-)

Garth Nix's creativity astounds me!

Keys To The Kingdom, The #3 : Drowned Wednesday (Keys To The Kingdom, The) - book cover picture

I have to be honest, I was disappointed with Grim Tuesday. It was too much like Monday, and for a while I thought Nix had lost his touch. I bought this book not knowing what to expect, and to my utter delight, I found this latest book to be new, inventive, and refreshing, as Arthur begins to realize more, and learns more of the house, the architect, and also of the will. There is a great twist in this book, a deviation from the regular plot of the first two books. It is a plot I had hoped Nix would use, and works well with the overall picture of the series. The plot certainly thickens in this third book. Make sure you pick it out from your bookstore. It's a keeper.

When Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, first sat down to write the adventures of Sherlock Holmes his intention was to mealy build up an income to support his historical wirtings, and he little imagend the sucess the collection would bring. Not only are the stories contanted in this volume entertaning but to those who can read bettween the lines educational. I eagerly recommend thease works to any reader of simple great literature.

Changed My Life

Book title: Satanic Bible
Rating: 5/5

Satanic Bible - book cover picture

There are more holes in Xtianity than a slice of Swiss cheese. I see the Holy Bible as a novel, a way of life, and as a work of literature it stands with a big pile of contradictions and idiocy. Some Xtians would have you believe God is somehow superior to Satan. That is not true, because their whole basis is to keep you out of hell. Xtians are what is wrong with this world. Enough about that now.As for The Satanic Bible, LaVey offers a plethora of logic. People may seek this out for a philosophical approach to life, but it is also a religion whose rites and ceremonies is the inverse of Xtianity. This may seem rather silly to some, like a white supremacist organization but on Xtians. But, LaVey is no bigot. These are deserving targets. LaVey made a fortune out of this, and rightfully so. Slaves of god, you should read this and witness the millenium.

From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler - book cover picture

I think the book, 'Hoot' was outstanding! It was as if the book was alive! The author put suspense in the story every single chapter. The story's plot is so exciting! Imagine a 12 year old boy who just moved to Florida searching for a mysterious running boy he saw one day on the school bus. The adventure never stops. I feel that this book would be more enjoyable for kids through the ages of 9 and 13. I feel thaat way because of the difficult words and the understanding of the story's plot. If you love to read, I know you'll love this book! Enjoy!
