In this insightful and hilarious novel, Bret Easton Ellis show that he has finally reached maturity in his writing style, living up to the promise of earlier works such as Less Than Zero and American Psycho. Glamorama is an amusing and provacative look at a society that has come to revolve around images of Hollywood glamour. This novel provides an interesting commentary on the mixing of art and commerce with a faint aura of paranoia that mimics the bustle and confusion of contemporary life. The fast pace and compusive repetitiveness left me exhausted at the end, but it was worth every minute. A truly wonderful novel.

When I first started reading this book, the last thing I expected to find was a thrilling story of adventurous journeys and courageous acts all done by animals. But, that is what I got. Brian Jacques has created a modern masterpiece with his superb usage in detail, dialogue and wit in this delightful tale of good versus evil. As in all true classics, good finally overcomes evil, and Jacques has left us with a lasting gift that will be cherished each time it is read.

I am a 10th grade student doing a school project on early computers. (ENIAC, The Atanasoff-Berry Computer, the Turing Machine, etc.) I found this book exremely helpful, especially for someone who is interested in the history of computers, but have nowhere to start, I recommend this book. Mr. Mcartney is a very talented writer, with an exellent grasp of history, and offers an unbiased view into the controversial subject of the inventor of the computer.

Ideas and messages spread through human communities in the same way that viruses jump from person to person and group to group. This premise - that social trends saturate populations like contagious epidemics - is an intriguing foundation for a book, and indeed, Malcolm Gladwell's examination of the theme is at times a fascinating read. The book is at its best when applying the epidemic theory to marketing by attempting to identify the key individuals that help transmit a trend, or for that matter, a disease. However, Gladwell never quite succeeds in knitting these observations into a cogent and coherent argument. The book reads like a set of notes - some of which come off as unnecessary digressions. But on the basis of those sections that truly illuminate the cycle of trend dissemination, we from getAbstract recommend this book to marketing, advertising and promotional executives.

I have read this book exactly a year ago and now am considering re-reading it. It is a highly entertaining, absorbing and funny work. At times I had to put it down because I could not concentrate too well, I was laughing too hard. The way he treats the theme of apocalypse and doomsday is interesting and unique. It is clear that the author has an outlook of an open-minded person, not affected by any specific religious belief. The fact that he shows the dark angel as a positive character in the book only strengthens that impression. The book is a must read to anyone who enjoyed Douglas Adams' "Hitchiker's Guide To The Galaxy". This book is just as funny, if not funnier.

Braitenburg could not be more obvious in the subtext of this book. His message is that synthesis is always easier than analysis. Creating something that, on the surface, acts complex is easier than analyzing what, on the surface, looks like a complex system. If we see X, what do we assume are the mechanisms behind what will happen next? The clarity with which the author illustrates the assumptive traps in which we can fall is not only wonderfully insightful, but cautionary. Add this reading to the writings of Braitenberg's contemperary James Gleik ("Chaos") and one can get the AHA! experience that speaks to the richness of simple rules creating bafflingly sophisticated behaviors. "Vehicles" is an amazing book, and in my opinion, one of those that rate up there with those works that not only focus our experience, but are true to it, and take us beyond it. I smack my forehead with my palm, and thank him that he makes it so easy.

The importance of reading these plays!
Rating: 5/5

While Oscar Wilde is not Shakespeare unarguably the best playwright, he is incredibly good and all three plays show it. Salome is a short 'biblical' play, Lady Windermere's Fan is a bit longer and with the exception of the naivete suffered by the Lady of the title incredibly well written as well. However, The Importance of Being Earnest is by far the best play in this collection. Two men whom are trying to get away with pulling a fast one on their girlfriends and two women who think they know whats going on. Throw in a misplaced bag with a baby inside, an overbearing British matriarch, and a Governess with a past and you have a laugh out loud comedy. Who knew the British could be so funny...when written about anyway.

I bought this because I am starting to lead a software team, without any training, I just find myself in charge of 3 people. This book helped me see where I'm getting it right and where there are things I can do better. It's quite short and I read about 3 chapters each day on the train in about 15 minutes. I would have liked a little more about recruitement and also about making presentations because these are things I need immediate help with, what's in the book is OK but I would have liked more e.g. list of questions for interviewees. Overall well worth the money.
