Ender's Game (Ender Quartet) - book cover picture

This book is incredible, I've read and re-read this book several times and still I can't stop. The book show sides of humans very few of us realize. I know that sounds boring, but think of the skill Mr. Card must have to bring that to us. I find that you don't read about Ender as much as learn him, in the novel. This book is without doubt my favorite, even over those of Sir Arthur Clarke. There is little I can say but to read it. If you're human you'll be moved, I was. -daveharding25@hotmail.com

She Flew the Coop : A Novel Concerning Life, Death, Sex and Recipes in Limoges, Louisiana - book cover picture

As a former member of an "intellectual" book club, I was so refreshed by She Flew the Coop that I have since loaned it out 4 times! It is an ingenious combination of "front page" story lines, small town life, humor & YES, even recipies. I'm proud to say that I even tried a few! Coming from the South, I read the entire book with a southern drawl, which at times had me on the floor. I'm more of a smirker than a "laugh-out-loud"er, but I got so ticked at times that I ran up to my husband trying to read a passage from the book and couldn't read through through the tears! Great job, West! I cried and I laughed 'til I cried!

Battlecry Forever! (Ashleigh's Thoroughbred Collection) - book cover picture

This book was excellent. Lesile D'Andrea is at horse auction when she sees a neglected racehorse, Battlecry. She trains him back into racing, after begging her father to give him a chance. He runs several races throughout the summer and wins most of them. This is the first time he has won races. It was so sad that he died after winning the Breeder's Cup Classic. I almost cried and felt really bad for Lesile. Definitely read this book!

Understanding my father (what this book means to me)

Book title: All Quiet on the Western Front

All Quiet on the Western Front - book cover picture

My father, who is my hero and my best friend, was a drafted infantryman on the demilitarized zone (I don't quite know why they call it that) in Vietnam in 1969 and 1970. After reading this book, I believe that he should have a chestful of Purple Hearts for what he experienced. If a person you love has experienced combat, you will be doing them a favor by reading this book. Our Vietnam vets also are a generation of men who, even though they may have escaped its shells, were destroyed by the war, as Remarque's dedication so eloquently states. What I learned from this book is that there is no such thing as an unwounded soldier. I wept as I read this book, and I am grateful that my generation has not had to experience a war.

Finally, a modern-day story with theology

Book title: Franny and Zooey

Franny and Zooey - book cover picture

This book brought in everything I've ever hoped for. There were ties of philosophy and theology with a modern-day story that it feel so rich and vibrant. To read this, I think you have to be prepared to not know what the plot is going to be. That's the only problem. If you really wanted to, you could read the last 14 pages and have a good grasp of what the entire book is about. However, i do not suggest doing that.Franny is the typical teenager looking for meaning in her life.Zooey is the typical twenty year-old who wants something in his life that he can be proud of.Both love each other, but both are going no where. It's the type of book where you just want to keep reading and i absolutely love it.

Stupendous...

Book title: Stargirl

Stargirl - book cover picture

It's rather difficult and rare of me to get ahold of a good book nowadays. At first, the title threw me off. I saw it in the book stores for a while the first time it came out and I was tempted to get it. Finally, a few years after I stumbled across it in the library I decided to just pick it up this week.

It's one of the most amazing books I've ever read.

Stargirl is out of the ordinary. She's strange in an amusing way but loveable for her innocence at the same time. I laughed, I blinked in shock, and also felt the temptation to cry as the book came to its end. I finished it in a total of six hours. The text was rather large, but the plot and flow of words makes the size oblivious.

I recommend this book to anyone of any age at any time. Whether it be out of boredom on a rainy day or when one is in a creative rut. This book has given me inspiration and it will be in my pile of treasured books forever.

This book is the best that Lurlene McDaniel has written!!!!

Don't Die, My Love - book cover picture

This was the first book that I've read by Lurlene McDaniel, and I have read several others since. This book was really sad and I cried throughout most of the book. It reminded me of how sad and tragic these illnesses are. I know. I have lost two very special friends to cancer and I miss them dearly. Lurlene McDaniel's books show a true portrayal of how these illnesses affect the patient's life as well as those who love them. Keep up the good work Lurlene McDaniel

Scarlett O'Hara Wannabee

Gone With the Wind/Scarlett/Boxed Set - book cover picture

I loved this book! It was written in a descriptive language, but it was a level that everyone could understand. Maybe that's why people love the story. There is always one character (at least) that you can identify with. Just a warning, don't read it and expect to know all about the Civil War. It will talk about it, but it concentrats (spelling, sorry) more on Rhett and Scarlett than the war. Some say that it was racist. Slavery was wrong, there is no doubt about that, but there were always different kinds of masters. The masters in GWTW were obviously kind ones. This presents the way the South saw the war, which was very VERY hard on them. Read it and do yourself a favor. Just a suggestion, though, watch the movie first (which is also excellent) and then read the book so you won't be dissappointed with the differences.
