Nineteen Eighty-Four (Penguin Twentieth Century Classics S.) - book cover picture

I read this amazing book by George Orwell while I was ten (that's right, ten) for fun. I enjoyed it as much as anyone else if not more. George Orwell has an amazing talent that only so many writers posess. He expresses, very well, the things of which he predicted about the future. He wrote many wonderful books: Down and Out, in Paris and London, 1984, and lots more! George Orwell has done an amazing job in telling what the world looked like it was coming to in 1948 (when he wrote the book).

Blindsighted - book cover picture

Ms. Slaughter has captured the essence of the small southern town in her first book, "Blindsighter". I was quite impressed; well developed and interesting characters, scary and intriguing plot and a really horrible bad guy. I like her style and really got hooked on the story which I finished in a couple of days. It is one of those that is very difficult to put down. It is a bit graphic at times, but so is life. I look forward to reading the rest of her books.

The History of the Siege of Lisbon - book cover picture

This was my first Saramago book. I read it in 2000, and I am still amazed by it. once you get pass the first few pages you'll get a feeling for the style of the book and you'll start enjoying it.

The story reminded me of something obvious about history: history, as we know it, is written by the winners. Losers do not have much to say when looking back to recollect what happened. The winner's biases are all over history books and the loser's perspective is lost in the way. The book is much more that that, there is a love story in the background, and there are beautiful descriptions of the city of Lisbon.

Living on Nothing Atoll (Aloha Cove) - book cover picture

I thought this book was great, and my mom did also! I told her to read it after I was done, and after she did she said she was glad she did. She said it's good for discussions about God, His plan for our lives, and how we are supposed to live for Him. I liked Cass the best since she's the most like me, but the other characters are great too. What I liked best was that they're just regular kids who are trying to be Christians. They're not perfect and they certainly wouldn't say they're perfect, but they try. My mom likes the mom in the book and says she has good sense!

Stranger in a Strange Land - book cover picture

From the ludicrous statement of "A Martian named Smith," spoken out of hand in an article about science fiction, Robert Heinlein weaved a tale about the consequences of encountering alien life - and coming home. Valentine Michael Smith, born of woman, but raised by Martians, not only created panic, hysteria, and a new way of life in his fictional world, but in our own, by shattering the barriers of human thought on matters of life, love, and religion. As the Martian - raised human explored the alien world called Earth in search for the meaning of life, he called on us to examine our values. When Robert Heinlein died in 1988, he took one of the most inciteful, entertaining minds with him. May the seeds he planted in his stories, like STRANGER, continue to bloom in the millenia ahead

The South Beach Diet : The Delicious, Doctor-Designed, Foolproof Plan for Fast and Healthy Weight Loss - book cover picture

I love this diet. I lost weight and established a healthier way of eating. For this to work, you have to commit to planning your meals every day. You can not wing it because you'll finid yourself very hungry without anything that you should eat.
Be creative with the diet and you'll see that this is a healthy way to eat that doesn't make you feel like you're on a diet.
My husband and I did this together and we have recommended it to everyone we know.

Hey all L.J. Smith fans!!! I gotta tell you this book was great, as all of her other books too! Keller and the rest of her gang are great characters. Of course you also get to know about another wild power with blue fire, and there is a soulmate couple in the book too! All in all it was great! I've read all of her books(except Heart of Valor, Night of Solstice, and the one's I'm about to list) but sadly can't get ahold of Strange Fate, or the 2nd and 3rd books in the Secret Circle series.(The Captive and The Power) If anyone has any helpful information on these, wants to chat, or wants any other reviews, e-mail me.

Hatchet - book cover picture

The book I read was Hatchet. It was written by Gary Paulsen. The author did a great job with this book. In the beginning the boy named Brian Robeson is the sole survivor in a bush plane crash on his way to visit his dad. This is the first time he has had visitation rights to his dad since his parents split. Robeson takes the hatchet and the supllies off of the plane and is on his own in a stranded island to survive. He etches the amount of days in wood so he can tell how long he has been there. As the great story goes on the suspense builds and Robeson has many things happen to him. I recommend this book to anyone that is interested in adventure story.. any ages. In addition I would like to add this is my favorite book I have read. Sincerely, Bert and Ernie

Book title: SQL Pocket Guide

SQL Pocket Guide - book cover picture

This book has been a lifesaver on many occasions. It gives you a syntax comparison between the major database vendors, and really, it would save you what can possibly be many hours of searching for an equivalent function when using a database you are not familiar with.

The content page is nicely grouped by SQL functionality; e.g. Literals, Joining Tables, Datatype Conversion etc. It was quite easy for me to look for the information I wanted.

It's also good for users who are learning databases in general; it gives quite a good overview of SQL functionalities.

Even if you're not working with multiple databases from multiple vendors, it makes a great SQL reference book.
